You update everyone, informing them that something's trying to mess with the electrical processes in your brains. You stopped it. With tin foil hats. Technically aluminum.

Dr. Finch blinks slowly and deliberately. "You... what?" He rubs at his temples, considering it for a second. "It... it it it's not unheard of. Depending on the structure of a cell phone, for example, wrapping one in aluminum foil can block incoming signals. I just... you... you're not a cell phone, and I doubt the interference is being performed via radio signal. I'm having a great deal of trouble taking this at face value."

Michelle shakes her head, trying not to laugh. "Of all the stuff we've ran into, this... I dunno. I'm not buyin' it."

Caius shrugs. "Seriously? We got a bottomless pit, a space bunker and an alien growin' on our walls, you're drawin' tha line at tin foil hats?"

"Yes," Michelle replies. "Look, I gotta be skeptical about somethin', and I don't want Grizwald to be right about everything."

You make more tin foil hats, then head back out into the hall.

"I guess the next question," Fuse starts, "is what next. Meet up with the front team? See what's on the chalkboard?"

Break the window in the door and try levitating the eyeball that we bloodied inside. I’d rather not get attacked if someone is hiding inside.

I would like to check out the chalkboard and see what is on it.

People in tinfoil hats always seem... off. I don't want that to happen to us.

Assuming, in this case, that there's some good reason behind it, it can't be because they're wrong.

As far as I can tell, this leaves us with one possible explanation...

Neurological damage.

If something's powerful enough to scramble your brain, there's a good chance it could be scrambling the rest of your nervous system. We've just gotten our conscious processing "above the water" so to speak. The rest of our nervous systems are still being subjected to it.

Tinfoil bodysuits! (And BEFORE we go look at the chalkboard!)

Oh.... Hmm... You mean microwave cookers?

Also if the hats are working to reduce whatever is affecting us, that means the source is ABOVE us.

Cause if it was coming from below, the refractive angle of the hat would basically cause inward amplification.

So those satellite things are probably a good answer.

Unless, of course, the source isn't exactly electromagnetic.

Still leaves extremeties exposed. Still risk of subconscious neurodamage.

I think... We probably *should* see what's on the chalkboard. But I'm all for being cautious about it and using levitating eyeballs or whatever it takes :P

Also everyone's reaction to the tinfoil hats was precious XDDD

I wonder if it'd be possible to have Red basically take over our visual cortex for a moment so we can have her "look at it for us" with our own eyes. Adding a layer of abstraction into the situation might shield us from any sort of cognitive hazard.

Do we have a camera phone on us, by any chance? Even taking photos of it and reading it from those photos might help mitigate a possible psychic attack.

i would feel safer if we had all our eggs in one basket as it were, but that also means caius in a little tinfoil hat and i’m not sure i, personally, would be able to deal with that.

If we want to know for sure, we should sync with Finch and pop this weird machine open. If it’s a machine that is powerful enough to mess with brain electricity but weak enough to be stopped by tinfoil, it’s probably in that casing. If it is a psychic attack, then our tinfoil may be more of a memetic defence than anything physical - we think we have armour, and that belief is protecting us.

it's not a machine. it's an empty canister with a zone fifty logo on the side.
Cuttlefish 15th Nov 2017, 7:53 PM edit delete reply
Shoot you are totally right, and I completely missed that! An empty Zone 50 cannister is so much worse... oh dear :(

As long as we're here, we ought to check out the chalkboard. We can't take for granted that we'll be able to come back here.

Oh dear. I just remembered stories about Electro-magnetic Phantoms.

Like where you can only see them with a digital camera, and their cries have to be recorded and viewed at different speeds to hear them.

EVP I think it's called.

What if the hats didn't work and whatever was trying to scramble your thoughts now controls your perceptions?
