You inform the others, and ask Fuse and Dr. Finch if either could scramble the signal.

"There's a few methods we could use to discern the nature of the tracking device," Dr. Finch says. "Based on what type of signal is being sent out, and to where, interrupting the broadcast should be possible."

Fuse agrees. "I'm pretty sure I could throw together something to scramble the signal, but... I mean, I'll have to throw something together. Every second we've got that thing could be risky."

"So we... what?," Caius starts. "Drive around with tha can, hopin' they ain't gonna get to us before we get tha tracker scrambled?"

"Basically, yeah," Fuse responds. "It shouldn't take too long to get it done, but... they could be coming for us right now. We really don't know. We could just leave the canister behind."

Caius shakes his head. "I don't wanna give Monster Mash right back to Shirai, that's just gonna bite us in tha ass later. If we ditch tha can, we need to ditch it in like... a river, or into a reactor or somethin'."

"I dunno if Edison can be reasoned with," Michelle says, "but I really don't wanna be responsible for killin' her. If... she can even be killed, I mean. Heck, if she can't be killed then dumpin' her somewhere she can't be reached might be worse. If we do give her back to Shirai... we could leave a burner phone or somethin'? I think Shirai could be turned if we could just talk to her. We know stuff she doesn't. This could be our chance."

"A burner phone, that we then call with a different burner phone when they show up," Fuse adds. "Add as many layers as possible, in case Shirai's a little too committed to killing us."

You fill Dr. Finch in on what the others said. He considers it for a second. "The condition of Edison... being trapped in the container for an extended period... that does raise some questions, yes? Yes."

Dr. Finch knocks on the canister. "Hello? Ms. Edison? Can you hear me in there?" Silence. "Can you reply, please?" Nothing.

He turns back to you. "I'm wondering if the containment unit doesn't put her into some manner of stasis... either as a feature of her interactions with its structure, or just as a side effect of her nature overall. There are varieties of parrot that, when a towel or blanket is thrown over their cages, they will immediately fall asleep. In spite of years of evolution, a darkened cage makes them believe it's night. Perhaps trapped inside that canister, Edison goes into a sort of hibernation...? Or or or maybe the canister is just sound proof. Either is plausible."

...Huh. So even if she's been in that canister for over a century, she might have only been *awake* for a very little amount of time. That's certainly plausible, based on her general childlike nature, yeah.

If we can manage to drive around while Fuse throws something together to stop the tracker, I suggest we do that. I don't exactly like having Edison with us, but I like having her in the hands of our enemies even less. And the fact that she might actually mentally be a child, not just an old entity that acts like a child, makes me very leery of letting Shirai get her hands on her again. Because Shirai can't do ANYTHING right, so I seriously doubt she can handle taking care of a child, either.

It's true that *if* Fuse can get the scrambler working fast enough, this option works out in the long-run the best because it gives us the time to figure out what to do; we have more options open to us if we have more time.

In the event that he *cannot*, however, we need a sort of backup plan. >_>a I can't help but not be too optimistic about the chances here; they're probably already on their way and we still need to regroup before we set off again, and we have the canister on us so it's probably not going to help us in terms of our speed...

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I suspect Finch's first idea was right. She was too... playful (although certainly not too hateful) to have been stewing in there fully conscious for 100 years.

I'm thinking that combining 2 plans might be best: perhaps create a fake transmitter (under the assumption that that's as easy as scrambling the current one, if not then disregard the rest of this), and fire it up at the same time Edison is deposited on Mars. Then, ditch the fake transmitter with a burner phone somewhere. (No need to give Edison back to Shirai before opening negotiations.)

She also might act like a kid because she is a kid, she is kid sized as far as I can tell, plus I think having crazy electricity powers on top of probably being experimented on probably led to an internal power fantasy there, which might be why she's so homicidal, after all her only weakness is probably water and that can. Wait I wonder, maybe conductive materials screw with her, maybe a bullet would have done something, water is bad for electricity for the sole reason of it being conductive, metal should and would have the same effect, imagine seeing a bunch of wires and just taking a paper clip across 'em, water basically does that, it's just better at it because it's liquid nature allow it to seep through the tiniest cracks

It'd be kinder on Edison if she were hibernating, that's for sure.

I'm not too sure I trust it'd go well if we tried to throw together something to scramble the signal before we get tracked down.

I'm kinda leaning towards leaving Edison somewhere not easily spotted by the general public and leaving a burner phone behind, not necessarily because it's the Best Idea but mostly because out of the options we have, it seems the Best Option. And maybe just getting a chance to actually speak with Shirai would help us get a word in edgewise? Not that I think we could get her to be a 'good guy' by any means (she's pretty bad) but at least we could try and get her to see that Carpenter's the one who messed Macland up, not us. Get her crappy murder attempts turned towards Carpenter rather than us, please, maybe? :'D Ehhhh.

Yeah, I agree, I've felt for a long time that Shirai is the most likely of team TH to turncoat. Not to benefit us in any way, but because she's being motivated by a bunch of lies on her end. We need to emphasize our potential ability to save Mac, and the very real risk that Carpenter will snatch his body before too much longer.

Michelle ought to chew Shirai about teaching weird games to electromutant kids.

I think going with the burner phone option is our best bet right now, or attaching a remote bomb to the canister

I do love the idea of the canister simply popping open as Shirai's goons reach for it.

I'm going to say that regardless of whether or not it's better for us if we give Edison back; morally it's the worst option. Even if the plan to leave the canister with a burner phone works AND Shirai agrees to stop hounding us, Edison will still be doomed to a life as a "living" weapon and nothing else. I highly doubt Shirai, Macland, or anyone in that group has Edison's best interests in mind.

Can we go forward with the scrambling plan with a raven watch overhead? If we can identify if trouble is coming far enough ahead and think we won't be able to pull it off; it shouldn't be that hard to stop VERY briefly, drop off the canister on the side with phone/note, and speed off.

It's sounding like we should use out Human Compassion to try to work out a truce with Edison. If we have her canister, then they might not be able to recapture her easily, since it's vintage Zone Fifty technology. Even if all we can do is say "Hey, we freed you because we don't suck," that might still convince Edison to hunt down the people after us and give them the business.
Blue_Elite 21st Nov 2017, 2:17 AM edit delete reply
She'll hunt down those people, people who are not those people, and us. Edison is currently 100% homicidal (albeit childish about it). We'll have to go through a lot of therapy before we can let her out without a leash.
We definitely shouldn't just let Edison out, no one would benefit from that.

If we can figure out a way to contain her without the canister and maybe give her some actual sewing projects (that don't involve flesh), it could be a good start. But of course we have neither the time nor resources to do that right this instant.

Keep the canister, have a bird drop a (sturdy) burner phone near Shirai and chat. Remember Edison said she's next and we have the canister still.

I think it would be best not to reveal your ravens to them, then they'll start shooting every raven they see, which may include ours

i like the 'chain of burner phones' idea. even if we can't turn shirai, and she is a massive dumbass, she does deserve to know the whole story, especially with macland and all that, i think. i don't think we should give edison back to her, though. if we can block the signal they might still come to the place where it was last broadcasting, so the phone chain could still work.

The more Zone 50 stuff comes up, the more SCP they seem. D:
