You tell Caius what all you want him to open with, and what direction you're hoping to take the conversation. You send two of your ravens to keep watch over the area, leaving your third to continue watching your house. You ask Caius if he wants to register a room, or just do this in the parking lot in front of the motel.

"Keep it in public," he says. "We talk quiet so nobody hears us... but she ain't gonna try to shoot me in broad daylight. We'll go to a room or somethin' when I know she ain't here to off me."

The agent pulls up in a black car and approaches Caius. He discreetly flashes the USB at her. She reaches, expecting him to hand it to her, but Caius shakes his head.

"Lemme make somethin' real clear, lady. I watched this. I seen what happened at tha hospital. Tha girl you're after... she saved people while monsters were tryin' to kill her. I been lookin' at that hack case, and tha stuff I saw in that hospital--no street thug self taught hacker's gonna make things like that. This girl's a hero, and there's some real bad people doin' some real awful business tryin' to hurt her. This goes deep, deeper than Howler Ferrings, deeper than that hospital.

I need to know who you are, and what you're really after her for. I need to know you ain't jus' lookin' to finish tha job."

The agent stares at Caius for several long, tense seconds. She slowly reaches into one pocket--keeping the other in the air, and visible--and she pulls out her wallet. She shows Caius her badge.

Jury S
Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services

Caius stares at the badge for a while, taking it in, and giving you time to see it yourself.

"Now... let me ask you a question," says Jury. "You think someone was pulling Howler Ferrings' strings... but you don't think the girl was responsible. Who's behind it all, then?"

Caius considers it for a second. "You mean, like, who helped make tha monsters, or--"

"No," she cuts him off. "You've clearly given this consideration. You think someone aided Howler in creating those... monsters. However, someone with the expertise to cultivate such things wouldn't have that level of influence over someone like Howler, wouldn't have the resources to hide their involvement, and couldn't possibly know which hospital your client was being kept in on such short notice."

Caius stares blankly. He... starts to answer, but she continues.

"Those are the dots you would surely need to connect, aren't they? If you made it this far, and dug this deep, I don't buy for an instant that you'd stop asking questions there. You have to have some theory on who's behind it all. Everything. You have to have some inkling of a guess, even if it's a wild shot in the dark, as to who orchestrated the entire affair."

She pauses. She smiles, but it feels... cold. Like a forced response, something she did intentionally, not a genuine expression.

"I want to hear you say the name. It's very important to me that you are able to say the name out loud. If you can do that... then I'll tell you what I know.

Finch narrowed it down to Patton Thale and the other guy with Internet research, it wouldn't show our hand too much to name him.
rufiangel 25th Sep 2017, 7:29 PM edit delete reply
We narrowed it down based on the letters "TH" though - and that's not easily explained :'D

Honestly I kinda wanna bail LOL I know we've barely started but it doesn't feel right. She knows who Caius is, then our cover is well and truly blown. Might as well just tell her to forget it and walk away.

But that wouldn't really progress our investigation of her much so, uh...

I don't want to give her a straight answer. I'd rather ask why it's so important Caius say the name out loud. And what she's thinks she's playing at, calling him Caius. Does she really understand who he is and how he's involved? She can't know the full story, so wouldn't he be super suspicious to her just based on his background?
AlphaDragon 25th Sep 2017, 8:29 PM edit delete reply
I would think anyone under the influence of Queen couldn't say Thale's name...
rufiangel 25th Sep 2017, 8:52 PM edit delete reply
Ya, I totally forgot about that XD my bad

EDIT: I rescind my vote in asking about why because that was genuinely because I forgot why XD;;; Caius would actually know, though lol
Crestlinger 25th Sep 2017, 7:35 PM edit delete reply
So she's wearing a wire or recording device, hopefully no one we know on the other end.
Options: Zone Fifty, Lawler, Mackland, Shirai Thale, Carpenter and Prophet.
rufiangel 25th Sep 2017, 7:40 PM edit delete reply
Actually, now that you mention it, do robots even need wires? ._. I would think they automatically record everything or something.

But that does make me feel even more paranoid haha ;;;; we really gotta be careful what we say.

we need to load up, right now, while watching caius, and be ready to get to him FAST if things go south.

we know that those under Thale's control aren't permitted to say his name. those even remotely involved aren't allowed to say his name. he was very clear on that with macland over the phone. it's 10 to 1 that things will go horribly if we don't tell her. without a doubt. there's a chance, however small, that they won't end badly if we spill. i'm willing to take that chance.

load up.

be ready to roll out.

tell her it's Patton Thale.

hope for the best.
rufiangel 25th Sep 2017, 7:42 PM edit delete reply
Oh! Mochi I forgot about how Thale's followers can't say the name out loud.

