Michelle comes in to pick up the canister.

You take the money out of the box and thumb through it. It looks like legitimate currency, all from the last handful of years or so.

As an experiment, you shut the box, close the clasps... and wait a moment. You re-open the box.

Inside is a one dollar bill. ...You think. That's what it says, but it looks a bit strange.

Checking the date, this dollar was printed 150 years from now.

You explain this to everyone.

"So we got a box that prints money?," Michelle asks.

"...But money that isn't legal tender yet, assuming it's real at all," concludes Dr. Finch. "It would be hard to convince a cashier that we have genuine future-dollars. The money that was sitting in the box prior must have filled the box a long time ago... possibly confirming that the box does have a maximum capacity. And, since it only gave us one dollar this time, that means the money takes time to generate."

Michelle has a small chuckle. "Could be a good way to leave somethin' for your grandkids, if y'bother to empty it out every day."

It may be worth monitoring the money box if only because if there comes a point where it stops generating money, that could indicate a problem downstream that we need to start anticipating.

Instead of wasting time monitoring money from 150 years in the future, I think it would be a better idea to try to discover how it works and if it can be applied on something else aside from money.

Inspect the box with moisture on it next. Make sure nothing dangerous is leaking.

That sounds reasonable to me.

Take the bill out, then go check it again after we're done messing around with other stuff to see if it's always the same date. Just for curiosity's sake.

Um... Which of the other boxes looks the least secure? The one next to the money box or the one on top of the gray box? Open that next.
EDIT: I... guess the point of "check the leaky box to make sure it's not leaking something we'll regret" makes sense.

Lets open the one on the grey box next.
