You walk Fuse back to the main part of the hotel room. You stimulate Fuse's adrenal gland, giving him a calming effect the way you did when Dr. Finch was under pressure. You also start hashing out ways to boost Fuse's immune system--you flush any unwanted bacteria out of his lungs and airways, and you tell his white blood cells to circulate more rapidly. It's not a perfect answer, but it's a start for such short notice.

You thank Red, and you ask if she's really alright. She sounds... off.

She actually makes herself visible this time, and nods.

"I'm... stressed? Is that possible?" Your red just looks at you for a moment. "You should be fine, though. You and Fuse both. I think Macland's brain damage started kicking in after we left his mind."

"I don't wanna like, come off rude or anything," Fuse says hesitantly, "but what the fuck is that?"

You and Red both turn to Fuse, who is staring directly at Red. Fuse glances at you to make sure you can see her, too, then goes back to staring at Red.

"Like, am I going crazy, or--"

"You can see me?," Red asks.

"Uh, yeah?," Fuse responds. "I guess I'm... not... supposed to...?"

This is one of those times I wish I had a rolly chair so I could go careening about my room, going *EEEeeeeeee!*
rufiangel 16th Sep 2017, 2:56 AM edit delete reply
What in the blazes XDDD

Uh, introduce our red to Fuse, I guess. Hey Fuse, meet the equivalent of the big mouth thing you saw in mom's basement, except that was to mom and this is to me. And uh, discuss why on earth Fuse can see her now? :'D
Mochi 16th Sep 2017, 2:56 AM edit delete reply
this is a fun development! why the fuck can fuse see red?!

uh... regardless, introduce them and explain that she's like the skin walled giant mouth thingy but not? i guess? or let her explain it. is this an effect of syncing with him so much? ... if not, would caius and michelle be able to see her? this merits testing.

edit: actually, she's appeared to us before while we were around other people, but we always seem to be instantly alone when she does. i think it might actually have to do with syncing so much. or maybe she's doing something different this time?

edit 2: also is it possible to boost fuse's healing factor without straight-up regenerating him? like just give his natural processes a bit of a leg up?
rufiangel 16th Sep 2017, 3:01 AM edit delete reply
I think the number of times we've synced may actually affect it, now that you mention it O_O

... time to start a sync count XD *goes back to trawl through archives*
Mochi 16th Sep 2017, 3:07 AM edit delete reply

she doesn't just have to talk only to us! she can talk to fuse! she can have an actual friend!!
Baeronius 16th Sep 2017, 3:23 AM edit delete reply
OOh Oooh, this means we can have Red pat Fuse on the head... I mean if Red wants to... and if Fuse permits it. I guess?
Mochi 16th Sep 2017, 3:30 AM edit delete reply
i mean. she doesn't actually exist. ... i don't think.
PurpleKetchup 16th Sep 2017, 3:58 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, I don't think she's actually physically present, else she probably wouldn't look like her Janescape version.
T41 16th Sep 2017, 3:12 AM edit delete reply
Is it possible that they're still synced up and in the rush to help Fuse Jane just forgot to end it?
PurpleKetchup 16th Sep 2017, 3:15 AM edit delete reply
Come on Fuse, it's "who the fuck is that?".
Also, this is super nice to strengthen Red's links to humanity, but he still needs to rest. Lie down already, geeze. Nurse's orders.

Your mom's red said it could be expressed in several places simultaneously. Red should also be able to stick with Fuse and talk to him all while still helping Jane elsewhere... probably.
Baeronius 16th Sep 2017, 3:25 AM edit delete reply
He was probably staring right at her as she... well however it is she entered the room.
rufiangel 16th Sep 2017, 3:36 AM edit delete reply
Here we go guys, here's the sync count - please let me know if I forgot anything: (EDIT: Mochi reminded me we synced driving to Fuse once, corrected - now Fuse is top of the charts XD)

Sync count

Fuse: 8
Michelle: 7
Dr. Finch: 4
Caius: 2

* Sync with Fuse, hack computer
- Synced with Fuse's hacking knowledge to get into the computer in Howler's basement

* Sync with Fuse and Michelle
- Synced with Fuse for computer knowledge, Michelle from law enforcement for her knowledge on military tech, in order to open the military grade lock in Jane's basement.

