Using a petri dish, you decide to try mixing your blood with the plant blood.

You add a small amount of your blood, and Dr. Finch takes a closer look at the results.

"That... is interesting," he says.

"What?," asks Michelle.

Dr. Finch hesitantly withdraws from the microscope. "The blood's behavior in response to the new blood was... odd, visually. I stated that the cells from the plant aren't folding correctly, yes? Yes. They seemed to be attempting to impersonate conventional human blood cells but not, er, quite getting there." Dr. Finch turns to you. "Your cells immediately folded into A positive cells upon drawing near the half-folded plant cells."

"The hell does that mean?," asks Fuse.

"If... if if if I were to speculate, I believe..." Dr. Finch takes a moment to choose his words. "The artificial Mars blood inside the plant was attempting to imitate A positive human blood but failed."

"I'm not a scientist or anything," Michelle says, "but I've listened to a bunch of these rants about blood. Alien blood should only be foldin' to copy human blood, right? Not, like... plant blood...?"

"Plants don't even have blood," Fuse says. "Not like that, anyway."

"All the blood I've tested previously did no specific folding when inside an inanimate object, or when otherwise isolated from proper human blood. Previous blood experiments showed a certain 'default fold' that leaves the extraterrestrial blood ready for emulation but otherwise unreadable by normal means--a sort of 'type zero' or 'type nothing.' This blood, from the plant, isn't doing that... on comparison it is most definitely a botched type A imitation."

"Maybe tha blood just got confused," Caius says. "Didn't know what to do inside a plant."

"Or," Dr. Finch says with a slight pause, "...Somewhere in that plant is human blood, which even after all this time the poorly manufactured Mars blood is failing to properly imitate."

Dr. Finch puts a lid on the petri dish, securing your blood as 'inside' it. You feel yourself in control of the petri dish, confirming that you can blood the bad-fake Mars blood. You express this to Dr. Finch, who nods.

"The real concern will be the size of the plant--it is unlikely to receive signals from your blood cells like a human brain does, which means the plant will be more akin to an inanimate object. Taking full control of it may require a large quantity of blood, based on its size."

So blooding isn't an option, and I'd prefer not trying to destroy it until we know for sure it's hostile.
So... Go out and buy some cameras if the coast is clear outside?
Archon 31st Oct 2017, 6:20 PM edit delete reply
Giving it some more thought, should grab some pipes and debris alongside the cameras. Maybe some loose cloth if it can be managed.

Not necessary to grab, but it would come in handy for later. And yes, I do have a plan for this stuff.

Sense the format of BiM doesn't really allow for holiday comics and such I made my own.

Jane is a (pink) cat
Rat/Raven are kittens (because Jane's a cat/irony)
Baby Red is wearing a beagle puss (a.k.a. Groucho glasses)
Caius is a dog (mascot costume, lab meat isn't "most" for "one-size-fits-most")
Michelle is a bear (going with blue=black)
Dr. Finch is a sparrow!... nah he's a finch
Fuse is a dragon (alligator costume with wings tacked on)

EDIT: 2 points to note: it's animal themed just to have a theme and they're at Jane's house because the lighting it better than the bunker. :P

This is super sweet, Blue Elite! XD I love that you even dressed up the animals, LOL <3 Jane as kitty is my favourite <3 though I have to say that Fuse with the alligator hair just made me crack upppp XDD (Also that Baby Red with the Groucho glasses is too cute XDD)

Hope you had a swell H'ween! :D

It took me a little longer than I'd planned, and somebody sort of beat me to it (lol), but

Kyaaaah XD <3

Let's see... Michelle is the Terminator yes? XD She looks awesome. <3 Princess Peach!Jane is adorable <333 Fuse as a Green Power Ranger just made me laugh, dangit XD I'm also just guessing here, but... Caius is King Pin? Regardless of whether that's right or not, he's looking swellll :D

I don't know who Dr. Finch is dressing up as, my reference-fu is too low in level :< but that beard is... quite becoming O_O LOL

Happy H'ween, Matt <3 hope you're having a lovely time of it!

