You inform Michelle--and the others--that this may not be as dire as you first thought.

Caius puts the conversation on hold long enough to pay for a room, so he and Jury can continue the conversation in private. Once they're somewhere less visible, Caius picks things back up.

"So whaddya want her for, then, if you think Thale's behind all this?"

Jury shakes her head. "I'm not fully convinced Patton is at the top. His kids aren't his kids, his wife isn't his wife... I'm not going to rule out the thought that Patton Thale isn't Patton Thale, but he's the highest I can see from where I am in this case. I was originally sent to help investigate a new drug on the market--there was reason to believe it was being pushed onto the streets by a coalition of businesses. A single drug dealer is the city's business, but an alliance of companies with city-wide influence manufacturing drugs was enough to get federal attention."

"Lemme guess," says Caius. "Save the Queen?"

Jury nods. "The further I investigated, the stranger the case became. I thought at first it was just an attempt to destabilize the lower tiers, but I've since learned it may be--if you can believe this--part of a mind control scheme that began over a century ago. That those involved used the Tobu hack as a means of killing that nurse was intriguing enough--that's a huge risk of exposure they took just to eliminate one person--but what she's capable of makes things even more complicated."

"So what's your plan?," Caius asks. "You lookin' to arrest her, dissect her, what?"

Jury sighs. "That's part of the problem. A subsection of the people I work for do want to take her into custody for 'the public safety.' Another subsection does want to violate her rights--or lack thereof, as a possible non-human entity--to better understand what she is. My goals do not directly involve her, outside of how much she could possibly know regarding Patton Thale and Save the Queen. I recognize the bias and unprofessional agendas being played into by the rest of the department, in addition to the case being compromised by those either infected with the drug, or willingly aiding its distributors.

I just want to get Save the Queen off the street, and ensure that all those involved with it are brought to justice. To that end, the girl--whether it's really her, or some alien duplicate--is more useful to me alive, well, and out of the hands of those that want to abuse her abilities."

Caius gives it a moment of thought, nodding to himself as he mulls it all over. "Alright, alright... I'm with ya so far, but I got a question. What were you lookin' for in her house? I mean, really? 'Cuz we both know she wasn't gonna be hidin' in her parents' bedroom."

Jury finally breaks her gaze from Caius, glancing aside for an instant before locking eyes again. "Her father... he used to work for Zone Fifty. He disappeared under mysterious circumstances... and should have been much older in their family pictures. I was sidetracked from investigating the case--I attempted to piece together what had happened to him, how he had vanished under the government's nose, and what else he may have been hiding from beyond the grave. I'm sure it's not a coincidence that his daughter may have alien DNA."

"You're sure it was him? Like, you're positive it was tha same guy?," Caius asks.

"Yes," says Jury. "I have an eye for detail, and almost perfect memory. I know it was him because I've met him."

"How?," Caius asks, almost before she finishers the sentence.

Jury pauses. It was a momentary slip, but enough to reveal more than she intended. With no feasible way to back out of it now, she relents.

"I was originally built by Zone Fifty."

rufiangel 26th Sep 2017, 2:09 AM edit delete reply

Okay, I like her XD because now this all makes SO MUCH SENSE

EDIT: Alrighty. She was 'built' so yep, android confirmed~ (there you go PurpleKetchup, you can stop looking at me like that now XD)

But wow, she knew our dad? That's pretty cool. -v-

Hmm. If she was built by Zone Fifty, and she's still operational, that's some darn good technology. But yeah, now come the bigger questions.

What was she built for, originally? Is she still doing the thing she was meant to be doing? Zone Fifty is now gone, but is there something similar continuing on in its place? Is that what her division is? Is she contractually obligated to their agenda? What will she do once she gets to the bottom of things, and finds out the 'truth'? Is she in the position to overturn her superiors who are corrupted with this conspiracy?