* Imitate Cleantex
- Synced with Fuse for his drug knowledge and Dr. Finch on his chemistry/biological knowledge to imitate Cleantex.

* Spend the day on the down low
- Synced with everyone (Michelle, Fuse and Dr. Finch) while playing card games to attempt to practice keeping information from leaking.

* Syringe and/or shoot him
- Synced with Fuse and Michelle, to sync Michelle's combat experience through to Fuse so he could combat the axeman.

* Regenerate
- Synced with Dr. Finch for his knowledge in human anatomy when attempting regeneration.

* Get ready to fight
- Fuse and Michelle, to get ready to feed combat experience through before Tiger-mask. (This didn't last long though, because we broke concentration pretty quickly.)

* Force sync Michelle
- Forced a sync to learn something about Michelle she didn't want us to know.
- This sync lasts the entire sequence in Michelle's head.

* Start syncing
- Synced with Michelle and Caius, to feed her shooting skills through to him so he could shoot better at the Elegance goons in the car behind. (This continues through to the end of the car chase.)

* Head for Dr. Finch's
- Synced with Fuse to give him better driving skills. (This lasts all the way until we reach Dr. Finch's.)

* Sync with Dr. Finch
- Synced with Dr. Finch to read his mind and get a silent update.
- Synced with Caius, Michelle and Dr. Finch to feed their shooting and melee combat experience through to him, and aid him in his fight against Elegance goons.
-This sync lasts the entire sequence, all the way until Dr. Finch loses consciousness.

* Force sync Macland Row
- Synced with Fuse, and then forced a sync with Macland Row.
- This sync lasts the entire sequence in Macland's head.

If this is a matter of the number of times of syncing causing Fuse to see Red, then Fuse *is* the most synced with, to date. Just FYI. XD;
Mochi 16th Sep 2017, 3:41 AM edit delete reply
it's a 50/50 chance between just being the number of times, or that combined him having a weird brain on account of his psychic mutation. we shall have to science it with michelle. by my count, he's one ahead of her. so if we sync with her once when she gets back and just swap something silly, we should be able to test if she can see red too. if not, we know it's because of fuse's mutation.
Baeronius 16th Sep 2017, 3:42 AM edit delete reply
Unless she's... Physically in the room because she learned how to manifest herself on accident from the stress of the Macland event.

So, can Red toss us the pillow from the bed?
Mochi 16th Sep 2017, 3:44 AM edit delete reply
unless i'm misunderstanding, externalizimg our red means having it grow out of us. this is just how she appears to us in our mind the same way she always does. maybr MM can clarify that?
Baeronius 16th Sep 2017, 3:47 AM edit delete reply
We've extruded so much blood prior to this, we could build a cow, so I don't see why she couldn't just warp whatever biomass she needed into the room through a bit of blood that left the body, whether it came from Fuse or us doesn't really matter if it can be used as a portal.
Cause there is that blood on the bed back there, and if it's Fuse's blood then a bit of the transfused stuff could have been in the mess, and Viola! instant Red!
Mochi 16th Sep 2017, 3:50 AM edit delete reply
i'm reasonably certain it doesn't work that way. when we asked red if we could externalize her she told us this:

"You could, I think," it begins. "Though I don't know how well you could recover from that. The red grows out of you. It wouldn't look like this, either. Some things look nicer in your head than they really are."

