You check in on Michelle.

"You're not really a cop, are you?," he asks. He's young, maybe Fuse's age... maybe younger.

"Not right now I'm not," Michelle responds. "Ain't no due process here... no cameras, either, so you got no reason to lie. Say Patton Thale."

"P-Patton Thale," he answers.

It gives Michelle a moment of pause. "You ever do a drug called Save the Queen?"

"Queen? Yeah, I've done Queen," he says.

Again, Michelle is quiet for a moment. She's trying to piece together what this means. "You ever do stuff you can't explain? Like, stuff you didn't wanna do, for no reason?"

The young man, currently tied up on one of the beds, considers it for a second. "I... yeah. A few times. Just... random shit, y'know? Like, some dude would gimme an envelope. Just outta the blue, right? Wouldn't say nothin', but... I knew where to take that envelope. And, see, I din't have no reason to do it, but... I did it. I dropped that envelope off. Never found out what was in it, never asked, nobody told me nothin'. It was like... I just knew."

Michelle nods. "Back at the power plant, I asked you to say Patton Thale, and you wouldn't do it. Why not?"

He stares at the bunk above him. "...I dunno, man. Felt like a trap. Like it was... like it was dangerous or somethin', like somethin' bad was gonna happen to me if I said it. It was crazy, thinkin' about it now, 'cuz you guys coulda' shot me or whatever. It woulda' been way safer to just say it, but... I couldn't."

Michelle mulls it over for another few seconds, gritting her teeth and staring at the wall. She finally speaks up again. "That envelope... you do that kinda thing a lot? Any sorta schedule to it, any place it tends to happen at, anything...?"

"Nah," he replies. "Random as hell. I dropped off an envelope in the middles... shot a cop in the lowers, dude wasn't even doin' anything, that was like a week later. Then like six months later I caught myself doin' weird stuff again--me and these other guys, we just hung out at some street corner while a drug deal went off. I didn't know any of 'em, but we were like... standin' guard? I guess? Deal went off, we all walked away like nothin' had happened."

Michelle nods, mostly to herself. "You bein' in the power plant... was that you? That your choice, or was that another thing you can't explain?"

"Nah, that was me," he replies. "Me and my boys thought some shit was goin' down in that place--lot of weird noises, lot of stories. We played for it, I lost, so I had to go see what I could snatch."

You bring up the prospect of getting Fuse a cybernetic leg.

"As confident as I am in matters medical and biological," Dr. Finch begins, "properly installing a mechanical prosthetic may be a hair outside my purview. Difficult for me to admit, I will say, after managing the lofty feat of a brain transplant."

"There's plenty of guys in the lower tiers that'll do it," Fuse says, "back alley skin shops mostly. That place was creep central last time we rode through it, though."

"F'real," Caius adds. "Tha lower tiers are gettin' tha wrong kinda churchy, real friggen fast. I wouldn't trust people down there to install my air conditioner, nevermind a new leg."

"We could do some shopping around," Fuse says. "We'd just have to keep our heads down. Last thing Thale probably wants is us rolling up with exoskeletons and machine gun arms--so if I were him, I'd be keeping a close eye on anyone doing cybernetics."

You suggest that--in addition to shopping for a good cybernetics place--that you want to look into getting another space suit. That way, you don't have to bury Dr. Camp by yourself, and maybe Dr. Finch can help you explore Zone Fifty's work on Mars.

"I would... greatly enjoy that," Dr. Finch says. "Even if we have difficulty finding a store that sells space suits, we may just need to acquire materials to repair and replace the parts of the suits we have. We've quite a stock of suits as it is, they're just all very damaged."

You also bring up the security of your bunker door. Fuse--while a very talented hacker--was still able to break in here by himself, on extremely short notice, with things picked up from everyday hardware stores. Thale is Thale, and now has multiple hackers under his employ.

"That's... a good point," Fuse says. "I'll start figuring out ways to up our security, add a few more layers for a would-be decrypter to get through. I was so focused on the threat of another Tobu thing, I didn't even think about Howler and those other inmates just... wandering up to our front door."

