Slowly, Fuse and Dr. Finch begin to print parts of an arm. After giving Elizabeth an extensive painkiller effect, you begin to assemble the arm--piece by piece, connecting bone, cartilage, muscle fiber, veins, nerves... piece by piece, adding the arm to her body.

The entire process, from programming the bioprinter to successfully printing the pieces, to actually putting it together on Elizabeth takes most of the day.

Between this and the list of minor changes you've been making, you feel very tired, mentally, by the time you're done.

However, the arm works. Elizabeth bends it, moves the fingers, and demonstrates full motor function. There's a very slight difference between it and the other arm, mostly owing to the quality of your bioprinter... but at a casual glance, it's perfect.

You give her a hug. She still doesn't hug you back.

"Not gonna lie," Fuse says, "I'm amazed that worked."

"It was your plan!," replies Dr. Finch. "You came up with it."

"Yeah, but--" Fuse shrugs. "I figured we'd screw it up, or burn out the bioprinter or something."

Dr. Finch nods, looking a little worn out himself. "To be fair, we do have a pile of incorrect fingers and I have no clue what to do with them."

Fuse gives a grim, almost chuckle, and half a smile. "Fingers are hard, man."

Could animate a bundle of spider homunculi later.
Or recycle the fingers.

Maybe don't go with a spider theme.
crawlers 1st Apr 2018, 9:08 AM edit delete reply
I approve of this spider theme. Proceed :)

No, Michelle hates spiders, do something else.

Take a look at that biopaste tube. We're running low. Taking that and Thale's plan to taint biopaste into account, I don't suppose we could get a shipment from out of the city could we? Have it brought along with the other warehouse stuff we stole from one of the truck locations (or just see if they sell medical supplies in Southden).

Otherwise check on the others (including Jury, I believe she's supposed to be in the city by now if this took most of the day).
Also dinner plans. Steak and veggies sound good?

Also just to throw it out there: Thale has pretty much become Giygas. What an almighty idiot.

Interesting parallel. That would make Carpenter the mech-riding, crazy opportunistic Porky.

Congratulate Finch and Fuse on getting the arm to work.
Ask Elizabeth if she has a preference on which ailment to correct next
Ask Elizabeth would like a cleantex effect to help her remember the Thale weakness should couldn't quite put together.
See if Thale was having any difficulty with his bioprinter plan, or something exploitable he was trying to defend in it.
Also probe for the names of compromised federal agents. I mentioned this before, but Jury said she trusted her superiors and I think Macland said Thale had no influence outside of the city, but I would still love some reassurance that Jury wasn't reprogrammed while she was out of town.

Draw some blood and stockpile it. Something easy Jane can do if she needs to rest. (Label the container "THE BLOOD")
Booby trap the fallback position. Place a blood vial under the doormat, or perched over the door. Jane can check for the integrity of each one so that they can be sure the Ilworth house or the other bunkers haven't been infiltrated.
Save those extra fingers, blood them and Jane can use them for practice manipulating material, instead of practicing on her friends.
This isn't a thing they'll get to today I imagine, but they need scouts in Ilworth and Southden. Pack some bait for various animals then have fun feeding them and maybe blooding some.

Posting scouts and booby traps won't help us if Thale has access to other doors. We need an additional computer hooked up to the one Fuse is using to Brute force door codes. If Thale's hckers get a hold of a door scanner, then with their much more powerful coputers it won't take them long o gain access to every bunker. We need to make sure there are no more bunker doors in that warehouse. Just one door, and Thale will have an armed raid party storming every bunker and killing everyone on sight. Not to mention the potential catastrophe if he gets hold of Lasker. or the Mars Bunker.

idea for red spatial distance: make something noticeable in the red, walk a few feet, go back and see if you can see what you made in the red and how far it is. If we can calculate feet to the distance in the red that might help a bit i think. :)

We still haven't asked Red if she can help Jane when she's out there. Maybe she can add some hints or a red-rope or something else to follow. Or maybe Jane can work on her senses - human stuff works in our dimension, maybe different organs would help see differently inside the red.

Blood those fingers fully, sharpen the nails to the ridiculous then bag them up in a soaked bandage, five digits to a person at least, having everyone have blood darts will be quite handy, remote or otherwise. Case in point with Fuse's recent religious encounter.

Judging by the rate and severity of our parties injuries, and the amount of wasted, useless body parts that this exercise generated, we will need to be looking into getting a supply of biopaste very soon. Especially considering Thale's plans involving bioposte, we may want to start stock piling as many canisters of untainted biopaste as we can find fairly soon.

.... what if... we could have our red fold into biopaste? We've got an entire infinite dimension of the stuff apparently, and it learns and adapts.

I still say we take the other door, send it into the red, and then toss some biopaste into the red so the red can learn to imitate it, then red pops out as better biopaste.

I was thinking the same thing. Of course, if we do this its probable wed end up blooding anyone we used the printer to heal, but considering the number of immunities it gives that might be a good thing.
pkrankow 1st Apr 2018, 10:22 AM edit delete reply
Good idea. Get fresh good biopaste while we can.
Leafia_Barrett 1st Apr 2018, 7:37 AM edit delete reply
We can try blooding the fingers and rendering them back into biopaste once we've rested up - might be good practice for nonstandard material conversion. If that fails, converting them into a meat golem (or a ball of meat to practice with, same thing) is an option too. For now, dinner - steak and veggies sounds like a solid idea.
