Morgenstern
You begin to do basic first aid on Michelle to further patch her up, as you really only did the bare essentials while you were the blood.

You remember that Mav's phone was taken by one of the cultists--so you're pretty sure she hasn't been tracked. You ask Pierce if he has a cell phone.

Pierce shakes his head. "It broke a few days ago... the dangers of texting on a ladder."

You continue to converse with him while you treat Michelle. You ask Pierce about the church.

"I'll tell you what I can, though that may not be much," he says. "Things began to change dramatically after Prophet died. He used to be the only one that could talk to 'the goddess Enyo.' After he was gone, 'Enyo' began to take a far more involved hand in church affairs. We were heavily manipulated, forced to push drugs and recruit to the less involved levels of the church more rapidly.

There had always been division between those that wanted to focus on perpetuating the cycle, and people like Prophet--who saw the cycle as more a metaphor, and wanted to use our power and resources to rise up and fight our wealthy oppressors. After Prophet died... well, no one was getting what they wanted. We weren't moving any closer to summoning a god, nor were we making progress against the shackles of society. We were just cogs in some unsightly machine, pushed to double our efforts toward a goal we didn't comprehend. For days in a row, we barely slept, only spread Enyo's influence through the streets."

You ask Pierce if he knows about the tunnels.

"I have seen them," he replies. "Briefly. There were... vehicles, built on tracks, that members of our church used to transport goods. My brothers admitted to me that they didn't always know what they were transporting, or why... service to Enyo."

"D'you always talk like that?," Michelle suddenly asks.

Pierce stares at her, blankly, seeming a bit confused.

Michelle clarifies. "Your, uh... tone, the way you talk. I dunno how to say this, but it sounds a lot like how that guy possessed by Thale talked. I know you're not him--like, you can't be, not here--but it's weirdin' me out."

"Oversync," Fuse mutters. "We know Thale's oversynced his family, right? Maybe after Prophet bit it, Thale started syncing up the cult. They'd all start slowly sounding like him, thinking like him, acting like him... until eventually, they were him. We probably got to Pierce before it was too late."

"Thale...?," Pierce asks.

"Enyo's real name," Caius says. "Patton Thale. Some rich asshole playin' half tha city. You guys thought you was fightin' tha rich... you were helpin' do their dirty work."

Pierce sighs, and lowers his head. "I am not surprised. I was so confident in our scriptures, my convictions, when Prophet was leading us... but once he passed, everything changed so quickly. Using the Many to block Eny--er, Thale's influence and summon the adversary Prophet always warned against... it felt like a way out, like we were taking our futures into our own hands. It ended in such disaster."

"Yeah, endin' in disaster is Thale's specialty," Caius adds.

After considering it, you bring up a possibility: what if the tunnels under the city form a ritualistic symbol? You've seen arcane marks done on floors, and within a human body--what if Thale's been building up a spell throughout the city itself?

"It'd be a helluva plan," Michelle replies. "Is Thale the type to use magic, though? We know the cult's about it, but... man, Thale comes off like such a stiff. I can't imagine that creepy bastard castin' spells and lightin' candles."

"I do think you're onto something, though," Fuse says. "Just taking over the city feels like small potatoes now. I mean, Thale has the city. He's basically untouchable. He's setting up something else, not just vying for more of what he's already got."

"And," Michelle adds, "we learned tonight he's still got some aces in the hole. He took one human body and almost wiped out everybody there. No tellin' what else he's hidin'."

"You know," Fuse says, turning to Crease and Zene, "we do have beds down the hall. If you guys want to rest, it might be a minute or two before Dr. Finch--"

"I've waited this long," Crease says, "I want to be right here when Mav gets out."

Zene nods. "Yeah, f'real. If another mutant or monster or whatever blasts through the wall chasing her, we're gonna be right here for it."

Fuse turns back to Pierce. "Do you want a place to sit down?"

Pierce slowly shakes his head. "I do not think I could rest, and sitting is difficult right now."

"Why?," Caius asks. "You get shot in tha ass or somethin'?"

It's very, very hard for Michelle to keep from laughing. It would be painful, and she knows it, and you can see the struggle in her face. She barely keeps it (mostly) contained.

"Around the lower back," Pierce clarifies, fighting back his own wry smile.

Check and see if Pierce has any special skills or talents, and if he would be willing to work with us to stop Thale? If he was looking for purpose, Jane can help in that regard.

