While Dr. Finch works on you, you thank him for his hard work.

You tell Michelle and Fuse they can check out the basement if they're not too cold. They stare at each other for a second, Fuse finally breaking the silence.

"I'm not gonna chicken out if you're not."

Michelle smiles. "Well, I'm not backin' out first, either, so... I guess we're goin' down there."

They make their way down the hall to the ladder. Michelle takes a deep breath, and exhales slowly.

"We have seen enough shit," she says. "There is nothin' down there that could be worse than what we've seen already."

Fuse actually laughs, holding a hand up. "Do not. Do not even say that. That is... the last thing you need to be saying. Now we're gonna like... see our own faces down there, or something."

Michelle climbs down the ladder first, then Fuse.

"I'll say this," Fuse begins. "I was good upstairs, but it's stupid cold down here."

"Seriously," Michelle replies. "Looks like the glass is fogged over worse here, too, but if I wipe it off--"

"Your own face. I'm calling it now," Fuse interjects. "We're gonna be in these tubes somehow. That's the creepiest thing I can think of."

Michelle chuckles... but stops short of actually wiping the glass off.

Looks like Lasker grew thin AND big.
Fuse was able to take the horror thing in Macland's mindscape, and Michelle went through the hospital.
They should be able to stay mostly sane if they see him.

Don't tarry too much down there.

(okay we need to get out of here NOW and get the Inities the supplies they need so they can keep Lasker locked up as long as possible)

(who wants to bet that the other folks in the tubes upstairs are the results of having the Mars blood and StQ at the same time?)

@Twyll: It took me a second to get the 'Inities' XD <3 hehehe

Gtfo of there before the new Red detects us
Twyll 19th Oct 2017, 12:36 AM edit delete reply
I think this qualifies as the *old* red, since Lasker was here before we were born.
Twyll 19th Oct 2017, 12:38 AM edit delete reply
Right then, let's, uh, let's hope Fuse and Michelle haven't noticed and basically panic and get them back up the ladder reeeeeeaal quick-like. We might even need to manipulate them a little bit to get them out of there as fast as possible, in the interest of not blasting their sanity with eldritch things that also happen to be *right behind the ladder they need to use to GTFO.* They'll understand I hope.

I'm wondering if Michelle actually paused short of wiping off the glass because she noticed the teeth? :'D

Just a general comment on this update to say, it's been a while since we've seen just Fuse and Michelle interact, and as always I just adore their dynamic. XD They're such cute besties, look at the chicken game they play XDD and just... just everything they say to each other, it's great XDDD <3 I will sail on this friendship-ship forever.

(EDIT: Also, I am happy we thanked the good doctor. Good man, Dr. Finch.)

okay seriously though i'm really beginning to question the minds behind this one. like, someone in the higher ups (perhaps even the highest up) in zone fifty thought it would be a great idea to leave the giant, world-ending alien monstrosity frozen in the basement of a secret bunker with nothing but twelve robots looking after it and hoped that would be good enough. and then proceeded to abandon it for a century. surely nothing important in this facility could break in the foreseeable future! the robots aren't going to run out of robots to cannibalize! i mean i guess the alternative was to trust their successors with the giant world-ending alien monstrosity and hope no one would think it'd be fun to wake it up and ask it how it felt about destroying humanity now, but jesus.

Maybe there just weren't enough people who were in on the truth? Everything was a need-to-know basis in Z50, so perhaps what happened was a result of sheer lack of connectivity in their communications. Like, the people who were in charge of setting these androids here - programming them and such - may not have even known what this place was for, and hence why the androids themselves can only insist the place must exist, because they aren't programmed with the full understanding of *why*. And the people who may have been in charge of maintaining the androids or the bunker itself may not have known at all about the cause and purpose of the facility, and therefore when Z50 was disbanded, didn't recognise the importance of organising some kind of sustained facilitation for it. Either that or they're all jerks who thought 'well this facility will last at least 100 years and we'll be long dead by then so it'll be someone else's problem, suckers'. -v-;;;;

ahahahaha WELP

We all kinda had a feeling this involved Lasker in some capacity, but. Ah. Fuck. Fuuuuuck. Bastard even did manage to develop a Red of his own, too. Great! Absolutely fantastic! Probably one of the literal absolute last things I wanted to have confirmed, even. At least it looks to be inert, though.

