You consider everything that Nil has said before asking, "So what's in it for you? Why do you want a body, anyway?"

"Your form of awareness, electricity and chemicals housed in a physical cage, is a persistent burden." Nil's un-words become just a tad more stressful in your mind. "Consciousness as you know it is a weight around reality's proverbial neck. I have spent the whole of time as you comprehend it unwinding the morphic resonance. The end of subreal memory is an inevitability--I simply wish to hurry the process. Once your mind is made none, I will seek to render the same unto others. To honor the spirit of our agreement, of course, I would save the one you call Caius for last. You would afford him a great deal more time... relative to length for your species, at least."

You nod, trying not to reveal how incredibly angry this makes you. "Sure, sure, got it. You want to unmake human thought, alright. Why me? Why are you desperate enough to bargain over it?"

"Not desperation," Nil basically states. "Impatience. Presently, you are my strongest foothold on your world... a world capable of space travel. If I obtain your shell, I can quicken the process of undoing physical thought. If you agree to this offer, I can quicken the process of obtaining your shell. Such an opportunity to accelerate the thought death of the universe is rare."

You nod, gritting your teeth. "Okay. Why does it need to be me that gets to the empty Caius clone? You said I was in a unique position or whatever, what's that mean?"

"The one called Gesenai Shirai is aware of the alternative body's location, and can reach it with little difficulty."

"Then me and Ges can do it without you. Right? What do we need you for?"

Nil's pieces jerk abruptly. "You lack the knowledge to conduct a resonant mind transfer. Your species has developed machinery that duplicates electrical processes to physiologically similar brain shapes, but it is only that--a replication of electrical signals, and a suggestion of chemical patterns. It does not move the psychic self in whole, and it is subject to error. It would not be the one you call Caius. It may not even resemble him at all. I can commit his transfer from dying body to living one without flaw."

Reject Nil. Have faith in the eldritch hug god. With any luck Mac can get on his phone the moment he wakes up and explain to the party what's going on.

fuck you, shitbird.

we're going to fix caius our fucking selves and then we're going to pry you out of macland's head and make sure you never, ever, EVER get the fucking chance again. you tipped your hand so far you practically gave us your cards. you really don't know how humans work at all, do you?

see if we can get him to let slip anything more on the how. then flip him the double birds and ollie the fuck out.

Nil seems to be losing patience with us, but eh, fuggit. Let's try to stay on the line as long as we can to extract as much info as possible, possibly ask "what even IS a psychic self? Do aliens have proof of souls? Am I supposed to accept Jesus into my heart because aliens, or something?" I figure he'll eventually hang up on us, but best to get as much info as we can before that happens.

Get more information - as much as we can about brain stuff transfer- and I guess we're going to try and do it ourselves and tell Nil to go take a flying leap back into Nothing Land.

To do it ourselves, we're going to have to keep Caius alive as long as possible. Transfuse blood if necessary? Dr. Finch is ready to go for surgery at the bunker, right?

Please don't forget the random dude we stuck in the back of the hummer. I know we have more important things on our mind right now but I really don't want that to come back and bite us in the butt.

we can lock him in the office on mars while we deal with our bigger fish.

Also really, really want to blood him JUST in case. I don't want to find out Thale has "able to see presence" powers over his thralls like we do via the bunker door being surrounded by Thale-thralls just waiting to pounce on us.

Yeah, just because bargaining is over does not mean information gathering is. I'm assuming Macland doesn't have a sense of urgency (i.e. Mac is not dying), so let's keep up the questions. Questions like what is a psychic self? And why is our process not enough to move one?
Blue_Elite 15th Dec 2017, 7:49 PM edit delete reply
Ya, this was precisely what I was afraid of. Nil wants Macland because Macland has a position where he can force others to get Nil and basically cascade a Nil-zombie apocalypse.
Even if I don't personally like Macland; I wouldn't want to subject him to that and I wouldn't want to subject the world to Nil.

At this point I'm thinking of pulling a Kaiba and essentially say, "Screw destiny! I've got money!" and storm out of this non-dream.
THEN I'd get into contact with Ges, see about the Caius/clone crossover matter, and see if anything could be done. Not only would this score points for us in the screwy nurse's book (who we're relying on to get rid of Nil), it'd be a nice way of flipping off Nil at the same time. Win-win in our books.

Ghhhhhhhh I kind of want to save Caius with Nil's help and I kind of want to try to save him on our own but that has a good chance of going wrong.

Nil is trying to commit suicide.

He exists within the absence of thought, therefore with no thought at all, there is no longer a place for absence. Because if all is uniform the state of absence no longer exists. As that is a mental concept in itself.

Just like with physical space, the gap between planets, solar systems and galaxies is actually made by the physical properties of the molecules surrounding it.
If physical matter ceased to be, so too would the space. Hence Space/Time.
