You perceive through Michelle for a moment, allowing you to look out the window and see what she sees.

You watch as the creature finishes crawling out of a hole it just carved in the floor.

Michelle readies her shotgun.

You contact Fuse, and begin to explain--as quickly as you can--that there's a large creature made of living tissue wired up to a bunch of cybernetic gear, it is approaching at a not insignificant speed, and you ask if he can think of any way to possibly disrupt its currents (since Carpenter's controlling it electrically).

Fuse leans back, rubbing at his temples and exhaling slowly before responding with a loud, flat, "Okay, what? Run that... run that by me again."

...Hoo, boy, no time for talks. Good news, it'll be easy as heck to syringe that guy. Bad news....... yeah.

Okay, with all that skin and mass the electronics must be having heating problems. If one syringe is not enough to stop/kill/convert it, then we can maybe cause it to overheat its components and cause meltdown. Then... it'll go limp? Maybe? Depends on if it has a 'brain' or a brain.
Skybirds15 22nd Sep 2017, 1:45 AM edit delete reply
Btw Carpenter, you liar, that isn't bio-printed tissues and stuff, that's a lot of mass on that thing. It's just a bio-monster cyber-augmented.
rufiangel 22nd Sep 2017, 2:05 AM edit delete reply
To be fair, it's hard to say from here, it could just be like a thin candy coating XD;;; (though this is obviously nothing like candy)

I'm guessing if we try to syringe it, it will probably not be able to override the machinery underneath. We'd have to blood *both* the bio mass AND the machinery to really get anywhere with that. Maybe if Michelle could blast off some of that bio mass, we could try getting under its skin, so to speak.

XDDD I love Fuse's reaction LOL

I guess... "Carpenter-psycho made a HUGE bio-mech thing. It's coming for us. If you have any ideas on how to disrupt remote electrical signals in this kind of situation, just let me know within the next few minutes. Provided we're not dead by then. Cheers!"

It... seems to have a really obvious big green camera eye thing? Maybe too obvious. In any case, blind ittt!!

EDIT: But I just remembered we need to stall a bit. That thing has guns and a way of carving through metal. Let's barricade ourselves in to buy a minute or two with the lockers, I guess? We need more time to get the footage.
Baeronius 22nd Sep 2017, 2:18 AM edit delete reply
I guess if you had Blood in that, cause it's semi-mechanical, you could go about using the Blood to pluck individual wires one by one.
The best option would be to find the power receiver/pack and set that to overload.

Or... If you can find a microwave device, such as an X-ray machine, you can cause malicious induction to its circuitry. Which would be even more potent if it receives energy through the power induction.

We also have a conveniently placed locker or something along the wall. We could shove that toward the door.
OH, and now the records would hold the bio-machine on them as well, cause it's happening while we're downloading the active files. Possibly. Or not. Might not.
rufiangel 22nd Sep 2017, 2:41 AM edit delete reply
We shut down live surveillance, so probably not.
Baeronius 22nd Sep 2017, 2:51 AM edit delete reply
Carpenter has the system on a piggybacked network. We may have shut down the feeds going to this computer directly, but they're still running if Carpenter can direct his voice to this console.

Unless we know for absolute sure, that cutting off the feeds to this computer cut them from Carpenter as well, we'll want to stay away from the cameras, if we can get an idea where they point from the footage.

Edit: If Fuse could disconnect the network externally, we could ensure that the cameras aren't being used. If he can't disconnect them, then just dumping garbage signals down the connection would work to make them useless.
Mochi 22nd Sep 2017, 2:21 AM edit delete reply
oh goddamnit.

i hope we get to shoot carpenter in the face at some point. i guess... i guess like rufi said we should try to blind it? if the green thing is it's eye. it's between us and the exit, though, and it's probably too big to easily get around safely. even if we do blind it, there's nowhere to go. fuck. we should have gone to the apartment. we need a deus ex machina to get rid of this diabolus ex machina.
rufiangel 22nd Sep 2017, 2:40 AM edit delete reply
I guess even if we do blind it, it'll just shoot everything willy-nilly anyway. Eh.