How about we stall slightly by asking questions like how'd you figure me out, while we load up as you say, and bring out the name only when we're within reach? You're probably right that we'll never know unless we do it but we have to be in the position to prevent potential disaster :'D

Edit: Just Jane and Michelle should do, right? Fuse and Dr Finch can stay in the motel.
Mochi 25th Sep 2017, 7:49 PM edit delete reply
stalling would be bad. stalling would look like we're covering for the bad guys. someone who can't say the name would stall for time, for sure.
rufiangel 25th Sep 2017, 8:02 PM edit delete reply
I don't think it's necessarily that obvious we're stalling though, if we just straight up knee-jerk react to the fact she called Caius by name despite the fact he has never told her his name? >_>? I mean, it's kind of reasonable and not necessarily stalling for time. I'm kind of curious about that too XD;

But yeah, even if it's just for a tiny bit of time, it'd be good so we can, you know. Hustle.

this is true but i am VERY CONCERNED FOR MY PRECIOUS BOY and i do not want any harm to befall him

i don't think jury would straight-up cap him if he hesitated... she'd probably threaten him a bit first... but hhhhhhh we've been burned so badly before, we've been fucked over so much in the span of a few short days, i'm so concerned
rufiangel 25th Sep 2017, 8:13 PM edit delete reply
I know what you mean. And Michelle said he's due for some injury too :'DDD

Well, there's no need to blurt out 'Patton Thale' as soon as possible either, right? It's a fairly rational response to be on guard after she just dropped Caius's name like that.

And Caius really better be on his guard right now. I'm worried for him, too. But we're not far. I hope.
Mochi 25th Sep 2017, 8:18 PM edit delete reply
i'm slightly more optimistic about the whole affair now, i realize she'd probably be suspicious of caius because until three days ago, he worked for gesenai shirai. and it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out, you can tell just by getting a good look at him. he'd have the same face as her goons. her goons that attacked finch's home and tried to kill them both. of course she's suspiciousssss.

but please, be safe, my precious fite son, be safe and wary and please don't get hurt ;~;
rufiangel 25th Sep 2017, 8:23 PM edit delete reply
That's exactly what I mean, though! She should be totally suspicious! So what is she suspecting? Why did she come out here if she knows he's supposedly in Shirai's pocket?

Come on, lady, explain yourseeeeelf! lol

But yes, please. Caius. Stay safe.

I agree with Mochi, though I'm slightly more optimistic.
Mochi 25th Sep 2017, 8:02 PM edit delete reply
.... man, if she's with carpenter, this is gonna end real bad no matter what.

I'm suddenly imagining Caius saying "Voldemort" and it's cracking me up and I'm sorry :'DDD

He should totally say that as a joke before saying Thale.

(my suggestion, after reading above responses)
"The Butler did it...

Naw, just kidding.

I think it's a guy named Patton Thale, but it's an educated guess, and I've got about 3 other names I'm considering, but he's the current top contender. That said, I do know his or her name contains a "TH" from the semi-loose-lipped lackeys who for some reason can't say his full name - and have a penchant for attacking anybody who crosses "TH", (which if I'm wrong on, and you tell me what it is based on your intel, I will more than gladly say as proof.)"
Steve TMH 25th Sep 2017, 9:05 PM edit delete reply
I say we just name Thale, and prepare for sod to hit the fan. PRAYERS ROBOCOP DOESN'T WANT TO KILL US!!!

Deadly Death Sickle
I know this sounds dumb but, telling the truth might be a good option? I mean, it IS true that we tried to save people, we tried to save Michelle! We tried to save Caius the best we can. Sure we might have broke a law or two but, were not a devil... so maybe tell the truth, but maybe leave out some of the law breaking...
Guest 25th Sep 2017, 9:47 PM edit delete reply
Telling a cop "I broke the law" doesn't strike me as a safe bet for the long term. "They keep forcing self-defense situations" is a bit better, and establishes a point of innocence instead of guilt after the proverbial fan dies down and court stuff happens.

And that's why I said it was dumb
Skybirds15 25th Sep 2017, 9:08 PM edit delete reply
So.... Where's Judge and Executioner?

Anyway, Thale. Internet told us as much off the letters TH with resources, people, motive. Other contender had less evidence.
Bring up STQ and getting the letters TH from being kidnapped briefly before getting rescued by the person he brought as backup. Mostly true.
woah 25th Sep 2017, 9:09 PM edit delete reply
im voting on asking why we need to say it.
Akasha 25th Sep 2017, 9:45 PM edit delete reply
Yyyeah, I ain't really feeling the idea of stalling, myself. It'd probably just screw us over and bring more undue complications. May as well just say Thale's name and see where that takes us.
