Morgenstern
You give everyone the heads up that you're going to be spending some time with Tesla and Faraday. You do check on their progress once in a while, though.

"Our new computer breathes, and honestly scares the hell out of me," Fuse says during one such check up. "The OS looks like it was written in an asylum, and everything's in alien. ...But it has compatible ports somehow, so I might still figure it out."

Michelle eventually finishes trading up a bunch of burner phones... and ends up with some incredibly small device. It fits in the palm of her hand, and has no visible buttons--just a small cord.

Michelle shrugs. "I got no idea what the tradesmen were goin' for on this one."

For the most part, you spend time just hanging out with Tesla and Faraday, and otherwise trying to relax. You tell them about the way the world's changed while they were away, and they tell you what being a ghost was like before Zone Fifty picked them up. Their memories of being alive before that are... incomplete. Tesla barely remembers anything at all before she was a ghost, and Faraday remembers living in her (their?) house, but not much more.

You stay with the girls until the late evening.

Try messing with that cord, see if it stretches, see if it makes any sound. Im thinking were going to need a second one for it to be useful

Or, it's a phone patch - stick it on your head and you can telepath-talk to any phone ever... gotta test it.

The computer looks like Elvis.

Now we need a whole closet of vastly different clothes and costumes with appropriate hats and masks so we can trade that to see what happens.

That's the Elvis clone that got himself lost in the Error room...

Blood the computer!
Twyll 2nd May 2018, 3:33 PM edit delete reply
This might actually be one of the best ways to figure out how it works, yeah. If we can do it without damaging its ability to work, of course.

We'll probably need to sync both Finch and Fuse a little bit to figure it out, too.

Liquid cooling !
Johnny Potato 2nd May 2018, 3:52 PM edit delete reply
That might work.

Remember that in order to operate a computer by blooding it we first have to understand how it works. If Fuse and/or Dr. Finch (or anyone else for that matter) can't understand the operating language, we'll just be lost in a maze.

Also it's possible we'll damage the computer to the point of uselessness if we open it up/shove a needle in it without any idea how it works and what is vital.

If someone's not busy (Caius and/or Michelle, maybe?) can we send them to Ilworth with the ghost gun to locate the two spots where it heated up there and perform the ghost strengthening ritual to see what those ghosts have to say?

And have Fuse look at the cord on the phone device. Maybe it's a port?

Or an earpiece...

Or it is an ear slug or babblefish

I guess we should try plugging in our strange phone thing to the computer? What's actually on the end of the cord? Do we need to plug it into someone's, like, ear canal or something for it to work?

Haha, maybe see if Fuse can get a terrestrial OS to boot from a stick on the eldritch computer.

Seeing as how it seems to be a bio computer that probably won't work.

It's got standard ports though. I still doubt it would work, but who knows? If it's got usb, it might accept "legacy" cpu instructions, too.

Drivers will be a pain, regardless.
Blue_Elite 2nd May 2018, 4:14 PM edit delete reply
If you think the drivers will be bad, just think of the updates. That's a new computer. We'll probably have to wait 4 hours while it updates to Vexxarr Version 9.α.¿╜⌐

We can simply ask the Tradesmen how our new toys work. I don't think the Price can be high. In the end, is simply letting us know how two things that we already possess Works. Even if we don't ask, we are going to know it in some days max XD.
Blue_Elite 2nd May 2018, 4:28 PM edit delete reply
So future note: Be careful just how much we trade. If we get things that are too advanced back, we'll be only slightly better off than we were. Example: The Splorginator 9000, while immensely powerful, was intended for the removal of mountains and cities; not individuals.

So I guess dinner time. How about salmon salad.
We can say goodbye to the ghost girls for now. Then have a chat with our Red, talk with Dr. Finch about using the Odin Experiment on us, or try and go to bed early so we can be at our peak tomorrow (either for more ghostly shenanigans or tackling the 1st Floor of Bunker X).

EDIT: Fuse should check to see if he can change the language setting. The alien language is probably the default.
EDIT x2: Michelle should go outside and try to use the device to dial her own phone. Maybe it's voice-operated or intent-operated.

Is that sushi or sandwiches?
AE-86 2nd May 2018, 4:30 PM edit delete reply
Simple all we have to di is get some translator programs and trade them up for a program capable of translateing it.

...You understand that your idea opened a giant gate of endless possibilities? XD.
Trading Computer Programs... I can't even start to imagine the potential of this XD.
Terrac 2nd May 2018, 6:03 PM edit delete reply
Throw in a bunch of B-rated computer games. We might get an awesome alien game to play!!!

I wonder if we can simply *ask* the tradesmen what the deal is with the stuff we got next time we speak with them? Might be the easiest way to figure out, well, "WTF?" x3