AGHHHH so many questions XD;;;

EDIT2: I admit that now, she's given up a lot of information, so she may not feel so obligated to answer more questions without some proof. Do you think she'd want to watch the footage before coming to her own conclusions? Hm.
PurpleKetchup 26th Sep 2017, 1:19 PM edit delete reply
Told you.
Also praise the Sun, her primary goal is a perfect fit. Time to engage in jolly cooperation. She seems pretty damn advanced when it comes to fuzzy logic, she can probably keep stuff secret from her current employers.

And yeah, it's time to give back. Let her check the stick's content, then... drop the cover ?
Baeronius 26th Sep 2017, 2:20 AM edit delete reply
So we know, that she knows that the drug is by "some alien duplicate", and that she's a Woa-bot.
Mochi 26th Sep 2017, 2:24 AM edit delete reply
oh hell yeah.

do we want to go in? she’s said she doesn’t want to hurt us. she has no real reason to lie any more, especially not after we caught her out. and we can help her, with what we know. she’d be an incredibly useful ally. for now, our goals align. she wants to stop STQ, we want to stop STQ. the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

maybe it’s time for a face-to-face. she’s not going to try something. even if she is an android, i’m pretty confident that caius and michelle could still snap her like a twig.
rufiangel 26th Sep 2017, 2:31 AM edit delete reply
Ya, I'm sensing she really is just seeking the truth. We can help each other if that's what she's really after. -v-

It'd be easier to see her (or for her to see us) once she's actually seen the footage imo but eh. I don't mind just hanging around the block so we can pick Caius up later. XD;
T41 26th Sep 2017, 3:54 AM edit delete reply
Not so sure of the twig thing, she could be a lot stronger and more durable than she looks.
AlphaDragon 26th Sep 2017, 8:09 AM edit delete reply
My concern with just "Going in" is that Zone 50 was the one that was looking for aliens to begin with. That's how Dad met Mom. The blood on Mars was also discovered by Zone 50.
I have concerns that their are protocols that this android will have to follow... she may not even be aware of them.
Vahno 26th Sep 2017, 2:25 AM edit delete reply
Built. Huh. Bit of a surprise. But... honestly, we're an alien, we've got a mutant and two people who've been genetically designed for badass working with us.

Either way, guess it's time to come clean now.

Akasha 26th Sep 2017, 3:04 AM edit delete reply
Can't say I'm entirely surprised that she's something of Zone 50's. Hell, it does bring up quite a few questions as rufi had mentioned. And, seeing as she's been so forthcoming... I do agree with giving her the footage. As for coming clean? Hrm. I'm not entirely sure if /right now/ is the best time, but I'm not particularly opposed to it.

as a sidenote, all the motels in this city are ugly :P
rufiangel 26th Sep 2017, 3:14 AM edit delete reply
XD This one seems to be in better condition than the cheapo one we're staying at right now though, lol. And look, lemon and tangerine striped sheets! So cheery! And a flatscreen!
Mochi 26th Sep 2017, 3:28 AM edit delete reply
i think that's supposed to be a window :P
rufiangel 26th Sep 2017, 3:42 AM edit delete reply
OH. Is it?? Well then.

Gosh it's dark already ._.

The sheets are still cheery XD

EDIT: Wait wait like if that's a door next to the window and the other door is like a bathroom or something like like

Shouldn't there be curtains or blinds or like is this the future so the windows auto-tint themselves or like

Am I overthinking this

(yes I am)

Yep, but don't worry, I thought it was a flatscreen to

I mean, the gang burnt up a bunch of sheets and probably bled all over the other motel. If we are an example of their regular clientele, it might not be entirely their fault the motel was so grimy!

Pry a bit into that and her relationship with Jane's dad.
The latter being more important since Jane is his biological daughter and all. might hold some sway with her.
After that.... You know the annoying bit now is that we can definitely bring her into the fold, but she's gonna lack the blood wireless communication method that we've been relying pretty heavily on to get this far.
Well I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Maybe bring her down to visit Mom's Red if she promises to behave herself down there.

