You suggest that Caius trying calling from outside Bunker A--see what kind of power that thing has.

Caius steps outside. Dr. Finch's phone rings. He answers it to confirm to Caius that it works.

While Caius heads to Mars, you take a... small peek inside his brain. It seems like the "main" wire from the device has given way to hundreds of infinitely thinner wires, which have dug through his ear canal and found their way into the folds of his brain.

Dr. Finch's phone rings. He answers it, and confirms to Caius that the call has worked. ...From Mars. Somehow.

You ask Caius if he can take the device out. Hopefully by just... willing it out, rather than pulling. Pulling would be really bad.

It takes a few seconds...

but all of the wires suddenly recede from Caius's brain.

"It feels worse goin' out than it does goin' in," Caius remarks, "but yeah, you can kinda just... want it to leave, and it does."

While he makes his way back to the bunker, you bring up two things: one, Michelle mentioned the ghost gun warming up in Ilworth. The ghosts there might be worth conjuring to see if they have anything of note to say.

"Might be somethin' to hit up tomorrow," Michelle says. "I ain't scared o' ghosts, but..."

Fuse smiles. "Doing a seance in an abandoned village in the dark, with no power, is pretty messed up yeah."

Two, you still need to see what happens if Fuse enters the error room. ...Maybe with Geoangular Control.

"We could probably try it without the book first," Fuse suggests. "I'm still not sure what'll happen, since I'm supposed to have weird... extra... secret mutations, I guess. I dunno if it's that or it's just me being me, but I... I dunno. I get kind of an ominous feeling about that room. I mean, it won't stop me from doing it, I just got a bad feeling about it."

Caius returns, the device in his hand. "I dunno what cleanin' this thing looks like, so uhhh... I ain't gonna recommend anybody else use this one."

We should probably ask Fuse if he hates himself in a clone-sort-of-way. Like, we can assume all the not!Janes we've come across have been nice and helpful because we would be nice and helpful if we were doomed and were approached by another notDoomed!Jane needing help.
If he's concerned that a not!Fuse would try to kill him because he'd try to kill another version of himself, maybe we should look into fire-proofing him before he enters the Error room (or at least make sure he's prepared to immediately put out flames that not!Fuse might try to burn him with).

We could go in with him the first time to make It a bit safer, maybe.

Ye Gods, now I'm stuck wondering what alien horror we will receive from trading surplus adult novelties

living dildo?

Probably be a frivolous use of the ritual, though y'know someone somewhere in the universe tried it at least once.
Hambone 3rd May 2018, 1:00 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, not suggesting we try it, just thinking out loud. (Itotallywould)

... what's even the number for that nanotech phone? Check the other phones for missed calls. Checking if it can recieve incoming transplanetary calls are pretty important.

So it goes through the whole brain and not just speech and hearing? That's...

... interesting.

I wonder what would happen if he hit an old modem line, could he browse the internet in his head? Could he download instructional videos into his head from youtube? He should totally try. It'd be cool for Caius to go all "I know kung fu".

By the time Caius gets through one instructional video our adventure would be over with. Plus most of what he'd learn would be, "Buffering," and, "There was an error, please refresh and try again."

@Blue_Elite... you're right, dial-up is slooooowww....

... but what if he called a bunch of dial-up numbers all at once and load-balanced across them?

... or, these were cellphones that were traded up, maybe he has data connection already? WTF am I doing suggesting calling dial-up? O_o
Blue_Elite 3rd May 2018, 3:32 PM edit delete reply
It's okay Lil Joshu, those of us that lived through that era still bear the scars.

When it's quiet and I close my eyes, I can still hear the dial-up screeching. Followed by AOL's, "Welcome," and, "You've got mail."
Those were dark times indeed.

Doesn't Caius already know kung-fu ? He's the melee guy contrasted to Michelle's better firearm abilities.
T41 3rd May 2018, 1:17 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, unless someone else needs it, Caius should hold onto this one.

As for the ?computer, try plugging the USB with the Rhetoric Delta program into it or even try speaking directly to it. Maybe it has some sort of language recognition function and it'll adjust it's interface to our language after receiving some input. If not, we'll have wasted a few minutes at most.

Actually, we precisely got the computer just to run programs. As long as Fuse can code on our original computer and just use the new computer's processing power, that's all we really need anyway.

Some experiment we've gotta do in the future is have 2 different people try trading up the exact same thing and see if we get a different result. If the Tradesmen tailor each transaction to the needs of a specific customer, that'll be a consideration for future trades. For example, will Michelle or... Fuse performing the Jane-golem ritual result in a Mini-Michelle (With Kung-Fu action grip) or Mini-Fuse (With built-in lighter action)?
Hambone 3rd May 2018, 9:11 AM edit delete reply
Brilliant idea!
Swagner 3rd May 2018, 4:46 PM edit delete reply
Except programs aren't OS(or language)-agnostic. If the computer can't be made to acknowledge an earthly OS, it probably can't run programs designed for one, either.

I like the idea of testing with different "casters", though.
Madd 3rd May 2018, 10:20 AM edit delete reply
Have Fuse look for language settings on the new computer, if the UI is designed right it shouldn't take too long to find it without understanding the text.
Swagner 3rd May 2018, 2:44 PM edit delete reply
I have the sneaking suspicion English won't be on the list, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

-Let Fuse work with the computer. We need to figure that out XD.
-Create a bunch of golems shapped like big cats, and trade them. I know everyone wants to try this XD.
-Ask the Tradesmen about how to wash the Brainphone, how to put the Alien Computer in English, if this Brainphone is going to have negative consequences in Caius, and if it is possible to make Finch take off his lab coat!.
-Create a bunch of gloms like the ones we traded for the Mini-Jane, and let Fuse to the Ritual this time. I want to see what he is going to get XD.
Allwarden47 3rd May 2018, 1:18 PM edit delete reply
I vote we give phoneworm to Fuse. It could help him interface with the computer and he’ll get the best use out of it anyway
Reiko Lupus 3rd May 2018, 1:37 PM edit delete reply
But First we need to ask the Tradesmen how to wash it of the... Fluids and other things that were in Caius brain XD.

I thought we planned to get multiple phone upgrades?

At this point it might be a little hard to convince anyone to use them.