Maybe shooting the guns out of its... uh... arm-like-things is the more reasonable thing to do. Not sure.
tor 22nd Sep 2017, 2:42 AM edit delete reply
guess we could have Michelle try to take out the visor or whatever it has on it's face to blind it. Granted Carpenter could use the camera's to help. but it might help.

Wow, finally managed to get up-to-date after four days of reading! Truly a beautiful comic, MM.

As for the current situation... Carpenter seems like a chatty fellow. If we start a conversation with him, he might actually not immediately kill us in favour of banter, since he might believe we can't come up with a way to escape.
Maybe bring up that the creature does indeed appear to be lacking in the mech department as mentioned above, just to distract him? Of course, that might make him 'demonstrate' it, which wouldn't be good.
We can still bring up Macland, and ask why he liquified his brain. I don't doubt that he knows we synched with him, since Knox already said so and he probably made sure the brain-melting would only occur if we synched with Mac.

And while that's going on, we should naturally try and find some way to disable that thing, maybe ask Finch for an idea or synch. He is awake and unoccupied for the moment, though the chance that the feds are still watching him and that he can't say anything aloud is still there.

Fondly recall how great Michelle's original gun was. You can't fight this thing. Try to bluff Carpenter - play up his (assumed) fear of being controlled with STQ. Inform him that your resident hacker can hit send this very second on a message straight to Shirai and Thale, which details the role he played in Mac's brain death and all the other ways he has been going rogue. Even if Thale was in on the betrayal, Shirai seems out of the loop and out for blood.
rufiangel 22nd Sep 2017, 8:29 AM edit delete reply
Aww yeah, Michelle had a great gun -v-* Her shot gun should do some damage, though, even if she can't obliterate it in one go like the laser cannon would have. We'll have to fight it smartly rather than with brute force, I think.

I don't know if we can bluff Carpenter (he just seems to be irritatingly unfazed and laughs maniacally at everything - wouldn't put it past the guy to laugh at his breakfast as he eats it) and honestly I'd rather not reveal we have a hacker at all. It was a smart choice to have only Michelle and Jane go to the hospital, as we managed to protect Caius and Fuse that way (he already knows Michelle and Jane). Just my two cents, though. -v-
Cuttlefish 22nd Sep 2017, 2:56 PM edit delete reply
That's fair - Fuse is our ace in the hole right now, so giving him away is probably the wrong move. Jane should still try get Carpenter talking though, while Michelle gives the eye thing a go. The biomech is directly controlled so splitting Carpenter's attention couldnt hurt.

I can't believe I had to flip my opinion in the space of one page LOL this friggin' comic and the choices it puts us through :'DDD

If you have great diversionary verbal tactics in mind though I say go for it -v-

i keep thinking of this while i’m at work and chuckling grimly.

i, too, long for michelle’s laser cannon.

should have checked to see if i was logged in, oh well
hireath 22nd Sep 2017, 8:56 AM edit delete reply
is that carpenter? it has the same bionic eye as him, and he did say that it started with a "human and cybernetic base" i.e. a cyborg which carpenter is.... or in this case was
Mochi 22nd Sep 2017, 9:42 AM edit delete reply
he probably built it in his image. i wouldn’t be surprised if he also had a god complex on top of the other various and sundry -opathies in that brain of his
AlphaDragon 22nd Sep 2017, 9:01 AM edit delete reply
I have a suspicion that shooting it "In the eye" won't help. It probably has backups anyway, and I don't think your gonna get enough blood in it to affect the electronics and the biomass.
Plus, carpenter would probably like to see us use that trick.
I think we should try to send fuse the image of what we are seeing while we try to stall it. I doubt there is anything like a EMP there and it would wipe the footage, but maybe Fuse can thing of something... Maybe overload the walls that charge things without outlets or something...
rufiangel 22nd Sep 2017, 10:19 AM edit delete reply
We might be able to partially mess with it even if we can't completely control it, like we did with the soda machines in Michelle's mindscape. It may only stall it but that works better than just letting it wreak free havoc.

