Morgenstern 14th Sep 2017, 4:51 AM edit delete
You start to talk to Fuse... but he doesn't talk back. He clacks his mandibles. He makes soft hissing noises. He moves his various limbs for a moment... then jerks erratically, as though frustrated.

You give him a hug.

You look around at the items on the floor. Fuse's clothes, his visor... and his tools.

Fuse is so bonded to his tools that even his subconscious manifestation had them.

You acquire Fuse's toolkit.

We'll need a rudamentary communication system. Clack twice for "yes", hiss for "no".

Was Fuse always a roach in here? Does he know the other roaches? Did they transform like him? Could he climb a slippery pipe and check the computers upstairs?
rufiangel 14th Sep 2017, 5:31 AM edit delete reply
Fuse wasn't always a roach in here, since he did actually talk to us earlier (and now he can't), plus his clothes are on the floor, indicating they came off when he transformed. :<

What's worse, is that this means that Morgenstern doesn't want to show us Fuse's face! He's TAUNTING us with that! Fuse DID have it revealed here, but we didn't find him fast enough before he transformed!

Side note - thanks Morg! That Gratuitous Anime Gimmicks book was delivered much faster than anticipated!

Should we ask red for an explanation or at least for information on what going on?
rufiangel 14th Sep 2017, 5:34 AM edit delete reply
Seconded on rudimentary communication system for now. I think we'd better get out of here. Should we try busting through the pipe grate here using Fuse's toolkit? We can't shimmy up the pipe in the starting point anyway so we need to cover new ground to find a new exit. Let's a-go.

Just a separate comment entirely just to say Fuuuuuuuuuse *sob sob sob* the things we put you through

I'm happy he got a hug but omg he deserves a million ice cream sundaes or something once we get out of here

*whines* fuuuuse. i keep coming back to this page and just feeling so bad because, once again, we've dragged fuse into an awful situation. this just keeps happening. ditching the bodies, going into the warehouse, losing finch, and now this. it's a wonder he stuck around in the first place. i hope he knows how much we appreciate and love him... ;___;

Maybe this is like Persona 5 and palaces - except instead of people invading the palace being separate from their cognitive versions, Fuse ended up _becoming_ his cognitive version of himself? Possibly because he's not like Jane?

Okay, first thing first...lets explain what's going on, quickly. He needs to know the nature of the trap we've stumbled into, as best we understand it, and the fact that it is killing everyone involved in this link.

Also, apologize for getting him involved in this and thank him for dealing with the Megarat.

Check the computer to see if it's at all functional. I'm assuming not.

Ask Fuse if he knows a way out(one clack for yes, two for no), and if he can lead us out, AND if it's dangerous or not. Explain that we need to go UP and OUT of the sewers, because the exit is above, along with the core of the Unthought that is killing us.

Check on red, ask her if there's any direct way we can help her. Ask her if our perceived proximity to the trap has an effect on its ability to hurt(since at this point we're probably as far away as we can get in this mindscape). Also, if it has at any point since we encountered it changed in intensity(for better or worse).

This seems like a good plan.

fuuuuuuuck macland row. i'm pretty much past feeling bad about soupifying his brainmeats by the time we're done here. i can honestly say that based on what we've seen, the world's going to be a better place when he's not in it. even if it's only a little, it'll be better. he's robbed our best friend of his humanity. can you imagine if we'd brought michelle or caius?

anyways... do what rufi suggested. see if there's something in his tool kit that will get us through that pipe grate in the starting area. also, rudimentary communication is good, but maybe stick to clicks instead of specifying two different gestures -- two clicks for yes, one for no.

and he's coming with us. we're not getting separated again.
Auron 14th Sep 2017, 12:24 PM edit delete reply
Actually since Caius is an ex guard from the club that's been represented in Macland's brain he probably wouldn't end up too warped.
PurpleKetchup 14th Sep 2017, 12:53 PM edit delete reply
Eeeh, I wouldn't bet on that. He probably keeps a special hell for anyone he considers a traitor.
Mochi 14th Sep 2017, 1:13 PM edit delete reply
yeah, not only that, but this is a man who sees poor people as roaches. no way he'd give lab meat any basic human decency, whether they work for him or not.

So, basically, we're turning Fuse into an...inverse clapper?

Do we know any sign language? No? Uh... drawings in the dirt could work. Plenty of dirt here.
Auron 14th Sep 2017, 12:20 PM edit delete reply
This is brain space. Maybe putting Fuse's visor back on will help?
PurpleKetchup 14th Sep 2017, 1:02 PM edit delete reply
How peculiar. Fuse now is four-armed; that's an odd amount of arms to have. That's also an even amount of arms to have.

... Sorry. But Jane should totally pull that pun to make Fuse bug-chuckle a bit.
Also, pick his stuff up and wear them.
Kitty 14th Sep 2017, 3:52 PM edit delete reply
Say, now that we're in Fuse's presence, are we able to sync his abilities to ourselves at all? Or is that ability blocked because we're already syncing with Macland?

I'm thinking that if we can pull info out of Fuse's brain, we might be able to have him clack to us in binary, or use his antennae (wave left antenna for 0, right antenna for 1). As a hacker, he *might* know binary well enough for this to be an only somewhat inefficient method of communication.
