You elaborate on the situation, and ask Caius if any of what's going on sounds familiar.

"Hell no it don't," he states flatly, "Gesenai woulda friggen skinned me if I got caught doin' drugs. Havin' her guards off themselves don't sound right, neither. That don't sound like Gesenai Shirai--maybe somebody hijacked her scheme."

You check on Macland. He's currently in his hotel room drinking heavily, alone.

You tell Dr. Finch to take the phone. You stimulate his adrenal glands, simulating a light sense of euphoria--it will help calm him down without the downsides of level. Doing this too often could be hazardous and addicting, but you don't suspect Dr. Finch will be put in situations like this very often.

He's hesitant... but he motions for the phone back. The agent hands it over.

"Who is this?," Dr. Finch asks.

"Hello there. Is this Mr. Finch?" You recognize the voice as Arvin Carpenter. "I asked you to turn the television on, Mr. Finch. Don't you want to play?"

Your car is almost to Dr. Finch's place.

Mochi 6th Sep 2017, 10:37 PM edit delete reply
no! fuck you, carpenter! DO NOT. TURN ON THE TV. in fact, it might be a good fucking idea to get the hell out of the place. like, who knows what kind of fucked up shit carpenter is planning on showing finch?
Baeronius 6th Sep 2017, 10:42 PM edit delete reply
Wait wait wait...
Is this.... like Saw? or something. O.o;;

"Don't you want to play?" I mean I've never watched the movies, but it's ringing some bells here.

So... lets see... the horror movies I know that involve viewing something on TV... either have the viewing initiate a torture session on someone, or the number of viewers increases the rate at which some lethal drug, or killing device operates.
Kitty 6th Sep 2017, 10:43 PM edit delete reply
Yeah no we really don't particularly want to play, thank you very much.
Wing Eye 6th Sep 2017, 10:46 PM edit delete reply
Wing Eye
Maybe we can mess with him a little bit while stalling for the rest of the gang to get back, we could have Dr. Finch say something like "Play? This isn't a game Mr. Carpenter!"
Baeronius 6th Sep 2017, 10:49 PM edit delete reply
Or... you could go to the absurd and say:
"Playtime is over! It's time to D-d-d-d-d-d-d-duel!" with a musical score in the background.
Or possibly confuse him by saying:
"Winter is coming." then stare at the wall.

Edit: Sorry guys/girls/them I went on a brain-tangent there. That happens to me.

i really.... don't think that this is the time for jokes, if i'm honest.
WalkerOfSorrow 6th Sep 2017, 11:02 PM edit delete reply
My friends, the solemn time has come: Mochi and I agree. This is certainly not the time for wit or jokes. We must act on the assumption that Carpenter has measures in place to control the situation (i.e. a bomb in Finch's head, the agent is Queened, etc.) We should have him reply something like, "This is DOCTOR Finch. I did not toil over getting a doctorate for fun, Arvin Carpenter." Proceed to keep the man talking and grandstanding while we arrive and figure things out.

My specific reason for saying either "Mr. Carpenter" or his full name is to demonstrate that Finch knows Carpenter's name and so establish a little bit of power on our side. Without flaunting "That's right I know your name" we can cooly and simply show him that he's not playing with mice in a maze.
Kitty 6th Sep 2017, 11:12 PM edit delete reply
I'd go with Mr. Carpenter, just to add a bit of insult. Since he called Finch Mr., after all. Adds a bit of the "nonono, I'm an ACTUAL doctor."

Although I don't know if it's even necessarily good to reveal that we know who he is. Like, maybe we shouldn't tip our hand?

Maybe we just call him "mister," and let him guess whether we know his actual name and the "mister" is a jibe directed at his lack of a doctorate, or whether we don't know.
WalkerOfSorrow 6th Sep 2017, 11:19 PM edit delete reply
That's why I said not to go all "We KNOW who you are." If Finch just says something in reply and calls him by name, no flaunting, then it will sound like Finch knows who he is and can recognize him by voice. That throws Arvin off balance and makes Finch seem knowledgeable. But I don't think it tips him off that Finch is linked to us.

