You meticulously search the surface of the metal box, looking for something out of place--a mechanism, maybe, or something that can slide. You rattle the box a bit, and listen closely for any sounds from within.

...Nothing. You can't even hear the contents of the box moving around.

"Perhaps it requires a key...?," Dr. Finch speculates. "It could have a magnetic locking system."

"It might not have been designed to be opened," says Elizabeth.

There's definitely ways to find out what's in it--the box is heavy, but it's not that heavy. Unless the material it's made of is very particular, it shouldn't block X-rays. There's plenty of ways to get into it, as well... though, with how securely it's sealed, you think you might want to figure out what's inside before you open it.

It's a box of empty space, isn't it?

maybe it's a box of literal empty space. Like, they figured out how to box up a black hole. I doubt it though, it probably either takes up the entire box or the box is just sound proof.

Black holes aren't empty space they're a lot of mass in one place.

Does Finch have any equipment that might be able to help us determine what's in the box? Do we have access to an X-ray machine? We could at least weigh it, although it'll be hard to determine how much of the weight is the box and how much is the contents.

EDIT: On second thought, perhaps bombarding the thing with high-energy death rays is a bad idea. Unless we have some kind of super-fancy minimally intrusive (and minimally dangerous to various materials and creatures) futuristic scanning tech, maybe we should just wait until we've looked more into magic-- after all, we may find some sort of scrying or divination magic that could help us.

i think we should leave the box for now. to my knowledge, we don't currently have access to an x-ray machine. if tesla's canister has been moved into ghost base, maybe we can go let her out? try to talk to her?

I agree with this. Check the door on the storage unit to make sure it’s secure, then, let’s go.

I think we should finish checking out the boxes in here first, just to make sure nothings going to blow up later. We should at least check out that huge box in the back, I'm super curious about it. (also maybe run some tests on that "cactus" as soon as we're done here. I'm suspicious of it.)

Alright, yeah let’s check the other boxes. Sorry thought we were done with all of them.
Mochi 4th Apr 2018, 4:32 PM edit delete reply
we've checked all the boxes.

What ways do we currently have to try to see what's inside the box? What additional ways can we get access to?
pkrankow 4th Apr 2018, 3:32 PM edit delete reply
Pick up a dye and developer kit for fault and crack detection. (Magnaflux) and come back to this later. It should be on the shelf and under $50 at any industrial store, like cranes, lifts, and the occasional hot rod car or bike. (It is basically special fancy spray paint.)

OTOH a sealed box that may be welded shut probably has a reason to be sealed.

Follow up on Telsa, Faraday, and Edison. Ok, maybe on Edison. Wait till after talking to Telsa and hopefully Faraday.

Yeah, lets talk to Tesla and see if we can get info on condensing Faraday. Oh, and have Finch study the cactus and the gelatinous cube while we're at it.

Considering some of the stuff we've seen so far, we might want to find documentation regarding this box so as to avoid "setting it off". For all we know, it's literally Strodingers Cat, and X-rays or any other radiation will kill it, causing a paradox that we're not prepared for.

OMG, just thought of it. Suggest to Finch that we might find said Cat in here somewhere, his reaction would be priceless!
