You send your nearest raven--the one that was watching this street--to discreetly pursue the armored vehicle and see where it's heading. You also explain what's going on to Dr. Finch.

Everyone enters Bunker D, and you go to meet them. You stumble a bit, your balance thrown off by the existence of two "inner ears;" you suspect it might take some time to adjust to. Dr. Finch helps you walk to the main room.

Michelle starts to fill you in, but you tell her you caught the gist of it. The question now is what to do about it.

"One of us oughta call Jury," Caius says.

"And Lydia," Michelle adds. "She might not know what to do, but gettin' word around couldn't hurt. Whatever these psychos are plannin', it shouldn't be kept under wraps."

"We need to finish delivering all the junk, too," Fuse says. "We just kinda... dumped it by the door. We were going to put it all up for them, but then the thing happened."

You ask how bad the situation is, currently.

"It was just one armored car," Michelle says. "They prob'ly ain't plannin' to go in guns blazin' just yet. Might just be lookin' to scout the lower tiers out."

"The news made it sound like Reigns wants tougher law enforcement down there," Fuse says. "They might not want to go full demo, but a stronger police presence might be code for kill everyone, I don't speak Rich Asshole. Even if it just starts as military police, though... I know how stuff like this goes in the lower tiers. It'll turn into a full blown war. Prophet was getting guys to mobilize and do riots... even with him gone, there's probably still some organization. They won't take straight up fascism sitting down."

"Y'think Thale's in on this?," Caius asks. "Like, is Reigns on Queen? They in cahoots, maybe?"

Dr. Finch shakes his head. "This is a fairly risky power play if Thale's behind it. The riots and the like were getting worse up until the point that Prophet died... but without him around to orchestrate grander scale violence, the public at large may sympathize with the lower tiers rather than support military action. Thale has more or less kept his cards close to his chest in matters that didn't directly involve us... subtlety is how he's kept the game going for so long, and risen as high as he has. Bringing in mercenaries jeopardizes his progress."

"So this might just be Theodore Reigns gettin' too big for his britches," Michelle suggests.

Dr. Finch nods. "The rhetoric he spews in public appearances fits this sort of behavior. He phrases it in a more consumable way, but he's always been in favor of a heavily militarized police state forcing the poor beneath its heel. The things Prophet and company were doing may have spurred him into finally putting his money where his mouth is."

"Huh," Caius starts, scratching his head. "I'm kinda wonderin' how Thale's gonna react to this, then. He might not want Reigns stirrin' it up too much."

"Or," Fuse says, "he may take this opportunity to try and spread Queen to the PMCs. Thale getting control of Southern Pass would be a total nightmare."

In unrelated news, I have begun a Kickstarter for the first expansion to my roleplaying system. Even if you're not interested, or you can't/don't want to help fund it... please, I am asking you sincerely, spread the word about it. Tell people. Share this. This is kind of a huge deal, and whether or not this Kickstarter succeeds will sort of alter the trajectory of my writing career for the next few months.

I'm not real comfortable doing Kickstarters, and I am absolutely terrified. Here's the link to the original book, for those that haven't seen it.

(No pressure though)

Yeah, I did think maybe having two sets of ears might throw us off a little, I hope it doesn't throw us off our game for too long. :'D

Hmm, so we probably have a little more time to try and figure things out from our end. We can't let the class war trigger, it'll be a complete nightmare if we do. It's exactly what Thale wants.

Can we go through what Lydia's server has to offer, see if in combination with our own evidence, we have enough to blow the lid off just enough to get the middle tiers riled up in the lower tiers' favour? And of course get in touch with Lydia herself, if we can.

I think we need to know where the PMC is headed to get a better idea of just how organised this strike is and how likely it is Southern Pass'll get queened. Because Thale's already bad enough without a friggin' personal military unit under his many thumbs.

(I suppose Bunker B can wait for a bit while we try to get a better idea of what's going on, though if it turns out we need to wait for the raven to finish tailing that tank we might as well spend the time bringing the supplies through to the Inities.)

Having two whole balance systems might work out even better in the long run, though-- might make us have really good balance, if we can get adjusted to it properly.

We should probably have Fuse do some poking around the Internet to see what he can find on the subject of Southern Pass, in addition to contacting Lydia and seeing what she has.

Also, wishing you the best of luck with the Kickstarter, MM! :) I'll try to help promote it too~

Not very well off at the moment, but I do like GAG (and I've got the physical version in sight in my room), so I've gone the $5 support route. Any chance of getting GAG: ORDER in physical format too?

As for the comic - piggyback on Fuse's idea. Get OUR blood into Southern Pass somehow - treat them like Macland. That is, don't overtly control them overmuch, nor get them in our group, but immunize them to STQ.

