You ask Edison what happens if you choose the wrong door.

"Then your friend becomes my next sewing project, of course!"

So you only get one attempt at it...

You point out that, normally, in game shows that involve picking a random door the contestant gets a chance to change their answer. They'll pick one door, but then the show host will open all the doors but two--the one the contestant picked, and another door that might have the prize behind it. The contestant then gets asked if they want to switch.

"Hmm," Edison considers, "you know, you're right! If this is going to be proper we need to do that choice switching thing! Okay then--pick your door, and I'll open all the doors but your door and one other door. One of those two doors will definitely have the head behind it."

You also ask if you can phone a friend.

"Wha-- but-- that's a very different kind of game show! This is one of those what with the doors and all, not a quiz. Don't be silly."

You ask if you can at least get a hint, or a clue or something.

"Nope! I don't want to make it too easy, now do I? The head is most certainly behind one of the five doors."

You ask if there's a name Edison would prefer to be called, over the one the scientists gave her.

"Are you trying to sweet talk me? Well, it won't work, Mister! Pick your door."

Edison hangs up.

You ask Red if she can "feel" Jury, or peek through the doors, or... anything.

Red shakes her head. "I'm not physically here... just a manifestation of the thoughts you don't know you're having, slightly warped by how much syncing you've done."

You ask, just as a random aside, if she can change her appearance.

Red shrugs. "I look like this because that's what you expect me to look like. Before all that syncing, the thought of your innermost thoughts being visible didn't even occur to you. Maybe if you get back in your own mental lane long enough, you'll stop seeing me entirely, and I'll just go back to being you talking to yourself. Until then... you know I'm only here because of the red, and this is how you picture the red. It'll be hard to talk yourself out of it."

Hmmmmmmm. I have an idea. Lets pick the door that Blodie is still in. We might be able to get some feedback via Red, so we will have a better idea if the head is in the the room with her and if no evidence or other such things are forthcoming, then we pick the second unopened door.
Also ask Edison what will happen to Blondie if we guess correctly and leave?

Fuse should pick the door we're most certain does not have the head behind it then switch to the other door. we'd have four in five odds of picking correctly if we just picked a random door then switched since there's a one in five chance of the first one we pick being wrong. If we can make sure the first one we pick is wrong then we can switch and we'll win.

Agreed, the trick isn't to pick the right one, but rather the wrong one and let Edison show us the right one.

I say pick a door that isn't 1 or 4.
yugi0998 16th Nov 2017, 7:24 PM edit delete reply
i say pick 2 because its not in the middle 1 and 5 are ends 3 is the middle and 4 was moving so 2

1- Pick and choose another door, or Edison's hiding the head as a trick.
2- Agent and capsule are outside that one, probably the rest of Jury inside, with or without head is the question.
3-No blood or anything so head could have just been tossed in there meaning if it Is there is will be easy to spot.
4- Hidden in or behind something in the cafeteria that was overlooked, unlikely.
5-Eyeball placed in plant post-mortem head tossed in room around this time? No blood on door handle though.

Based on this Pick 4 in case of trick then choose the other.

No blood on door handle is actually somewhat telling. Remember the board: No blood, no fun.

Could also be some sort of weird pattern in this. Hucked the arms into 1 and 5, legs in 2 and 4, and placed her head in 3. That'd be a bit obvious, but at the same time, this is a psychopath with a thing for sewing we're talking about here, so... y'know.

Either way, I'm leaning towards 3 for this.

It just hit me: Thomas Edison; as in the guy who pushed DC power and did all those electricity-based inventions (such as the telegraph, i.e. the forerunner of telephones/cellphones). I'm guessing "Thomas" was too much of a boy's name.

ANYWAY, as for the wrong guess to narrow it down to 2 doors: I'd say go with door #3. Door #1, of course, has that "trick" appeal to it. Door #2 has the federal agent and container in front of it. Door #4 was the door opened for us originally. And Door #5 is the door opposite #4 (and the plant with the eye was closest to it) in case Edison was originally trying to set this up from the beginning. Door #3 has nothing special about it.
Ideally, Edison will make us choose between doors #1 and #4 (our best guesses).

Edison never actually said you couldn't pick one of the unmarked doors, do that.
Akasha 16th Nov 2017, 8:35 PM edit delete reply
...pfffahahaha oh my god, you're right.

That's so silly that I kinda actually want to do that, if only to see how Edison'll react.
Mochi 16th Nov 2017, 8:59 PM edit delete reply
i think that might be construed as cheating, as the logical assumption when she said 'i'll mark the classrooms' is that we would pick from the classrooms. you are right, though. she didn't actually say we couldn't.
Blue_Elite 16th Nov 2017, 9:58 PM edit delete reply
If this were a game of D&D, I'm pretty sure the DM would give you an XP bonus for clever thinking.

Unfortunately this is a crazy child who paralyzed Blondie because she was "planning to cheat," as well as told us she "doesn't want to make it too easy." I think increasing our odds from 1 out of 5 to 1 out of 2 is about the best we can get for now.

Wait, THIS IS A GOOD IDEA! since we KNOW the head ISNT in any unmarked door, SHE WILL SHOW IS THE RIGHT DOOR!!!
Baeronius 16th Nov 2017, 9:26 PM edit delete reply

Is this the "Goat Door" thing again?

Well. Time to Goat Door it up then. Odds of hitting a door one by one are 1 in 5, but odds of getting the correct door when the goat option is up.... becomes 4 out of 5, because the opposite of every wrong door is the right one.

Pick one and trade it, then you have 4/5. Math. I do that stuff.

Deadly Death Sickle

Um, door number 5?
Azith 16th Nov 2017, 11:19 PM edit delete reply
Well. I hate/love these kind of puzzles, so let's start at the top.
"I'll mark all the classrooms, and you have to figure out which door I've hidden the head behind. If you can find it, I'll let you go!"
"The head is most certainly behind one of the five doors". And we can be reasonably certain Edison will not accept us pick any door that she hasn't marked, as that would be cheating.

Now, the textbook solution to this, as Baeronius stated, is to pick a door and trade to the other, as (n-1)/n is much better odds than 1/n. However, that only works if we pick the WRONG door. So, as several others have concluded, we should choose door #4, and switch to whatever door remains after eliminations.

*chanting* Door Number Three! Door Number Three!
Steve 16th Nov 2017, 11:57 PM edit delete reply
Just repeating, I vote for door 3.
Macheman7 16th Nov 2017, 11:59 PM edit delete reply
I vote door number 2, as it's closest to the corpse.
Yes, this is the basis of my voting; I haven't really kept up on the math or whatever.
