You check if the colorful orbs along the bottom of the shelves are buttons.

They are not.

Remembering how the color of the books changed (?) when you needed directions, you verbally comment on how handy a ladder would be. ...Nothing happens. You then ask for a ladder. ...No luck. A staircase? ...Nothing.

You try to think your way up there. Maybe if up there is just where you intend to be, you'll... suddenly be there.

It doesn't work.

Whatever's helping you seems fairly limited in how much help it can actually provide, unfortunately.

"Perhaps we should seek out one of these librarians and ask for a step ladder," Dr. Finch suggests, slightly joking... but slightly not, because he's honestly unsure if that's the answer or not. "I'm curious about the checkout process and return policy, as well. I can't imagine that they're too similar to those in our libraries."

"Well," Caius says, "while you dorks worry about that, I'm gonna make sure that ain't tha book right there." He points vaguely toward the tip of the arrow... and begins to scale the shelves.

"Caius, I'm not certain that's a good..." Finch begins to protest, but Caius is a surprisingly fast climber, and is already halfway up the arrow. "...Idea," finishes Dr. Finch.

You consider what Dr. Finch said--that maybe you just need to find a librarian. You look around, and see... what feels like miles and miles of books, but no one else.

You speak out, asking for a librarian.

Nothing.

You're not really sure how to find a librarian, or how to get one's attention... aside from messing with the books.

"This ain't tha book," Caius says down to you all, having reached the tip of the arrow. "It's A Biography of Insects. Plus, we got more arrows above this one."

"Be sure you aren't touching any books!," Dr. Finch shouts up at Caius.

"Yeah, yeah, I got this," Caius replies. "Climbin's a little weird 'cuz stuff don't feel right, but there's plenty o' space on the shelf to get a grip on."

Mmm. Don't suppose we have some sort of information we could offer to the library in case of, ah.
Accidents?
Enough to cover two or three books, hopefully.

Oh, and request Caius comes down before he gets tired. Bookshelf goes up quite a ways, don't want to take chances here.

Keep climbing, I guess? One person should try to find some kind of librarian or rule sheet or something.

This is sketch. Granted, the Librarians might just make it so there always was a ladder if Caius has trouble climbing, or make the floor elastic or something.

The problem is that this feels like Dnd and we're going to roll a one, to the great distress of Caius.

Why are all the books blue, anyway

well, not ALL of the books. Some of them are red now. But you're right, it is kind of a weird color choice. Let's just get the book, get out, and question all the weirdness of this later.

Check out our reflections and look at the books we can see while we wait. Don't actually take them off the shelves, just look at more titles. Try to take note if there's any significant difference between the various shades of colors that the books are.
Poke one of the books.

Poking a book would be a good way to upset a librarian.

Let's read the shirt when we're OUT OF THE FREAKY "LIBRARY".

Thirded; I'm curious to see what reading text is like in here, if our voices come out as text. And the Librarians probably won't object to us reading a text we brought in ourselves

So, it's not unfriendly, does its best to interface with humans, but can't actually provide an easy access to whichever book is asking for us.

Feels like another kind of alien lifeform designed this place. Earth seems pretty crowded with them...