...... probably will also need to do a rather invasive diagnostic check on her for built in trackers and bugs.
Nayru9572 26th Sep 2017, 5:10 AM edit delete reply
Alright, let's first see where we get by questioning what she knew of Jane's dad, maybe have Gaius act like he didn't already suspect her of being an android. Definitely ask for more details about it, since we're not sure what this world's version of an android is.
Jane should probably relay everything she hears to the others, so they can come up with their own questions.

Then before telling her that Gaius might be able to contact Jane, show her the hospital footage. Then maybe ask everyone on our team what they think of letting Jury meet Jane.
Varil1024 26th Sep 2017, 8:33 AM edit delete reply
Should we just...own up to things at this point? I feel like it's going to get harder and harder to keep Caius' true involvement a secret, but it might also spook her if she finds out that Caius MIGHT be a brain-washed drone.

Come to think of it...was she built for spotting brainwashed drones? She seems to be uncannily prepared for noticing the quirks of those Thale has controlled.

She may actually trust us more when she sees we have a group of people around of us who all still exhibit their individuality. It might even be what set her to "protect" Finch a bit, because I bet she suspects he's "infected" but let's face it, ain't nobody got more individuality than the Finch. It might also why she isn't feeling all kill-on-sight about Blondie, if she thinks she might not be making slaves.
Mochi 26th Sep 2017, 12:53 PM edit delete reply
that's not a bad theory. she's probably got some high-tech facial recognition and behavioral analysis programs built into her simply to help her be a good cop. i agree that showing we're not hive-minding and that all our associates are still individuals might show her we're not like thale, and lead to her trusting us more.
26th Sep 2017, 10:15 AM edit delete reply
Maybe Zone Fifty's not as dead as advertised.
Skybirds15 26th Sep 2017, 11:08 AM edit delete reply

Well, well. Seems Team Fucked has a new friend. Well, might as well spill the beans about the church and Prophet. And that goop syringe we have in our back pocket giving us cancer. Also, nerds would not name her Jury without there being a Judge and Executioner. That's like naming Jupiter's moons after his affairs and then not naming the probe they sent there Juno.

I wonder if there are any Mom blood thralls.
Varil1024 26th Sep 2017, 12:57 PM edit delete reply

OH. So she's really good at collecting facts and then Executioner would be the badass who wrecks people, and Judge....does what? Makes an unbiased decision based on what Jury learns? Decides whether or not Executioner should be deployed?

Hmm. Well, if you're right I absolutely do *not* want to meet her siblings. I'm sorta-kinda developing a bit of trust for her no-nonsense info gathering attitude, I want nothing to do with someone named "Executioner".

...though if we start recruiting robots to go with our ragtag team of scientist doctors, lab meat, and mutants(plus a half-alien nurse) that would be pretty cool...
Kitty 26th Sep 2017, 3:03 PM edit delete reply
I'd imagine Judge would be the "home base" person who coordinates Jury and Executioner's actions in the field. Or maybe more of a forensic tech sort of person who analyzes what Jury and Executioner bring in-- their version of Abby from NCIS, perhaps?
lil Joshu 26th Sep 2017, 10:50 PM edit delete reply
lil Joshu
Actually, it turns out that Jury only has one sibling, and his name is Rigged.

Both of them were built using scrap parts from another project.

[Note: this is merely my headcanon until proven otherwise.]

[Secondary note: This is better than my previous headcanon where she has two sisters, one named Erizabef, and the other named Ruru, and their creator is Chinese.]

[Third note: Continuing headcanon, they also made an AI shaped like an old VHS that they named Accidental. She can combine with this AI for heightened combat skill, and the combo of the two is known as Accidental In Jury.
Baeronius 26th Sep 2017, 1:59 PM edit delete reply
So overall, it looks like people want to trust her, but we have one more reference we can ask.

Mom's Red will have been involved with the area 50 of yesteryear, so we can tell what kind of reaction It has toward Judge (*coughJury*).

Should we give Mom's Red a name? Like... Fredrick? Ferdinand? Oswald? Reginald? Jeeves? Oooh Oooh. More embarrassing than that? Wigglebottom. Wedgecleft. Longhammer.

