You send a raven to follow Fuse and Caius. You set your blood alarm to tell you if your friends seem to be getting into any sort of trouble--more specifically, if Fuse's emotions start to rile up.

You cleantex Dr. Finch, and tell him, so that he can work on reassembling his notes... and just in general have an easier time with all the research he's working on.

You check on Macland Row.

"I could save him," Carpenter says, his voice breaking up through the hospital television. "I can figure out what that witch has done to him."

Gesenai Shirai stares at the vacant expression of Macland Row. "I don't believe you," she says. "And I don't trust you. You're just going to turn him into a guinea pig."

"Arvin has been extremely supportive of Macland through all of this," Knox says. "He did everything he can to--"

"Bullshit!," Shirai shouts, turning to face the scarred bodyguard. Her voice echoes in the small hospital room. She steps up to Knox, close enough that it looks like she could hit him. "You were supposed to do everything you could to protect Macland. Arvin is a sociopath, and if you let Macland anywhere near that fat bastard then you're just as guilty as everyone else."

"Arvin is only trying to help--"

"Is he?!," Shirai shouts, leaning her face closer to Knox's. "He's been playing all of us since the start! He's never been concerned about business or this city, he's just been turning everything into some kind of sick game--"

It's at this point that Shirai is cut off. As she spoke, Arvin Carpenter began to giggle; it was mostly restrained, but as the seconds ticked by, his laughter became louder and more pronounced until it drowned out Gesenai. She stops, turning to stare at the screen.

"Sorry, sorry," Carpenter says, trying to stifle his laughter. "It was good, but I really lost it at concerned about business. Look, Gessie-poo... someone is trying to kill you. She wants to kill you, and me, and that big idiot in the sunglasses, and Mackers, and eeeverybody else you might hold any semblance of an attachment to. You can let me do what I do, and I can get the Mac back on his feet. Or, you can keep waiting for him to come out of his magical mystery coma on his own, while some abhorrent fiend in human skin hunts us all down one by one. That's your call, sweetie."

... can Jane suddenly make Macland say "Bullshit" ?

Cause I kinda want Gesenai to keep doubting Arvin.
Blue_Elite 1st Nov 2017, 11:03 PM edit delete reply
If anything that'd make Arvin's story even more believable. Macland is effectively a corpse right now. If we do anything with the body without actually healing him, it'll come off as voodoo mystery magic and might scare Gesenai into agreeing with Arvin.

So... we start healing him?

Man it would have been nice to have had the opportunity to talk to Gesenai. But yeah, Carpenter is full of shit... and is the only one in that conversation I wouldn't be against offing. That ass is Ghetsis levels of shit. That said, I would prefer it if we can keep killing to a minimum.

But you won't hear me suggesting we don't kill _him_.

i second seeing if we can make macland say bullshit that and or seeing if we can call or get a face to face at the hospital its risky as all hell but if we can flip gesenai i really do think its worth the risk if for no other reason then to fuck with carpenters bullshit.

.... we really need to drop Shirai a line somehow. Something with a note.... perhaps a transcript of their whole conversation with all of carpetner's sentences changed to something like"BS BS BS more manipulative Bs, IT was the "security measures" he put in Mac's head that reduced him to a vegetable I just wanted fucking answers!"... or maybe all our input would be done in red pen like some teacher correcting misspelled work or something. Also a p.s. about how we never even knew anything about any of them till we started digging into people connected to the whole hospital incident because we wanted to know who the fuck wanted us dead when we hadn't even done anything! Also something about world domination being too much of a general headache to bother with.... as well as liking being a signular entity instead of a hivemind like whoever's in control of queen is trying to become.

That sort of thing. kinda wondering how we could get that message to her...

Jury could probably ask for an audience for federal business. Gesenai would probably refuse, but hinting about info about Macland's current status might help her reconsider.

If he fully revives, would cleantexing Macland make him remember this? Unconscious awareness and all that.
Blue_Elite 1st Nov 2017, 11:09 PM edit delete reply
He would remember us syringing him and putting him through his own personal Hell. IF (and that's a big if) we want to get on Macland's good side, we should use blood abilities on him as little as possible and try to arrange a face-to-face talk (which, as goes with not using blood abilities, would require his agreement to the meeting).

Speaking of Mars...