so in order to externalize our red we'd have to grow it out of us. she can't just spontaneously appear in a place.
Baeronius 16th Sep 2017, 3:53 AM edit delete reply
The blood already directly comes from our body... I mean it IS our body, so... what part of the body does Red have to manifest from if the blood doesn't qualify on its own? Questionzzz.
Mochi 16th Sep 2017, 3:57 AM edit delete reply
it would have to grow out of us as in we would have to grow a physical thing out of our body in order to have an externalized red. that means growing flesh and bones and a whole other person for her to physically exist in this room at this time as we see her. which i don't think we've had the chance to do between bundling fuse into the bathtub and now.
Baeronius 16th Sep 2017, 4:06 AM edit delete reply
But all of the cells are mimicry cells. Just having a pool of blood, they could reform themselves into the mimic'd shapes? Right?
rufiangel 16th Sep 2017, 4:18 AM edit delete reply
All the answers you are seeking, Baer, are on this page. Basically, two things:

1. The red grows out of you. It doesn't look the same in our head as it does physically. (The Regeneration scene confirms this.)
2. "Blood needs a vessel. It is mind, but not body. Once your blood is inside something, you are a part of it... but your blood cannot act on its own."
Baeronius 16th Sep 2017, 4:26 AM edit delete reply
Ah, but you see, it also says that the Blood cannot be made into a construct. Which is what Mom's ship is. Soo....?

And it says it comes from our body, but doesn't state it has to extrude all at once.

So, basically it answers very little other than possibly, if it does get a body it would have to be guided...

Which could also mean, in our desperation to escape Macland's mind, we could have been so focused on staying alive, that we created a body for her from the leftover blood, so she didn't need to create a body, if we forcibly did it by accident.

So... I'm confused.
Ooh next page is up! Time for some soul-crushing answers! XP
rufiangel 16th Sep 2017, 4:42 AM edit delete reply
To lessen your confusion, let me just state up-front: Mom grew the ship out of her body. That's why everything is made out of organs. Our hatched egg is in there too!

MM can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm reasonably certain this is the case, given all the facts we've learnt in the course of the story so far.
Morgenstern 16th Sep 2017, 4:55 AM edit delete reply
Basically that, yeah. The protagonist, too, could theoretically grow a thing out of her body... but she'd have to grow a thing out of her body. What the red does in regard to that is a.) give the organ thing independence and b.) provides the original body with infinite material. When the protagonist healed her shoulder, the teeth, extra tissue, etc were all externalized red.

In simplest terms: you can't transmute blood to meat or solidify blood, but you can grow meat out of yourself (and then give that meat a personality). It's just that growing things out of yourself is Not Great when you have trouble putting things back the way they were.
Frission 8th Dec 2017, 6:33 PM edit delete reply
Wait, then does this mean she really /does/ have infinite blood?
worthless 16th Sep 2017, 3:45 AM edit delete reply
wait...are they, the red, "HERE"?!?!!?!
that would be f***ing awesome again its about as low a chance as sentient ravens and its just about more awesome though too and am I the only one that thinks force syncing is kind of useless, with enemies I mean like what did we gain from that? Mac's made out of self esteem and a giant coward? what did we truly gain from that? and it was VERY dangerous this time. If im very just very oblivious and missed something really obvious then please enlighten me
Mochi 16th Sep 2017, 3:51 AM edit delete reply
the point of it was to learn the identity of TH, and we did. TH is Patton Thale.
Baeronius 16th Sep 2017, 3:52 AM edit delete reply
Well, I guess we have confirmed people who are up the grapevine from him, and I think we learned about a reporter? As well as there could be a community of distrusting individuals floating around the cult, but not quite IN it.

If I could use telekinesis to make you float, I would. But you seem to be too far away.
AlphaDragon 16th Sep 2017, 3:57 AM edit delete reply
I suspect this probably has to do with the fact we invaded MacLand's brain with Fuse in tow. But I think it might be a good idea to check. I would suggest that we have Michelle and Caius in the room when she tries it next. If it's only due to time the blood is in the person Michelle should see her, if it's Sync count we can sync once more with Michelle and try it. If it's anew red ability Caius should see her to.
