You step outside to call Gesenai Shirai, presumably as she's on her way to pick up Macland Row.

"Hello?"

You explain everything as... succinctly as you possibly can. You mention, specifically, that the thing Carpenter put in Mac's head--Nil--is still there, you've just disabled the coma it induced. Nil itself could still be a problem in the future.

"I can't believe it. I thought Macland was just hallucinating... people have weird nightmares when they're out for that long. So it's true? Macland saw a god? Wait, does that mean you're...?

You suggest that 'god' is a strong term. You have a lot of power. So does Nil, it's just a very different power. You don't intend to hurt anyone--you've just been kind of dragged into this from the beginning, everything else has just been fighting for your own survival. Carpenter unleashed Nil on Macland Row, and set you up to take the fall for it. Carpenter probably worked with Thale on the matter, orchestrating events so that Shirai would come after you harder to avenge Macland. In reality, Shirai's just been getting played by Carpenter and Thale. That being said, if Gesenai and Macland are planning to escape the city, Carpenter and Thale do not need to know about it.

You've also been through a pretty massive ordeal getting Macland to wake up. Shirai owes you. A car, specifically.

Gesenai heaves a big, long sigh. "I can get you another car. What are we going to do about this... Nil.... thing? I don't want Macland to get possessed by a thought monster."

Tell her we can remove Nil. But we need more than 24 hours to prepare this time.

This time though, perhaps we don't need to act as if there is a time limit. Seeing as we already brough Macland out of his coma, Shirai will most likely have a somewhat favorable outlook towards us, especially considering her personal relationship with Macland.
Tl;dr: Don't ask for a time limit extension or anything like that. Take as long as needed to figure out how to remove Nil b/c hopefully Shirai won't impose a time limit.

honestly? We've got no fucking idea. Carpenter's probably got something that might put the genie in the bottle but what Mack's said about just leaving the city and going somewhere tropical to wait for all this to blow over might be a good idea for him, low stress environment to avoid accidentally triggering something. Well, either that or Nil would slowly take him over during all the peace and quiet R&R.

Carpenter's lab stuff's probably the best bet to getting it all under wraps though.
.... Have we mentioned about how Thale's controlling people through Save the queen yet and that our blood can remove that control for the small price of our minimal price of constantly knowing of your existence and possibility of influence?
Free will is a wonderful thing and Jane respects that, as she has no real interest in controlling everyone like fleshy marionettes.

We can work on that remotely, at a later date. For now, she and Macland need to try and avoid Thale's suspicion. If possible. Shirai, it's weird to see you soften up so much but... looks like the truth FINALLY got to you. That is a relief.

Catch up with Fuse/Michelle, go to sleep maybe? And when we wake up we can set out repairing our damaged memories, first. (And Fuse's, if necessary.)

wait, since when is there a WE? you're... you're asking for our help, now? really? you have some fucking nerve after all this bullshit! you've tried to kill us! a lot! the fuck makes you think we want to help you? the deal was, we wake up your buddy and you step the fuck off. you and yours have done literally zero favors for us. how about a fucking apology first? an apology, and a car, and a good night's sleep. then maybe we'll see what we can do about the elder god that's making a cozy nest in your friend's noggin.

(but, of course, we will help, because that's just the kind of person jane is. far better than these fuckers. seriosuly though, i hope it's not lost on her how laughable it is that she's begging us for help after trying to kill us four fucking times)

Ratger than saying decisively that we can get rid of Nil, I would say we would be happy to try to figure out how because he could prove a threat to us should he manage to take over Macland.

Promisykng to get rid of Nil but failing could cause unnecessary troubles by turning Genesai solidly against us; letting her know that there is a chance of failure because this is fairly new territory for us will put the responsibility of failure partially on her and likely make her more open to giving us more time. Now that Macland is functional again, she stands to lose more if we make a mistake because we rushed the procedure instead of cautiously taking our time to find out what methods could do more harm than good.

Pointing out that we have a personal stake in removing Nil will make us seem more trustworthy than if we offered to do it out of the goodness of our hearts.

Grizwald said if they kept dreaming they were fine. Tell her that. We can let them take care of it until we're not fighting for our lives. Here's some advice straight from him. "Stay well rested, keep a dream diary, whatever... they could keep themselves dreamin' nothin' would happen."

Maybe we could just like, regularly get his mind to synthesize DMT or whatever

If I'm recalling my neurochemistry correctly, the brain already makes that stuff, and that's how people dream??

We could just ensure he makes enough to dream, 'till the problem is fixed

Excellent idea. If he can take any dream-inducing supplements or something on his own, too, that might be a good idea. Might give him a bit of a feeling of agency, at least, which will hopefully keep him focused on something that isn't paranoia and potentially doing stupid things?

It seems to me like we’ve finally gotten through to Gesenai. Proceed with caution, but I say we offer to try fix this up completely first and set our own timetable. If anything, this situation has made it clear that she’s in no place to make demands. We make it clear that we’re the good guys and that there’s still hope for the both of them if they join us, and we gain allies in Thale’s inner circle.

Things might actually be easier than we think because we might be able to get Macland to agree to a sync, which should be easier.

If Shirai wants us to help with Nil, we're going to need her help keeping all our OTHER enemies off our backs. Also, a class war breaking out would kinda get in the way of us dealing with Nil too. We need all the information she has on Carpenter and Thale, and we're gonna need her to at least work subtly to keep shit from going off the rails if we're going to have ANY chance of focusing on the Nil problem. Also, if she has any documentation regarding Edison, that'd be swell to have, because a cloud of child-shaped psycho killer electricity would ALSO get in the way of us being able to fix Macland.

By the way, we should have Fuse check out his memories for signs of Nil infection too. It might not have gotten to him because we've been in the driver's seat during syncing, so to speak, but it might have managed to sneak in anyway.

It just occurred to me that we should stress how very lucky she is that Edison failed and we captured her, and that she tried something that almost backfired catastrophically, as Edison expressed a desire to kill everyone, including Shirai. If that’s at the front of her mind, it might make her more amenable to our ideas, as her own... don’t have the best track record
