Caius keeps his distance, but takes a closer look at the plants coming out of the left door. He squints a bit as he leans in.

"That's, uh... yeah, that's blood. It don't look like it's on tha vines, though... it's like it's just under tha skin. Do plants got skin? Whatever, it's part of it."

You suggest he checks through the right door instead. Caius obliges, and walks into the room to the right.

"Looks like some kinda electrical room," he says. "Prob'ly for flippin' tha breakers or what have ya. I ain't as much an electrician as I am a plumber, I don't think."

VEEEEEEENT!!!!! Also, we need to test out what happens when we blood plants.

While we're here, let's have Caius check the box just to make sure, peek inside the vent... and have Michelle re-key in the door to bunker D, and see what happens if we open the door on _this side_ of it. will it put us out on the other side of the wall? Or just not open?

You have been subscribed to DoorFacts!

Stats this door likely has, based on the iron door statistics from the DnD 3.5e Dungeon Master's Guide (annoyingly, I discovered that the 5e DMG doesn't have full door stats, which I only discovered in the middle of running a session grrr):

Hardness: 10
Hit Points: 60
Strength DC to break (or open if stuck): 28

More DoorFacts:

Did you know that your brain compartmentalizes information in a way that's partially influenced by your physical location? This is why you sometimes forget things when going into another room-- when you walk through a door, the brain takes that as a cue to shift to a different compartment!

When you go into a room to look for something, try thinking of the object while stepping through the door, so you don't forget what it was you were looking for!

Oh my god are they using plants to grow Mars blood?
Twyll 24th Oct 2017, 9:46 PM edit delete reply
They might be using blood to grow Mars plants.

I don't think the plants can *make* more blood (or else the world would already probably have ended, given that one of the only things keeping the blood's powers in check are how little of it there is). So they're probably just kinda redistributing it throughout their own vascular system, possibly to test what effects the blood has. Alternatively, the Mars blood might have gotten contaminated with plant seeds somehow, although one would hope they weren't *that* careless.

Oh dear. Looks like a plant might've gotten into the Mars blood. Or the Mars blood got into a plant. Either way, it's now a giant bloodplant full of blood that hates us. Not exactly an excellent thing to have in our Mars basement.

...Okay, so that's blood in the plants? What the shit? At this juncture, I'm tempted to give Caius a syringe and ask him to get a sample of that plant's blood, but at the same time... Eeehh. Kinda don't want to chance it. Anyways, yeah. Check the vent. Probably no real reason to mess with the electrics. Not yet, anyways.

Zone 50 might have been using the plants for testing how the Mars blood interacts with living organisms. Plants do have a vascular system, and in some plants it can be very easy to see, so it would be relatively easy to see the blood moving through the plant.

It's interesting, though, that the blood isn't attempting to disguise itself as sap (which is the equivalent of plant-blood I guess?). Maybe it can't; maybe sap is too far-removed from blood to trigger the blood to do its foldy-bendy thing, even if it serves a similar general function to blood.

We can have Dr. Finch do an inspection later (which will also give us time to see if the plants are still growing or not).

Definitely will want to draw blood for a sample eventually but I'd rather wait until we've exhausted considering if this area is important or not (in case taking said blood sample results in some very, very agitated plant monsters).

Check the vent, take a look at that orange cable (does it look like it's about to snap? it looks like it's fraying or something. that yellow cable looks like it has a tear starting in it, too?) and then, uh, let's get right back up and out of here because that Mars blood plant thing is horrendous and we really shouldn't be hanging about anywhere near that thing.

Oh this is an after-fact note.
The door is to our right, but Caius's left.

So really we've sent him to the left.

I mean... if you cared about such nonsense. Not that anyone does or anything.
