Morgenstern
Since Michelle needs a moment to calm down (and probably the others, as well), you work on making her a new helmet in the red.

Once that's done, and everyone's caught their breath a bit, you start to proceed--carefully maneuvering around the acid spots on the floor, and the one big flaming spider.

Caius goes first, reaching for the door handle--

and immediately recoils upon touching it.

"Son of a bitch!," Caius yells, shaking his hand before grabbing at it with the other. "Shit's electrified."

"How bad is it?," Michelle asks.

"I mean, I'm still alive," Caius replies. "S'pretty fucked up thing to do, though."

"Take it as a warning," Fuse remarks with a dry smile. "The warehouse we pulled you out of had electric doors, but they killed a dude on contact. Like, straight up, insta-dead. This is still the first floor. ...Or floor zero, I guess. They might not be screwing around next time."

Caius sighs, shaking his hand out again.

Why's the door electrified? is it like part of the level, or have we not killed all of the spider-heads yet? Also, maybe we could make like a bone glove or something to get around that? (I don't actually know if bone is conductive or not...)
chaosblitz 6th May 2018, 7:25 PM edit delete reply
okay, so I just did a quick google search and bone is *probably* not conductive as long as it's dry. That said, if anyone has a better alternative to bone I am all ears.

Dry leather is pretty nonconductive

Any wet salty things however, different story.

Being electrically hot without a ground makes a harmless not-a-circuit. Ever wonder how birds safely roost on high voltage power lines?

Mental note:
EVERY time we need to open a door in hostile territory, First test it with a meat-ball. If nothing happens, we can proceed, cautiously, but proceed. If we accidentally prepare dinner doing it, then we need to use bone-gauntlets to open it XD.

Wait, how much electricity-resistant are human bones?
Blue_Elite 6th May 2018, 7:39 PM edit delete reply
Huh... well now you've got me curious: CAN we make edible and tasty meat from the red? Are we basically a 5+ level Cleric and can make unlimited food for free?

Obviously right now is a bad time to explore that but food for thought for later.

I want to see that as EMERGENCY rations. The Red is part of us. Even if we don't really take care of the things we make in it, it is still part of us. So, eating meat made in the Red is LITERALLY eating Jane.
If we don't have other choice, they can be emergency rations. But I REALLY doubt that our grupo would be happy resorting to cannibalism XD.

I simply mentioned it as the dinner as a joke XD.

Double check to make sure all head spiders are dead. I know that we have bone armor plating on our legs but if someone is wearing shoes with a rubber sole, we could probably use that on the door handle. (It looks like a lever handle from here.)
chaosblitz 6th May 2018, 7:26 PM edit delete reply
oh, that's a much better idea than bone gloves! let's do that.

"Since salts don't conduct in their solid state due to lack of electrons which can flow freely, bones do not conduct. Regardless, I wouldn't touch any bones that are in contact with a supply of electricity."

-The first result that came up in google

So, we could try and make a quick little bone-door opener, or something. That would be neat. Gauntlets require too much motion, all we need is something that isolates the handle from the hand.

Make a meat glove for the door, then beat the hell out of the spiders.

Then we can move on.

Also Jane is going to need a weapon besides the bloodgun, we could make a bone sword.

I had a feeling the door would be trapped... Make a bone or something to turn the handle with. And proceed with caution and the expectation of being attacked.

Hmm...bones are at least somewhat conductive (and strangely, can generate electricity when compressed). Maybe make an insulating/blubbery layer?

Examine the ceiling, to see if there's anything up there.
Like more spider heads.
Also, rubber comes from plants, plants are biological... Even if bones don't have good electrical resistance, maybe we can make gloves that are somewhat rubber-like?

Gotta applaud you Morgenstern. The warning was specifically that hubris would take us down and we all pretty much dropped our guard. Bravo.

Meat golems going forward (now that we know there ARE traps). If we need an in-universe way of knowing how to make something non-conducting to open that door, contact Dr. Finch to ask him and make it from the red.

P.S. Really, really glad we're doing armour now.

EDIT: It says something that multiple giant spiders with human heads caused us to DROP our guard. We've been through a lot.

EDIT x2: We need to trade up a bunch of safety gloves for Caius. Give him nigh-invulnerable gloves.
Also we totally need to get him a shield as well - probably 2-3 traded up riot shields (or cobble up a bunch of fence-style bone shields and trade those).

Good idea, we simply need to ask Finch about a good material we can create in our Red for this XD.

And car hoods with handles on them to Look like shields!

Kick the door down.

This idea might be a little out there, but can we pin some of the spiders over the door? Let the acid blood eat through and we can keep our distance in case there is something nasty behind it.
Guest 6th May 2018, 9:23 PM edit delete reply
If we can fill the keyhole/gap with non-conductive red material, we can keep pumping it in until the pressure bursts it open?
Crestlinger 6th May 2018, 9:38 PM edit delete reply
Hehe, deploy the acid bombs. Open the door (safely with rubberized shoes, blood ball, bone gloves or some non conductive combination thereof) and try to kick a corpse through; good for trap checks And to see if dead stuff is Allowed to go to another level or if it is teleported out.
