You ask Caius about his apartment. "S'at the bottom of tha upper tiers. I wanted a place close to work, but on tha cheaper side... y'know?"

You also apologize for dragging him into this. He lightly chuckles.

"I, uh, accept your apology. Way it sounds, you was kinda dragged into this, too."

You ask Dr. Finch if he can look into ways of combating PTSD--partly as a counter-counter measure against Macland, and partly because... well, your group may need it eventually.

You, Fuse, Caius, and Michelle load up into your car and head to his apartment. You approach it cautiously, rounding the block a couple of times, all on the lookout for anything suspicious. Once the coast is confirmed clear, you let him go grab his stuff. Caius comes back with a duffel bag and a change of clothes.

You all head to the Rockwell arcade to check on Grizwald. The arcade is unlocked, but... no one's home. You knock on all the machines, and you check the back storage room, but... no Grizwald. No notes, no signs of a struggle, nothing. His beers and his stash of cleantex are still there.

You swing by Elegance, waiting in the parking lot while you summon your rat. It crawls out of the vents, scurries across the way, and you open the car door to pick it up. You have re-acquired your rat.

Finally, the four of you head toward your house. On the way there, you practice with small doses of simulated level, trying to duplicate its effects without... well, duplicating its effects. Level stops the body from initiating a stress reaction, including ceasing the production of adrenaline. The problem is that it only stops stress reactions in regard to emotional stress, not physical. When the body is physically worked while on level, the stress reaction initiates, but the adrenaline doesn't... which can lead to organ failure, and a number of other terrible outcomes.

You think you have the basic idea down, you just have to figure out the execution. Turning stress effects off but leaving adrenaline available is one option, but it risks confusing the body in a few ways. You consider stimulating the adrenal glands, rather than shutting off stress responses--giving good feelings instead of stopping the bad ones. However, this would dramatically increase how psychologically addicting the effect is, and possibly wear on the adrenal glands in the long run.

You drive by your home. There is a black car parked across the street from it.

oh my god, caius, what is on your tshirt? what i'm seeing is either some sort of space invaders-esque thing, or a dude flexing, i'm not sure. could also be a skull with horns? either way, i love it. also, yay! willard! who's a good rat? you are!

as for what to do, park a safe distance away and watch the car for a bit. if we can see the license plate, see if caius recognizes it as belonging to either macland or shirai. either they're staking out the place and waiting for us to return, or there are people inside messing with our stuff. whatever it is, the best option is to just sit back and wait for a little.

Looks like a demon skull sort of thing to me.
Mochi 30th Aug 2017, 10:10 PM edit delete reply
you're probably right

I can't unsee the little flexing guy now

One must have a Flexable imagination.

Carry on with other things for now, swing back later to see that car if it's still there upon return. If it is we can get a camera to watch our place to monitor any suspicious activity. After cleaning them up assign masks to everyone.

Well, we have the rat. Might as well use it. I vote we leave the rat here to find out when the coast is clear for us, and whether Mom's Red has murdered the intruders or not.
Kitty 31st Aug 2017, 2:56 AM edit delete reply
Good idea! With a directive to be as stealthy as possible, of course. Don't want a repeat of the demise of our last rat :/ And also don't want to tip off the baddies.

We should also probably caution the rat to stay out of Mom's Red itself, too. Not sure if Mom's Red would recognize it, or accidentally go CHOMP... Of course, I imagine it'll avoid the Red out of instinct anyways.

Switch to Macland-o-vision for a moment without syncing.

Yeah, we should take a look at Mac real quick.

So... Caius brought back a duffel bag, and a change of clothes... what was in the duffel bag?
I would like to chime in that I think we need to be finding Griswald... maybe we should review the video for any evidence of where he might be. I hate when one of our people is missing. Remember the bartender.
Mochi 31st Aug 2017, 9:55 AM edit delete reply
i'd guess that "chunk o' change" he mentioned having stashed there. and probably more clothes and other essentials.
AlphaDragon 31st Aug 2017, 10:19 AM edit delete reply
Considering his line of work it could also be weapons. Could be tools of the trade as well (IE handcuffs, zipcuffs, stuff for gags and blindfolds). Best not to assume on resources.

Fanart scene rendition of saving Caius - I hope I made an acceptable stab at Caius -v-;

Jane doesn't have her surgical mask here, let's say she put it on again afterwards okay? XD;;;
Mochi 31st Aug 2017, 11:39 AM edit delete reply
aw, yay! more art! i think you did a real good job of capturing the thought process of "there's no goddamn way this cute little chick is the terror i've heard about"
rufiangel 31st Aug 2017, 10:46 AM edit delete reply
Darn, and we just got Willard back XD; but I guess it makes sense to make use of him if we can, though I really would rather he didn't get crushed for his efforts -v-;;

Grizwald continues to be MIA... hope that's not a bad thing.
Kitty 31st Aug 2017, 12:48 PM edit delete reply
We should at least reward Willard with some tasty treats while we have him back, since he's been having to live on scraps for a while, and it's unlikely that there will be many scraps to forage for in our house. And because Willard is a good rat and deserves tasty noms.

I doubt we need to worry about Grizwald

'Cuz ol' Grizwald... is just that. damn. good.
