You think hard about the next step.

You decide that Michelle and Dr. Finch should go get material for the bio printer. Dr. Finch would know what to look for, and wouldn't seem suspicious buying it, and Michelle can protect Dr. Finch if anything happens.

You decide to take your small red to Bunker C to see if it reacts to the distance from its main body. You opt to take Fuse with you. You also give him more painkiller effect.

You ask Caius if he can go get food, as it's been a while since you've eaten.

You'll all reconvene here, in Bunker D, so you can try to get the bio printer working. Fuse gives copies of the Bunker D card to your party members.

You and Fuse return to Bunker C. Fuse is very quiet. You ask Baby Red if it's possible for it to connect to itself from here.

"Oh. Oh oh!," it says with a wiggle. "Place weird. But can. Not far."

part of me feels like we should talk to fuse about what happened but at the same time he’s really not one to discuss his feelings and prodding might make him angrier… maybe just ask him if he’s alright and leave it at that?

this is probably as good a place as any to pop baby red if its not far from the main body, i suppose. might as well let it do it’s thing. keep a close eye on everyone while we’re apart.

also, has the glowstick frozen in mid-air or is this panel just not animated?

It actually should be showing up as animated.

ah yes! it is on my desktop but not on my phone, how odd. also... it's begun spinning. which is even odder.

and... is it just me, or has it sped up?

edit: IT HAS SPED UP! i... might've dissected the gif timelines of this page and page 488 to assuage my curiosity. the frame with the glowstick absent is one second shorter on this page than it is on page 488. the glowstick is gaining speed as it loops.

Eh.. Portal physics really aren't very accurate. (the game)

Unless you have a distortion that can destroy gravity, and essentially reality, somewhere, it would stay a constant speed, because the top would slow it down, but the bottom would speed it up.

Gravity would be going both up and down here where the portals are at.

Cause at the top there would be an entire planet's worth of gravity coming from above it. But at the bottom, there would only be one gravity well down, cause the portal would block a secondary gravity implement, as the gravity would be coming from the side.

this is a work of fiction where we have weird interdimentional doors and bunkers on mars and we control people who have our blood with our mind. physics don't make sense in this room, this room doesn't make sense in reality. it doesn't have to. it's fictional.

Uh... that's really not how story creation works.

First of all you have to start with a template of rules. You can bend snap or destroy anything within that template, but then your story's world has those alterations as it's truth.

So in essence, the story itself creates the rules for it's reality. But that means the reality has rules.

To just offhand say there are no rules because it's fictional, is... kind of an awkward process. Essentially, what you're saying is that we can ignore everything we've learned prior because none of that matters. But yet, that's not what you're saying at all.

So... yeah that's an incredibly vague statement.

From what I understand, their reality mirrors our own for physics etc, UNLESS directly stated otherwise.

I am a potato brain, and I often ramble. I realize this is another ramble, and so was my obsession with writing nonsense about the portals and their gravity equations.

So In the end I admit that I think I was being obstinate... I think that's the word? And will try to drop the non-sensi-dangliousous-ness about the gravity tunnel.

TLDR: Just read the bold sections.

I can understand respecting Fuse's usual boundaries and not prodding too hard, because he *is* a fairly reserved person in this regard.

But a part of me wonders if this might be a good chance to actually get him to talk about how he really feels. It never comes easy (and Jane herself is an incredibly repressed individual) but if venting it out a bit would help, I think Jane would be all (chest) ears.

Fuse isn't really mad at Jane, so I think she's maybe the exact right person to prod him about this. -v-)/

(Again, my two cents. I am scattering my two cents-es everywhere XD *flings*)

The glowstick is now spinning... which means either it's been drifting for one reason or another. Have I mentioned I like this place? PLANT THE RED!!! Sure, it's not being planted in a place that we can get to without leaving whichever bunker we choose... but the idea of a bottomless hole with a cosmic horror smiling out of the wall makes me stupidly happy.

It also seems like we should refresh that painkiller effect?

Reading this update, it looks like we already did?

Yep, had a feeling this place was gonna be our best candidate. If the most the little guy is getting is just the place being a tad odd, then... yeah, that's honestly the same feeling I had. May as well let the li'l bugger do it's thing.

But think about Mochi's avatar.
How will it survive if Lil Red redistributes?

First, let's ask Fuse if he wants a hug. Nothing more, just a hug. He probably won't want to talk about what just happened, but it lets him know we're there for him.

And regardless of his answer, change the subject to the glowstick afterwards. Discussing what has happened might take his mind off of it.

I'm all for hugs, though we'd have to set Baby Red down to do it XD;

I do think we can talk about this, though. For Jane in particular, the reason Fuse got so badly burnt in the first place was because he accompanied her to Macland's mind. He may have said it was all on him, but I doubt Jane fully agreed with that.

Besides that, the fact Fuse wouldn't tell her when he needed a painkiller is pretty bad. It implies that going forward we'd have to constantly worry whether or not he's actually telling us whether he needs one or not and we'd give him boosts just in case. Rather than that, Fuse should know that he can communicate and that it's actually much less trouble to just express his needs to us. It's no trouble at all, actually.

Just my two cents. -v-)/

(P.S. All for changing the subject to the glowstick after any potential talk or not-talk, though)

I imagine the reason the glow stick started spinning is because it started to drift to the side because gravity OR it hit the side of the tile and did so.

I had a feeling Fuse might be quiet.

I'd like to suggest very gently telling him that Caius may have been a bit blunt, but we also don't want Fuse to suffer silently. We know he's always, always putting other people first, and always takes on so much burden onto himself, but at the end of the day finding out that he's been 'acting tough' to avoid 'imposing' just breaks our heart. We know he finds it difficult to be vulnerable and admit he needs help, and we can't force that... But he should know he can trust us and that everyone genuinely cares about him. It's okay to prioritise him getting skin grafts because it's important. We've been putting it off because we couldn't before, but now we have a chance, Fuse shouldn't pretend it's not a big deal. Saying it wasn't was what annoyed Caius.

You're a big deal to us, Fuse.