I did worry a bit about Dr. Finch's being a tad obscure (though that might be appropriate for Dr. Finch), or my sprite work not quite doing it justice. In retrospect, I should have given him a crowbar.
Steve 31st Oct 2017, 9:35 PM edit delete reply
I for one, instantly recognized Gordon.
rufiangel 31st Oct 2017, 9:54 PM edit delete reply
I can assure you MM-senpai that it's definitely my low-level reference-fu because I have no idea who that is XD;;; but but but! I also think it makes sense that Dr. Finch would pick that one costume he would painstakingly put the details for together to accurately reflect the character, and then get all the wrong guesses at the party much to his ire XD ("Oh, I get it! You're a Ghostbuster, right?" "No no no -_-")

That is a nice HEV suit he's wearing.

Rufi, it's a character from Half Life. A rather well known game. This is just you.
Mochi 31st Oct 2017, 10:31 PM edit delete reply
that was a little rude.
rufiangel 31st Oct 2017, 10:50 PM edit delete reply
It's okay Mochi-yan <3 it's true, it is just me XD;;; you won't believe how many references people drop on me that I just completely have no clue about, even if it's exceedingly popular. I feel bad I momentarily made senpai feel like maybe it was his sprite work because it totally wasn't, it was just my heathen braaain XD;;;;
Blue_Elite 31st Oct 2017, 10:44 PM edit delete reply
Terribly sorry to upstage you. I genuinely did not think there was a way for you to have a Halloween special.
Hindsight on my part as you've posted in your own comments before. >_>

Anyway, nice work as always. I got Gordon Freeman but my guess for Caius was Saint's Row. XD
Morgenstern 31st Oct 2017, 10:55 PM edit delete reply
@Blue: XD It's all good, there's plenty of room in the comments section. Maybe I'll make a contest or something out of it next time.

@Steve: I wouldn't call Half Life obscure but it's no Mickey Mouse. I definitely don't fault anybody for not getting the reference.

Human blood inside the plant, huh... either that, or the prototype bio-printed blood was made with a specific purpose - to replicate blood type A positive.

Or... we're going to find a reeeeally weird situation in that blood jungle. Like a human body interspersed with blood plant vines in that blood jungle room who happens to be a blood type A positive. >__> Maybe.

Better be extra careful when treading back into that room to check on the wiring, which is what I'd like to suggest we do. I mean, we never know what the heck we're going to find...

If we do a Lower Tiers camera run, I would have Fuse also go ahead and grab that flatscreen he suggested as a bonus so we can stream whatever is on the camera. Also, have Fuse grab anything else he needs for a potential hack into S.Pass's network.

I'd like to suggest he take Michelle or Caius with him just in case, though he might also be better off on his own since he's slippery like that. Maybe he can make that judgment call, whether he wants a muscly friend with him or not. XD;
Blue_Elite 31st Oct 2017, 10:56 PM edit delete reply
Given what a "Great deal" means for the lower-tiers, if we can use our computer monitor instead of getting the flat screen it'd be preferred.

Also something to note is we'd have to setup the system in Bunker D. I'm going to guess the latency from Mars to Earth is pretty awful to work remotely.
Actually, could we just hijack the computer already at Bunker D and turn that into the remote control station?

In any case picking up a camera is most definitely the next step. I still want to wait for a response from Jury before tackling the drug dealer.
If we're not personally needed for the trip, we could try to practice some more meditation. Sense we keep defaulting to cats anyway maybe we could use that as a thought-focus to clear our mind.
rufiangel 31st Oct 2017, 11:45 PM edit delete reply
I thought we'd be using the camera thing for more than just the blood jungle, like a separate set up specifically for sneaky surveillance, since we were talking about getting more than one. I think if Fuse suggested it, then he probably has a good idea of where to go to get a flatscreen without raising too much of a ruckus? If he's going to get cameras anyway, I don't think it'd be too out of the way. Just my two cents. -v-)/