Th' fuck were they expecting to come of this though? For everything in cold storage to have died by now? Maybe they were figuring The Twelve could've gone beyond their programming and started more actively trying to figure out how to deal with the problem outside of just indefinitely keeping it contained? I know Z50's one of those cases of the left hand not being able to see what the right is doing, but come ON. There had to be some fuckin' god damn shadowy Overseer of the fuckin Council of Assholes or whatever that'd have had the good god damn sense to figure out something more long-term for this outside of 'hey just making sure no one else finds it so that the only thing that'll lead to the eventual up-fucking of everything ever is just straight-up inertia through lack of proper maintenance will be enough, right?'. I swear, there better be more to this than just 'nobody had a permanent solution so we chose to do nothing instead of further support the current infrastructure' or just 'lol, bureaucracy' I'm going to suplex a nuclear submarine* into the head of Z50's face if they're still alive.

In short: -Akasha screams externally, eternally.-

*: I know that's actually impossible but just saying 'I'll be immensely cross at them just feels a bit lackluster.'
Twyll 19th Oct 2017, 1:24 AM edit delete reply
If Sabin can suplex a train, you can suplex a submarine! I believe in you!

Sometimes, I have moments and just start saying words. Occasionally, they make sense and ultimately culminate in something pretty good and kinda ridiculous. Other time it's just... that whole mess.

Anyways, I'm glad you liked that moment of me losing my composure, abusing emphasis, and forgetting to properly close a phrase. I'm not sure why it came to me like that in this particular case, but I guess everything coming together in the way it does just kinda... hit something.
rufiangel 19th Oct 2017, 2:15 AM edit delete reply

I wouldn't be surprised if this was really just lost in the long trail of burnt and forgotten paperwork somewhere along the course of the past century.

(Or we might get a rather shocking surprise visit from a not-so-dead Z50 head to the bunker location in a bit?)

Anyway, my moment of slowly losing my fucking mind aside, just, friggin'... wipe the glass to confirm that it's the meatbomination we're expecting. Then promptly fuck off on out of there, because I really don't want to chance the Red suddenly waking up even though it looks like it's been pretty well and properly frozen. Ugh.
Twyll 19th Oct 2017, 1:21 AM edit delete reply
Let's not even touch the glass. I think we have enough working knowledge of reds to be able to identify a red smile based on what we can already see (read: I went back to a page with Mom's red to confirm that the pixels match up and yup, they do-- and Jane has spent a lot more time with her mom's red than I have, so she should be able to confirm that too). I'm just, like, super-scared of wiping the glass prompting a jump scare, even though I know those aren't really a *thing* in comic form, but MM WOULD FIND A WAY

Also if it wakes the Mars red up, that would be... that would be real bad. So let's gtfo as quickly as possible.
Akasha 19th Oct 2017, 1:28 AM edit delete reply
Hell, even before seeing Mom's red we know what a red smile looks like just by virtue of our own Red having interacted with us back when she... wasn't as amicable, to say the least.

Also, MM has made panels that are gifs before, so it's more than possible for jump scares to be a thing. Either way, I don't mind what we do as far as the glass is concerned, my own preference aside.

Highly recommend Fuse and Michelle getting out of there. Even if there's no real danger, do keep in mind they gotta sleep and I'm not sure how well our blood abilities work against nightmares. :x

On a side note, let's consult with our red before going into Bunker B ourselves. Getting seriously worried about our presence activating a Mars-blood-fueled zombie apocalypse; especially if the facility isn't at 100% yet.
Nayru9572 19th Oct 2017, 1:28 PM edit delete reply
Ooh, good idea! And maybe wait for mom's red to get here as well: the more opinions the better, I think.

Anyways, let's just tell Fuse and Michelle to pretty please leave now.