I'm definitely considering a physical release for GAG: ORDER (if for no other reason than I like having books), but it'll be sometime after the "regular" release. Print on demand is weird, colors need to be setup a certain way which could goof the whole thing up (the color of the art between PDF and print GAG is ever so slightly different in places), and I don't even want to begin puzzling out shipping costs + Kickstarter math.

Nah, I still think helping bunker B is more important right now. Give them the hardware they asked. Contact Jury and Lydia so they handle the public stuff.

Then we need to find where the hell they produce the Queen. It's time to kill their supply. Carpenter is probably involved, geh.

Oof, well... Hopefully the thing with two sets of ears won't mess us up too badly. I'd ask about maybe seeing if we could tweak them a bit so as to make it easier to adjust, but I'm guessing that's not exactly a thing that can be done? Maybe? Iunno.

In any case... yeah, there's no way anything good is gonna come of this if we just let them do as they please, or, hell, get Queened by Thale, for that matter. That much is obvious. Especially if they have lab meat of their own, because, uh. Y'know that laser cannon Michelle had back in Chapter 1? Yeah, we could be seein' more of those. Pointed at us. That'll be fun. In any case... I'm seconding rufi's suggestion of looking through Lydia's server to see what she's got. Oh! And to upload the hospital footage, as I don't think we've done that yet? Also, it may be a good idea to set a blood alarm for that particular raven such as when it sees the APC reach its destination or smth.

Either way, as for who calls who, Caius can call Jury, while Finch can call Lydia. If we've got time, then maybe Fuse and Michelle can start delivering those parts to bunker B?

"You decide to keep the extra... ear function, in your chest, just in case. You can disable it with your blood if it turns out your brain can't adapt, but for now you suspect the redundancy might not be a bad idea."
Not sure about tweaking but we can flip the ability on/off like a light switch. Worse comes to worse we just turn it off and keep them in reserve just in case our hearing gets messed up again.

Yeah, I know that's a thing, but I figured that it wouldn't hurt to practice some more precise manipulation with our blood, but... Eh. Not the biggest deal if that can't be managed.
Blue_Elite 21st Oct 2017, 5:39 AM edit delete reply
I'm all for practice but let's definitely wait until we're not pressured or in a crisis situation.

I was thinking we could first try and get the meditation thing down, then work on control while in a focused state.
Blue_Elite 21st Oct 2017, 4:42 AM edit delete reply
I was thinking we could have the meat do the delivery process. If we have both Michelle and Caius on that ideally they could get done by the time we're done with the phone calls.

On that note Fuse should probably contact Lydia at the same time he can check her server.

That leaves Dr Finch and ourself. I'd say have Dr Finch do the call to Jury and we focus on the raven tailing the APC. If we can get a license plate number (just in case) that'd be nice as well.

I agree with everything you just said, except calling Caius and Michelle "the meat".
It seems impersonal, and they are precious to us.

yeah, they’re not “meat”. they’re friends we’ve fought pretty hard for. calling them “the meat” kind of goes against the whole “value every person equally” mentality we’ve got going.

Heh, I meant, "the muscle". Completely forgot "lab meat" is a real slur in this world sorry. DX

Random idea that occurred to me. Can Fuse hack into Southern Pass's network? -v-? If it's kind of hard to go in blind, then if we follow where the tanks are at with the raven and kind of sneak about, could we get enough information for him to at least try?

Southern Pass might have military grade security, but it's worth a try. If we're scared of being tracked back, hack them from Mars and they won't be able to track us LOL

Can just picture Shirai's reaction to this. 'What do you Mean there's a PMC wreaking havoc through the lower tiers?! I have warehouses down there!' If of course she wasn't the one who hired them in the first place.

For the book, thought of putting it up on BackerClub or Indigogo?

he already has it set up on kickstarter. why would he set up the same campaign on multiple crowdfunding sources? there's probably rules against that kind of thing.

matt!! thanks for reminding me that GAG exists! it delighted the fuck out of me when i first read about it probably a couple months ago, and i'm even more delighted by what's proposed in the expansion! i meant to pick it up when you first mentioned it to me but promptly forgot. now that i've been reminded, i've ordered a copy~

i'll be backing the kickstarter for sure, once i decide what tier i want to pledge to.

Light is a very versatile element. It can assist or hinder in many ways. For example penetrating radiation can affect the cells of a living thing causing it to slow down, or it can deliver energy to the cell causing them to speed up. It can burn, because infra-red is a spectrum of light associated with heat.
Not only that, but it can interfere with and generate sound. (You can see a laser playing Aperature Science on YouTube).

Hence light is able to not only mess with the body, but the hearing and vision of a subject as well.