I wonder how he’ll react to Mom’s Red?

Quite enthusiastically, I expect.

Get what he knows about magic and where he learned it, as it may be of some use. After all, he was part of those who were in the ritual that did get some results.

Make sure the bullet passed through. If not, get it removed if that's possible, and then patch Pierce up.

Also also seconding private discussion of some length with Michelle. We owe her a lot, and she isn't just a tube cop. She needs to know that.

Michelle & Jane... date soon methinks.

We do really, really need a personal conversation. I don't know. With us being so near to death, closer than we ever have before, we need to talk with her.

Especially because I think they'd look cute together, I mean what? I didn't say anything.

I think Pierce is going to be credit to team. We should definitely offer him a chance to work with us, given that we really *are* trying to fight against injustices and save the world and all that good stuff.
Loki 12th Mar 2018, 11:19 PM edit delete reply
Once there’s news about Mav, we should definitely spend some time with Michelle.

Also, tissue transmutation has so many possibilities, but most of them are pretty monstrous and are probably best considered another time, or in other company, if ever.

Okay, I'm tired of us being reactive... I'm thinking we start getting proactive.

It's obvious from this last fight that Thale's queened a hefty portion of the city. The only chance for most of the people in the city is if we blood them.

Once we're stable, here's the plan:
We need to lace some shipments of Queen. Better more on our team than more on Thales.

Also, we have the innate ability to sense the adversary, according to Mom's Red if I recall. Granted, with the adversary down, that's not too much of a useful trait. But it DOES make me wonder if we practice, if we can sense those who are queened. We may be able to practice with some Queen. It would make it much easier if we can just Rambo down a street with a dart gun, getting those who have been Queened, rather asking each one to say Thale's name. (Of course, don't bring any Queen into the bunker for practice in case Thale can sense through it.)

Is Pierce wearing a visor like Fuse? That's hilarious.

Anyway, the next little while ought to be spent patching everybody up, and maybe giving Pierce grief counseling ("all my friends are dead!") and/or the "welcome to the base, don't mind the talking wall" talk.
PurpleKetchup 13th Mar 2018, 12:46 AM edit delete reply
No dissing the visors, man. They're all the rage in the lower tiers.
Blue_Elite 13th Mar 2018, 12:07 AM edit delete reply
Right, so, a few things:
1. Ask Pierce if he knows anything about Geoangular Control or can explain how he/the cult learned magic.

2. When it's Pierce's turn on the operating table, Dr. Finch should check for ritualistic symbols in him (he can check while removing the bullet). If there are, we can pretty much assume everyone under Thale's control is a walking bone bomb.
On that note, it'd be nice if we could figure out a way to remove said symbols via blood abilities.

3. We NEED to contact Jury and update her with this info. Make sure she's in a secure place where she can talk about secret matters of course; but Thale has a literal army of the damned (note all the people that attacked the truck when we made our escape) that he can twist into magic monsters at a whim. We really, really need backup at this point (thank you Jury for staying in the loop).
If she needs evidence to mobilize something, we can send her pictures of Lasker to at least convince there's a threat worth investigating to her superiors (we can also dig Sword Arm(s) back up but that's kinda morbid).

4. If we don't get the eye replaced, we should totes get our pink eyepatch back on. :3
Also make dinner (or whatever mealtime it is now) and ice cream plans. Having an ability to convert mass doesn't help if you don't maintain having mass.
Portal In Time 13th Mar 2018, 12:16 AM edit delete reply
Talk with Michelle. Not of anything particular, just talk. We should probably work on at least concealing our eye first, though.

And maybe ask what the visors are all about, maybe it's just a lower tier fashion trend, who knows.

Chatter a bit. See if Pierce has skills that could be useful for helping Fuse or Finch here at the base.

Check up Edison's canister too. I'm still kinda miffed we can't interact with her while she's inside. She could help so much.

Ask Pierce if he has any unique abilities.
Then introduce him to Red.

Cleantex time for Pierce and Jane when fully recovered and can we invest in some armour/practice making it? Seems like a good time to hone abilities. Also take stock of who wants to stay or leave (mars bunker or otherwise) as we've reached a relatively quiet point.
Edison Vs. the Many who would win?

Definitely have a shower, then food, and then just rest and small talk.
It has been a long day for everyone involved.
And we still need to finish repairing our brain.