Lastly, you text Jury a few suggestions for what to tell her superiors.

I'm going to theorise that it's the distance that makes the difference; it's because he's on Mars, he can now say Patton Thale. Jane's blood is superior and the distance doesn't matter, but for fake-o blood like StQ, it does. Hmm.

Let's ask the kid for his name, and ask if he learnt anything during his stint there. He *was* fiddling around in a locked area, after all, before we set it all ablaze; maybe he learnt something while he was there, or before he was there. Also, maybe ask how he feels about all the random stuff he did but didn't question, now. When Fuse was under StQ influence, he didn't feel much about shooting Blondie, but once he was relinquished from StQ effects, he felt all the fear and bewilderment rush right in. If the distance theory is correct, would our purple-haired teen feel something different now? Maybe? ._.

If we don't get cybernetics/space suit material procurement done in the lower tiers, could we pick it up in the middle tiers instead?
Blue_Elite 23rd Dec 2017, 12:13 AM edit delete reply
If we ask for a name it should probably just be a name rather than his real name (I'm going to go out on a limb that Fuse's real name is not "Fuse").

Also we should probably look for cybernetics in the upper-tiers since we can afford it. It'll seem the least suspicious and gives us the lowest chances of the establishment being under Thale's influence/control.
The spacesuit stuff I doubt Thale or anyone expects us to be looking for so we should be able to get that anywhere pretty safely.
rufiangel 23rd Dec 2017, 12:18 AM edit delete reply
Morgenstern has confirmed, actually, that Fuse's real name is Fuse. I don't see the harm in getting the kid's real name but it's up to him I guess, I dunno? XD;

I think there are several upper tier doctors who are in Thale's pocket and are members of Club Elegance; we'd need to specifically avoid them. I'm more for middle tiers than upper if we're going for cybernetics honestly, I think there's less chance of us standing out.
Swagner 23rd Dec 2017, 12:58 AM edit delete reply
Rather than distance, it might be a matter of Thale assuming direct control, like Blondie did back when Mac and Caius were first given their shots. Regardless, if the kid hasn't been innoculated yet, he should be now; as it stands, he's a time bomb. Thale made people commit suicide before, to keep them from being compromised; he's not just a danger to the party, but to himself.
rufiangel 23rd Dec 2017, 1:12 AM edit delete reply
I don't think he would have answered any of Michelle's questions though, if he was really under Thale's control. He would have straight up lied and said he hadn't taken Queen, I think? Just a thought, though. You could be right!

Again the mad conspirator in me says that Patton Thale has disabled his name trick, also is he actually on mars or is he in Bunker 1?
Baron11704 23rd Dec 2017, 2:12 AM edit delete reply
Shoot I looked back and saw he is in fact on bunker Mars (I forgot the number), but now it won't let me edit it, ah whatever, though we probably want to blood gas mask for the extra manpower, no point in having him locked up and mind controlled when we can have him not be that

To edit you have to make an account at Comic Fury. That's the service this board uses for posts.
You can also get an avatar then.

welp, they've done queen. Best to Blood them.
Wierdweblurker 22nd Dec 2017, 11:41 PM edit delete reply
Likely a good idea, especially with him this distant from Thale. In all likelihood any blood-related conditions (suicide if blooded) will not activate.
Madd 22nd Dec 2017, 11:49 PM edit delete reply
Blood him!
Tsukistar 23rd Dec 2017, 12:16 AM edit delete reply
Agreed, but we should give him the option. Have Fuse talk to him and ask him.

Be sure to send Jury a few cat emojis while you're at it, Jane ;P

Also, uhm.. Hm. Instead of going out to the next Plot Quest, I feel like we have to increase our defenses and stock a bit. Dr. Finch could search further into cybernetic limbs, Fuse could reinforce our door (and maybe make an additional card for a raven to use in case any of us are locked out), We join Michelle over into the interrogation and blood the Gas Mask guy as soon as possible - I don't want him to be left alone, for all we know Thale could make others Stretch Thin and whatnot on a whim. Caius should rest, though. He needs it.