Besides, I think Carpenter already knows Finch is with us.

Sepia s. I mean, seasoned pros...I vote turn it on! We'll probably need to know just how big this problem is.

How ever..."neither" agent nor Finch should look at the screen. Let's leave that to our raven.

If not then sarcastically ask, "Let me don't want to ruin the surprise?"

...Maybe we shouldn't be turning our backs on the bodies.
Shoot the dead guy.
The tv looks expensive, but maybe shoot it too.
Maybe shoot the phone.
Shoot the dead guy a lot, actually. Maybe... Maybe try and get somewhere safer.
I don't believe we were ever able to reanimate the dead.
If you were evil, had several billionaires and who knows how many scientists behind you, and really wanted to do it, I bet you could.
Irritatingly, Enyo is all of those things.
Let's just... Wait for the reinforcements.

On the conversational front, draw on DR. (COUGH COUGH) Finch's knowledge to see if we can distract the guy with some banal thing.
Is this guy easily distracted by romance? Politics? Try anything.
Also, uh, shoot the guy, yeah. Mostly that.
Baeronius 6th Sep 2017, 11:12 PM edit delete reply
So you literally want us to um... shoot our troubles?
I don't think troubleshooting works that way.♥

Also, it might make the officer think we're nutso.

I say we have Finch throw the phone by the body of the dead guard and shoot the phone. Then go to the circuit breaker (or have the raven do it) and shut off the power. Because we really, really do not want to hear or see whatever Carpenter has in store. And we really, really want to make sure that whatever surveillance equipment he's using to go dark.

We then need to extract Finch and the agent. We also need to give the agent a choice of whether or not to take our blood, especially since the agent may have an audio-visual trigger she doesn't know about.
rufiangel 6th Sep 2017, 11:12 PM edit delete reply
Gosh darn, it really is Carpenter.

Er, could we have our raven check on the Elegance driver? Is the driver shooting up on that weird stuff, too?

We probably shouldn't let on that we know who it is, that might give away our blood link. Maybe ask just what in the hell is going on, and why is he trying to 'play' a game here? (Also, that's DOCTOR Finch to you, sir. Unlike you, The Finch™ is a proper doctor!)

(As a side-note, poor Dr. Finch. His home. ;_;)

EDIT: Oh, and maybe let Dr. Finch know we're almost there. It might help him to calm down further, to be reassured we're not far.

EDIT 2: What Caius says makes it clear that Arvin Carpenter is hijacking Shirai's plans. Mackey may or may not be in on that, too. I'm so annoyed that this is all happening while Mackey is FINALLY ALONE and we can actually command him to talk out loud and share info without an audience, but we can't right now because Dr. Finch, and arghhh MM you meanie XD;;;;

Oh Finch must call us. It would be very suspicious if we came there with out any kind of informings us abot this.
Kitty 6th Sep 2017, 11:14 PM edit delete reply
Eh, we're past the point of "suspicious" now. Carpenter knows what we can do already, and Agent Fed is likely to learn sooner rather than later.
sanches 6th Sep 2017, 11:15 PM edit delete reply
Better late, then soon.

And i dont recomend to turn on the tv. There maybe somekind of triger or something. Maybe something like triger for hypnosis and agent will kill finch.
6th Sep 2017, 11:16 PM edit delete reply
It's Dr. Evil Finch, I didn't spend six years in Evil Medical School to be called "mister," thank you very much.
Guest 6th Sep 2017, 11:22 PM edit delete reply
I... am afraid I don't remember a Mr. Carpenter.
Baeronius 6th Sep 2017, 11:27 PM edit delete reply
Carpenter is the little guy who looks like a robot with a green eye.
The "medical examiner" with the hypno-screen.

Edit: Whoa. that was like piranha circling a wounded cow in the Amazon.

originally seen strapping macland to a table to initiate some memetic defense thingy, arvin carpenter is a disgraced doctor who lost his medical license because he was doing experiments involving making monsters out of bio-printed human tissue. he's dangerous and unhinged. even prophet thinks he's a sociopath, and that's probably saying something.
