You explain the situation to Fuse and Dr. Finch, and you ask if something could be done about the lock.

"It... I..." Dr. Finch adjusts his glasses, barely able to get the words out. "So it's some manner of... of of of transdimensional pocket, or a portal, or--?"

"Dude," Fuse says with a grin. "Breathe. They don't know yet. Ask Michelle if she's seen a lock like that before."

You ask Michelle, and she nods. "Oh, yeah. That lock's old as hell. It's like three kinds of authentication, but I'm familiar with the style."

You relay that back to Fuse.

"Alright, cool," he says. "You're gonna have to go shopping, but I should be able to get through it. It might take a little longer than usual if we're not syncing, but between me, Michelle, and the internet, we oughta be able to make something. If the lock's that old, there might be schematics for that brand floating around somewhere."

"I just wonder," Dr. Finch mutters mostly to himself, "if they made the door to function in that manner or if they discovered an anomaly and just... built a door around it. There's been papers written about that style of phenomena being witnessed in brief instances and what it could mean scientifically but to think there's something like that in this city--"

Fuse just shakes his head. "There's a secret robot agent running around, and we've all got alien blood. I don't know how this is blowing your mind."

Fuse gives you a small list of items he'll probably need to start hacking the lock.

To be honest, I'm more curious as to what the hell is /sustaining/ the anomaly, given that Finch mentioned them being witnessed in brief instances. Mind, my guess would be that Z50 made a machine that either creates them or keeps them open indefinitely or something. But that's all just idle thoughts at this point.

More importantly, even if it does take a little longer than usual, it's probably best to lay off on syncing with Fuse for the moment. Let's just go over what we need, hit the places that're most likely to close the earliest/are closest and go from there.

Or... it could be that something tore open, and they just shoved a stick in the gap to keep it open.

Time to go shopping, then pick up bacon burner, and doctor hair dye.

I remember another military grade lock on a door to a transdimensional location.

It's in Jane's home's basement.
Guess her dad just grabbed a spare when he left.

Once we open one, maybe we should check out the other. Maybe they connect.

the door that’s being referred to is the door that leads to mom’s red, and it is already open.

Oh, I was thinking of the locked hospital doors for some reason.

Wait... same door as Mom's red..

Uh oh...

I hope it's not the entrance to the adversary's red. That could be bad, and Jury wouldn't be aware of the ... non-friendly relations between "not my bloods"...

A good point. In that case, it might be better if we send in the rat to check it out first. At the same time we could also strap a tracking device to its back to see if signals can pass through.

It's not exactly the same door, but the lock looks pretty similar.
Hence my guess at how it landed back home.

XD Can I just say how much I adore our group <3 it's so cute that Dr. Finch is mind-blown XD <33

I'm really happy we all have this new and fun mystery/puzzle to take up our attention for a second, it makes for a really lovely break from the usual enemies trying to skin us alive and all that. X3

Well, even if we do get jumped at least we'll have the brief moment of peaceful puzzle-solving getting there XD

That's why we have Caius open the door, so that way if some anomalous hostile is at the door, he can piledrive it into the ground, then jump back as Michelle blasts it in the face with her shotgun before it can go 'ayyy lmao' and try to uppercut Jane into the stratosphere or some shit

or something idk I'm only going to be concerned if there actually is something actually hostile on the other side, really.

Okay so once we go get the things, I guess we should head back to the motel to try and assemble what's necessary, so that Fuse has access to the Internet.

In the meanwhile, we probably should do another quick sweep across Macland and our animal companions, just to see if anything's out of place.

If not, I have a suggestion. While Fuse and Michelle are working on the lock bypass, why don't Caius and Jane sneakily head over to Dr. Finch's place in Jane's car, so Caius can get out and drive back Michelle's truck? Because five people (two of which are larger than average) packed into Jane's one car might be a bit tight. Is that an idea?

fuse is amazing <3 and i hope this base is super cool.

i don’t have much else to add, i think going and picking up michelle’s truck would be a good idea but we should be careful since we did just toss a government tracking device into finch’s house a couple hours ago, and we still don’t know if they’re watching the place.

Love this webcomic! So intriguing...thanks for putting this all out there, Morgenstern! I finally got caught up, so I feel like I wanna make a suggestion...

Hopefully Red isn't getting fed up with being asked all these questions, but I'd ask her about this phenomenon. Dimensional pocket nonsense seems to be her forte, and if it's connected to Zone Fifty, maybe THIS dimensional pocket's friendly...?