I like your thinking. We can send animal allies to go explore the city for us, and if they find anything interesting, we can send Michelle to scope out the area. She's not exactly subtle, but Fuse is both critically injured and a firebomb, and we need Jane here for the time being.

Let's focus on increasing our defenses, stocking up, and thinking about what each team member needs to be at optimal health and efficiency.
Mochi 22nd Dec 2017, 11:43 PM edit delete reply
i think we should get fuse in to talk to the kid, and maybe untie him. he can't actually go anywhere right now. fuse has been where he is -- stuck doing weird shit he doesn't understand. he almost shot jane when they first met. we should explain enough to him that he understands why he's here and what's happening to him. offer him a choice to be blooded, but present it as "if you do this, you won't be forced to hurt people any more". then if he accepts, offer to drop him at a train station with enough cash to get the hell out of the city. we kind of fucked him over by bringing him with us, even if we might've ended up saving his life. the least we can do is give him a solid out.
Blue_Elite 23rd Dec 2017, 12:07 AM edit delete reply
Seconding this. I'd rather give GasMask a choice rather than forcibly blood him.

If he refuses we can just knock him out again and drop him off somewhere. As long as he's Queen'd nothing TOO bad should happen to him (he'd probably be in worse danger if we blooded him honestly; like what happened to the bartender who didn't even KNOW he was blooded).

I agree with Mochi... but we should ask a few more questions if we can, before we "catch and release"
Twyll 23rd Dec 2017, 2:10 AM edit delete reply
Does he need to go to the bathroom after being tied up all night...? We should probably ask about that before interrogating him >_>;
Guest 23rd Dec 2017, 2:15 AM edit delete reply
Blood gas mask, and really focus on getting those defenses up and running, our current ones, as teleporty as they are, are century old technology, getting in to that would be as easy as hacking into a Windows Vista, except like imagine a computer 70 more years older than that. Yeah. We need to fix that :P
T41 23rd Dec 2017, 2:41 AM edit delete reply
Ask our guest/captive if he has any connection to Enyo.
Baeronius 23rd Dec 2017, 3:14 AM edit delete reply
The best solution for using blood in a situation like this, would be... if we choose to blood him, we then use a syringe to remove the blood after it has done it's cleaning.

That way, if he's released, he can just claim he had a medical filter done to him. He won't negatively react to STQ if injected again, and might be able to be free for a while.

Get his name, explain the bare bones of what The Blood will do and offer him the chance to stay or leave.
Is it possible to bioprint Fuse a new leg or too far gone for that? If going cyber, get one fireproof and hackproof.
Otherwise rest up and see if there's any out-of city shipping agencies that deliver to doors quietly. Macland and Shirai should know of some if no one else.

You know... Mom's Red could probably do an amazing job with door security, just sayin'.
Twyll 23rd Dec 2017, 4:52 PM edit delete reply
I like this idea. Have it grow some tendrils with, like, sharp bone spurs or something around the door on the inside of the bunker, so if someone it doesn't recognize comes in, KSHUNK.
Baeronius 23rd Dec 2017, 4:11 AM edit delete reply
Oh also...
I found a reference to a primitive Bio Printer.

Shorthand, they took fat cells, grew those, then took base cells, and treated them to grow bone cells, nursed by the fat cells, once there was enough bone cells, they put them into the patient.
PurpleKetchup 23rd Dec 2017, 7:23 AM edit delete reply
The fact that distance might very well prevent Thale from assuming control over his thralls is quite important.

It means we could deal with his entire cohorts by teleporting him away from the city. The most affected ones (his family & secretary...) might just pass out from the sudden disconnection, and everyone else would just stop doing weird things they didn't originally want to.

Another Martian deathmatch sounds like the perfect final stage. Before that though, we'd have to be sure Jane is strong enough to defeat mom's old enemy, just in case it turns into a battle royale (it probably will).
