You ask Dr. Finch if he knows anything about the director of Zone Fifty.

"Oddly, no," he replies. "Our antics have driven me to do a good deal of research on Zone Fifty, but the director himself is still a mystery. From what I could gather, he rarely entered the research bunkers personally. Even Jury suspected that she may have had data on the director wiped from her drives--whoever he was, he was terribly mysterious."

Caius wanders into the room. "No luck on my end. You?"

Dr. Finch shakes his head. "There's something hidden in this facility, possibly the documents we're seeking. No hint as to where, though."

"Well," Caius says, "let's get crackin' then."

While Dr. Finch and Caius begin to search the room, you ask Fuse about Geoangular Control, and where it's located. You remember him mentioning a library--how close is it to Ilworth?

"Oh, the library was in--" Fuse stops. He squints. "...Cleantex me."

You give Fuse an imitation cleantex effect.

He stares at the floor for a moment, digging into his memories... and then shakes his head, turning back to the computer.

"No. Bullshit. Give me a second."

He types away at the keyboard, searching for something, and then--

Fuse turns back to you and starts to say something, but then instead begins to pace. He's visibly agitated.

"We're being messed with. I'M being messed with. My memory of where I learned about the book is weird, for starters--but get this. The library? The library that book's in? It's in Southden. Twenty minute drive from Ilworth. What are the odds, huh? What a FUCKING coincidence. I don't know who or how, but this is some kind of trap."

He stomps back to the computer, double checking a few things. He shakes his head.

"Southden's real. It's small, but by all accounts it's a real city. How? How the hell?"

You check back on Caius and Dr. Finch.

"Nothin' yet," says Caius. "I tipped tha bookshelf, had to put all tha binders back on it. Nothin' behind it. Ceiling and floor are solid."

"I checked all the binders," Dr. Finch states. "No false backs, no hollowed out portions... nothing there. That... screen is a little unusual, but it's broken. I'm not actually sure what it's purpose was, unless it was involved in testing somehow."

"I could move tha file cabinet," Caius says, "but it's gonna be a pain. That's tha real deal--prob'ly made to survive fires an' all that, but it's heavy enough it might be bulletproof. I don't think a bunch o' nerds coulda' moved it in tha first place... no offense."

"None taken," replies Dr. Finch.

"We did just start lookin', though," adds Caius. "It could be in a diff'rent room."

Dr. Finch hmms to himself. "It could. The ghost was in here, though, and that makes me suspicious. Hiding it from the director... the director who rarely, if ever, actually enters the bunkers." He adjusts his glasses. "We're getting very familiar with these bunkers ourselves. Maybe it's something out of place, something that looks fine if you've never been in a Zone Fifty bunker before, but looks slightly askew if you're searching for it..."

"Tha bunkers all got different layouts, though," replies Caius. "We seen big rooms, small rooms, hallways. Like, tha only thing that stays tha same is like... tha colors? Tha wallpaper? I dunno, Doc."

Check the cracks in the wall by the door, maybe? Could be a hidden button, a loose stone, anything?
Crestlinger 20th Mar 2018, 11:48 PM edit delete reply
Could just be age but from the current one Vs. E the cracks in the doorframe? For the cabinets take out the drawers and check the frame of them itself.

If it was behind the cabinet, something that heavy would have left some sort of floor mark.

Now, what are those wires by the cabinet for?
Any indication of purpose?
Might be related to the something different we're looking for.

What, is Caius too chicken to move that filing cabinet? :P

I guess let's check out that weird wall tile! I'm still getting weird feelings about that screen, though.

Ooh! The wall tile is right underneath the monitor! Try flipping that antennae looking thing like a lever!
PurpleKetchup 21st Mar 2018, 12:56 AM edit delete reply
It does look suspicious.

For reference, here's a nice view of all (save the original doorway) the rooms we currently have access to.

I think Caius is onto something. Look at the "wallpaper" at the bottom. Even in the dilapidated state the bunker is in, it's consistent. That includes it being lower than the rest wherever there's a doorway. Check that section of the wall the broken monitor is against and see if it's a false wall.
My other guess would be the doorway leading into here. If you expect the place to be turned inside-out, what better place to hide documents than at the entrance door where no one would probably either bother searching or want to search (for fear of breaking the mysterious portal door).
Otherwise my next guess is the locked door. Which I agree we should check last. This place has been too, "clean," so far. I'm expecting dead bodies behind that door and for said dead bodies to get possessed by ghosts and attack us so really want to save that for last (and have something heavy nearby to barricade the door as we're going to be forcing it open).

Good eye on the wallpaper, we should definitely check there.

Hmmm. Seems like someone is doing time-fuckery. (It's entirely possible the time-fuckery is coming from *us,* in the future, somehow... or perhaps it's those "tradesmen.")

One of the hazard stripes on the wall below the monitor is weirdly placed. False wall?

The border painting under the cracked screen?