But I do think we should ask Mom's Red before allowing Judge (inJury detected!) access to the ship location. If... we're gonna do that route.
26th Sep 2017, 2:12 PM edit delete reply
Who is Judge? Does Jury have a "sibling" we don't know about?

Find a good acupuncture place, they have a pin and spot specifically For migraines to the point of pin in and in Minutes migraine gone. Mom and my brother swear by them 100%.
Also of note induce a brain freeze for temporary relief, one frozen slushy or lemonade does the trick.
Baeronius 26th Sep 2017, 10:02 PM edit delete reply
The thing about acupuncture, is that it clogs the nerve pathways. It doesn't actually help anything.
And because it does nothing, it also promotes the recurrence. Even if the nerves aren't reporting, the damage is still being dealt.

A basic migraine medication or simple aspirin can control the swelling and other effects that arise from it. Combined with a nap, you have the fastest method of reducing the effects of one.

Okay, she's a cyborg or an android, built by 50, which opens up a whole can of worms.

If she has a primary objective involving us, she'll likely do whatever is necessary to gain trust, including spilling a lot of information (which we just so happen to already have).

That said, it's not the place of one meta-human to be judging another meta-human.

Then again, it's totally the place of one meta-human to be judging another meta-human.

So, one of the first things to establish is if this lady actually has free-will and her own conscious. We need to know if she's a fettered, unfettered, or rogue AI, or a human in a robot body.
Guest 26th Sep 2017, 8:36 PM edit delete reply
If she's a fettered AI (like Halo's Cortana), need to find out her primary purpose is.
If she's an unfettered AI (like Schlock Mercenaries Petey), figure out what she has chosen as her moral compass is. (Is she more of a short-circuit Johnny Five or more of a Metropolis Maschinenmensch).
If she's a rogue AI (like Space Oddessy's HAL), find out what her primary function is and why it it's sent her so far out of the norm, and if she's doing anything about it.

If she's a cyborg, is she a restrained cyborg (like Dr Who's cybermen or Star Trek's Borg) or a free-willed cyborg (like Ghost in the Shell's major Kusanagi)?
lil Joshu 26th Sep 2017, 8:45 PM edit delete reply
Also, she -has- confirmed a lot of suspicions. Although we might avoid divulging new information, we might as well confirm existing stuff.

Like she is her father's child, but she's also the child of an alien (but being born here, that makes her a naturalized citizen despite her mom's background). Allow to be known that her blood before and after the hospital incident read different because beforehand it was dormant and mimicking normal blood cells. To fight off the Save the Queen and heal her from the damage its pushers did to her though, it had to activate, and once active, no real reason to turn it off.

Side note:
Worth investigating if after adding blood TO someone if we can turn it off and extract it. Because, frankly, as fun as injecting people to get out of situations is, frankly, robbing people of free will is bad juju. And even if we respect the free will of someone injected, it'd be more respectful of their free will if we can remove it completely after crisis is over, and go a way to building trust if we can prove it. (Also to prove to ourselves that our friends are our friends because they're our friends and not just because we can thrall them at a moments notice.)

To answer your sidenote, we now know that a slightly repurposed extracirculatory machine will let us do that.

Jane fought against the one used by the feds, but once StQ is dealt with and we can finally stop fearing friends unwillingly turning against us, we will definitely comply and force Red to remain in the machine instead of avoiding it.

Well, after Jane fixes Michelle's and Caius' bodies so they live complete lives. Priorities.
lil Joshu 27th Sep 2017, 11:03 AM edit delete reply
lil Joshu
PurpleKetchup, The Extra-circulatory machine incident only shows that we can make blood act subtle and non-obtrusive. I'm talking about the ability to completely remove our influence from someone. No longer be able to issue commands, no longer be able to see what's going on with them, basiclally just, after this mess is all over, would they be able to return to being themselves if so desired?

We -are- a nurse afterall. Could easily have a great day-job if we can prove our honesty by injecting people, fixing them from the inside, and then withdrawing. Be one of the best mars-dammed nurses on the planet.
