You try to get a good look at Dr. Finch's monitors--to see if anything might pick up on his increased painkiller dosage--but you don't see anything of the sort. It just looks like a standard heart monitor, at least from here.

You tell Dr. Finch that if anything notable starts to happen, to rub two fingers together. You then set your blood alarm to notify you if Dr. Finch gives the signal.

You tell everyone else what's going on with Dr. Finch.

"Well, at least they're not roughin' him up or nothin'," Michelle says. "What are the odds they'll just... let 'em go?"

"Not great," Fuse responds. "Even if Blondie's blood can hide from all the tests, they're definitely gonna have questions. If they were just gonna let him go, they could have shipped him to a regular hospital once they were sure the bacteria was gone."

You raise the suggestion of spoofing a call to the number the agent gave you, or having Caius call it from a neutral location.

"I would need a computer, definitely," Fuse says with a nod. "If they're really a federal agency, then I can't cut any corners bouncing the signal. I'm sure they know how to track a phone call or two... I'd need to be thorough. Real thorough."

"I could try makin' a call from somewhere safe, away from the rest o' you guys," Caius says, "but I dunno what I'd say. Pretty please, gimme my buddy back? We'd have to make one helluvan offer if it's to get Dr. Finch back."

...Yeah, the ball's in the Fed's court on this one. We could, maybe, allow the Feds to question Jane. Over the phone. Through someone who isn't Caius, becuase if Miss Immune recognizes the voice, they'll know he's been stuck with THE BLOOD. This probably wouldn't get Finch out of there, and it would indicate that Finch is important enough to us that we want him out. Also that he has our blood in him. Ugh.
Maybe they want to know about Thale and Mackelmore? I dunno. I'm thinking we wait and see.

Allow me to just say that the whole point of asking Caius to do it is because they recognise him, and the agent lady wasn't overtly hostile towards him. He has a cover story that is plausible and she bought it for the meantime.

But if he asks for Finch back, that raises the question of how he knows Finch is there. And how he knows Finch. They most likely know Finch is in on the blood-alien thing because of the syringe, so Caius calling them would probably lead to trouble for Caius, because that means (logically) they both know Jane.

Please see my comment below XD; I definitely don't think he should be asking for Dr. Finch back!

I wasn't thinking of calling the Feds to say 'let our buddy go' dangit XDDD for one thing, that tips off Dr. Finch being associated with us, which we just told Dr. Finch NOT to let on, and second, we don't want them to have the leverage of knowing they have someone with them that's extremely important to us.

I was thinking more along the lines of saying something along the lines of, say:
a) Caius calls and says something like hey, look, it's me - the private investigator dude. I think I caught a lead to where the girl is. I'm calling because you told me to call but I still don't really know what the hell it is you want with her. I'm worried she's gotten mixed up in some kind of bad trouble here, and you guys have resources to either help me bust her out of it, or you're just gonna make it worse. I don't know which one it is. (Following this, he could give a fake 'lead'.)
b) Jane is the one who calls through a spoof (assuming we can get Fuse a computer). She calls to say look, I know you've been looking around my home. What were you looking for? I'll help you if I can, but I don't want to do jack if you're trying to dissect me or something.

Like, we're trying to get more information on what they want, was what I was thinking. Not tipping our hand so early!!

EDIT: To add to this, basically we don't even know if they're really a federal agency or not. Or at least, a proper one. It'd be good to get some clarification there. Like, what *are* they, really?

EDIT 2: Just to make the goal more clear - *IF* we want the opportunity to negotiate a deal to get Dr. Finch back, the important thing is to figure out exactly what it is they want, besides just getting Jane, as well as figuring out *what* they are, so we can see if a negotiation is even on the cards. Preferably *without* revealing our connection to Dr. Finch just yet. Upon getting the info, it may become more clear as to whether we have a shot at negotiation (from Dr. Finch's side and/or our own) or whether we're going to have to do the recklessly unthinkable (what's new?) and infiltrate the bunker.

i like the idea of jane calling from behind an elaborate spoof but it's potentially very dangerous if they're able to see through our ruse. speaking through one of the others from a location apart from where jane actually is is probably the best course of action. i don't know if we want to use caius or not, but that, i think, would be the best plan. finding out some information beforehand might be the best course of action.

The problem with calling through someone else is if Miss Immune only gave that number to Caius (or otherwise can figure out that the caller isn't someone she gave the number to) then that raises the question of who the caller got the number from.

Tricky but if they are willing to listen to him, (and have some confirmation of not working for one of the following) Finch could set them up to go sniffing around Gensai or Thale on the grounds that he recognizes the virus from something similar in the hospital and what was spawned from That with his impaling scar as evidence.
Skybirds15 17th Sep 2017, 8:37 PM edit delete reply
No, Fuse's hacker buddy was the one that cause that Tobu robotics hack, and Finch knowing about the computer in his 'basement' is suspicious as heck. Also, impalement scars look way different from a freaking flesh-eating virus.