We'll see if Fuse can come up with anything once he gets over his pure exasperation and 'wat' XD
Baeronius 22nd Sep 2017, 11:16 AM edit delete reply
Waaaaaaaiiiitt a minute. It's remote controlled...

See if Fuse can identify where the receiver is, then a single dart of blood can basically control the creature, or mess up its signal system.
PurpleKetchup 22nd Sep 2017, 1:58 PM edit delete reply
From Arvin's tone last panel, the remote control is in his hands. Dumb thing's even got a loudspeaker streaming his very own livecam.
PurpleKetchup 22nd Sep 2017, 2:02 PM edit delete reply
Wait, you meant the receiver in the creature. It's probably right next to the wireless power relay, right in the middle behind layers of bulletproof plating and EMP shielding.

Underestimating Carpenter is not healthy or sane.
Baeronius 22nd Sep 2017, 2:33 PM edit delete reply
Uh.. If it's inside EMP shielding, how would the signal get in?

A receiver would have to be mostly exposed in order to get a signal, especially in a metal-filled environment like this hospital, which would cause magnetics refraction. Not to mention that plating would be almost as bad for a signal if it's metallic.
PurpleKetchup 22nd Sep 2017, 3:28 PM edit delete reply
EM pulses don't cover the whole spectrum (typically high frequencies are not produced at all), so proper shielding can let your remote frequency pass and block all the damaging stuff.
PurpleKetchup 22nd Sep 2017, 2:16 PM edit delete reply
Barricade up.

I kinda want to one up Arvin right there though. Human tissues and bioprinted joints, is it ?
Time to show your progress, Jane. Grab one vial of red and focus.
Turn as much as you can into goddamn mustard gas.
Then wait until it shoots the glass pane open and throw it through there.
Baeronius 22nd Sep 2017, 2:44 PM edit delete reply
Ah... not mustard gas. But that may be a direction to take. (as mustard gas takes 24 hours to show effects, plus there is the issue of air circulation)...

Wait... do we know how to copy that weaponized strep?... then again that might be a bad idea if he's still streaming this.
PurpleKetchup 22nd Sep 2017, 3:13 PM edit delete reply
I thought about the streptos, but it's too dangerous with Michelle around. Skipping the bacterial source, most lethal toxins need to be directly injected to have any effect (that's a good thing, usually).
But sure, if she can syringe that behemoth, just red up some BTX and watch it melt right off in horrible pain.

Mustard gas isn't really a gas, so ventilation isn't too much of an issue when you directly splash the target with it (instead of spraying it in thin droplets). The delay before incapacitation is... less than ideal. Maybe VX then ? Acts fast, low volatility, heavier than air.

I could use a primer on what Red finds difficult to mimic. If Jane needs first hand experience, or just theoretical knowledge about compounds.
Kitty 22nd Sep 2017, 3:34 PM edit delete reply
And even if we can't have Red mimic toxins, we CAN inject the thing with our blood and then just start extruding Red from it. We've already seen what can go wrong if we draw on the red to try to fix things-- what if we just draw on the red to make more redstoff erupt out of the thing?

Especially if we center the effect on a vital organ. This thing is based on actual organisms enough that it should actually have vital organs.

If we don't wanna go Full Eldritch, we could just try to kill said vital organ, I guess. But showing Carpenter what we can do might be a good plan.

Then again, I can picture him just laughing it off and being all, "Delightful!~ You're turning into SUCH a monster~" or something.
Departure_Dave 18th Jul 2018, 10:18 PM edit delete reply
That looks like a monster straight out of Axiom Verge.