Apparently we can send our name on a shuttle trip to Mars via NASA.

Today is the last day... but there might be more trips later.

Really, REALLY against using blood abilities with Carpenter around. Right now he doesn't know the full scope of what we can do; and it'd be a really bad idea to reveal abilities to him that he can analyze and possibly counter (or worse gets ahold of our blood in Macland and starts experimenting with it).

If we really want to try and get Gesenai neutral to us (I doubt we'd be able to get her as an ally), using a third party like Jury to arrange a meeting would probably be the best we can do currently. The more human we come off as the easier it'd be to convince her she's being played and just drop out of this whole situation.

Otherwise I guess like, next scene as seemingly we're preoccupied helping Dr. Finch while waiting for Fuse and Caius. Perhaps check on what Michelle is doing if that's not being nosey?

Maybe our note left on the Not!Michelle reached Shirai after all. Seems like she's pretty on edge, too.

I don't know if she's going to try and make a decision right now on Macland's behalf, but if it *does* go down to passing Macland over to Carpenter, we could actually stay on Macland and basically 'follow' him back to wherever Carpenter is. It would confirm whether the intel Jury got on Carpenter's hideout was anywhere near legit, and we'd get a lock on Carpenter's current location.

In any case, dissension in the enemy ranks can only be a good thing to us, but it does seem like just a few more good nudges might push Shirai out of wanting to tango with Carpenter at all. She seems to genuinely care about Macland after all. Maybe she'll smuggle him out of the city and go live on an island somewhere or something.

By the way, Carpenter is just the most annoying sod, even with people who he's supposed to be working with. -v-;;;;; Every time he appears I want to just shut him off, a remarkably excellent villain, but gosh he pushes all my buttons XD

EDIT: If nothing happens with Macland, I'm still going to go with my previous set of suggestions - not all of them, mind, but still productive ways to spend the time. Figuring out what's outside Bunker C, reading books on life extension, hanging out with Michelle, that sort of thing. Also electric impulse exploration if possible. -v- Hehe.

Perhaps it did. Or perhaps Shirai's just been on edge ever since we managed to compromise Elegance. I'd imagine the current situation with Macland and her failed raid on Finch's place probably wouldn't help matters, either. That aside... I certainly won't discard the possibility of the note having reached her and simply agree that this current state of general dissent is good. Certainly won't mind if we can more properly get those two out of the picture, in any case.

As for Carpenter... I'm simultaneously looking forward to and sort of dreading our next encounter with him, if only because of half the shit he could do. He does irk me somewhat, though I'm more... fascinated by the guy. I want to know what his stake in this whole shitshow is, and if it's anything deeper than satisfying his own curiosity or just being allowed to commit as many staggering crimes against humanity as he wants.

Regardless... I honestly doubt he buys his own argument. Wouldn't be surprised if he's trying to use the fact that Shirai has probably been on edge for the past few days, on top of her inability to think things through, and is trying to capitalize on those weaknesses with fear-mongering. Definitely seems like the kind of guy that'd have fun doing that.

... am i the only one who finds it really odd that knox is referring to carpenter by his first name, consistently, and vigorously defending the man he ought to know fucked with mack's head? i mean... he was in the room. he knows what it was carpenter did. maybe not the true extent, but he would probably be aware that something about the whole deal was hinky.
Akasha 2nd Nov 2017, 1:38 AM edit delete reply
Okay, yeah. That's... pretty fuckin' fishy, honestly. Doesn't help that he's not at all what I'd expect some scar-faced chucklefuck who's trying too hard to be cool to sound like, either. I rather hope Shirai spots the thread there. Though, given how she is, I wouldn't be surprised if she's a bit too caught up in her own fury to notice.
PurpleKetchup 2nd Nov 2017, 1:46 AM edit delete reply
From what I understood he's Queened, so there's a lot that would explain this behaviour.
Mochi 2nd Nov 2017, 1:51 AM edit delete reply
yeah that was kind of where my train of thought ended up.
Akasha 2nd Nov 2017, 2:02 AM edit delete reply
I think it was only ever really implied. But, at this juncture? Yeah, there's no way he isn't Queened to high hell.
rufiangel 2nd Nov 2017, 2:03 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, that crossed my mind, too. "Arvin", "Arvin". You'd think they're best buds or something!
