The next morning, Fuse makes breakfast.

Or tries to--Michelle ends up having to help him.

Caius shaves his head.

You put an alert on your blood--you will be informed if Macland says the word 'nurse.'

Once everyone's had breakfast, you all gather in the living room. "What's the plan, boss?"

As a side note--and as much as I don't like hustling for money--I'd like to encourage people to pitch in to my Patreon. All of my income right now is coming from various writing endeavors--which affords me enough time to update Blood is Mine like I have been. My situation's not exactly dire, but at the current rate I'm not sure how much longer I can keep doing this like I have been. The less time and focus I have to put into money, the more time and focus I can keep on this. Any little bit would help.

Thanks, and thanks for reading! And the fan art, and the fan page, and... all of the other crazy stuff you guys do. It does mean a lot to me, I just... also have to eat.

caius mentioned needing to go to his apartment, can we find out where that is? there aren't really any other pressing matters we have to attend to. aside from possibly swinging past elegance on the way and retrieving our rat. oh, and maybe popping by the arcade again to check in and see if grizwald is about, make sure he's still good. whoever is going out to run errands should be armed, just in case, though. better safe than sorry.
WalkerOfSorrow 30th Aug 2017, 7:33 PM edit delete reply
Finding the apartment sounds doable, but going might need to wait if we find out it would be too high-risk, low-reward. We'll have to ask Caius what he knows of the area.

Agreed to the rat-grab and arcade run, and the note about arming up.

Man, I really need to start making some money so I can start giving you money >_>

As for what to do today, we might want to look into ways to try to subvert Macland's psychological brain trap, in case we ever need to sync with him. Since what they were showing him seemed to involve "terrible things that people really don't want to see," maybe we should focus on using existing strategies for dealing with PTSD and OCD.

Perhaps we should take up mindfulness meditation, just practice a few minutes each day, in order to be able to identify which thoughts are ours and which thoughts belong to our bloodfriends/ are hallucinations/ were set as traps for us.

I feel like mindfulness meditation might be a good idea for EVERYONE, at this point. Although maybe we shouldn't all practice together, as that might compound our accidental syncing problems :P

I hear you there, Kitty. I'm in no position to be giving anyone money. Diligent readership is really the best I can do. But hopefully I'll have a job soon.

I don't think the brain trap is something we will be that effective against without knowledge of its contents, but figuring out strategies for PTSD is definitely wise. Wonder if Finch has any psych colleagues. I don't know how interested the others will be in meditation, but Jane should definitely work on sorting herself out, and I think Finch and possibly Fuse might take us up on it. I hear you though; I'd like it if everyone was on-board for that, as protecting our minds is becoming higher and higher priority.

oh also i have to ask, were you expecting us to actually go through hell and save caius? or did a lot of the third chapter so far come out of nowhere for you?
Morgenstern 30th Aug 2017, 5:59 PM edit delete reply
Like 90% of the comic comes out of nowhere for me

I didn't give Caius a name until somebody asked for it, if that tells you anything

rofl, fair enough. i get the feeling this whole thing is like a strange kind of tabletop rpg dming experience on your end. i honestly am really enjoying the experience, though! it's been a lot of fun!
Morgenstern 30th Aug 2017, 6:11 PM edit delete reply
Thanks! And it is exaaactly like that. I've done a... ridiculous amount of DMing over the years (and written a couple of books), so I'm not completely new to pulling whole plot points and characters out of thin air. It's actually a nice change of pace--if somebody asks a question, I get at least an hour or more to think about it, compared to a tabletop setting where I need to toss out something right then and there.

oh man, that's so cool! i'm gonna have to take a better look at that later. i read "magical girls" and "mecha pilots" and i'm so down. my friends and i do a fair bit of tabletop. lately we've been playing Kevin Crawford's Godbound, it's been a fun ride. right now, our party is working through a giant self-expanding city inspired by the manga Blame!.

It's so rare to find another Blame! fan.

To quote Kirby: "HiiIIIiii!!"

SAFELY learn how to mimic and amplify Level's effects without the side effects

After some reconnaissance to make sure nobody is camping out around your house (there Were cops there that had to be dealt with last time) Go back to the secure room in your house to have a talk with mom's Red and our own about that a whole regeneration thing and if we can do anything about our current hearing issue/shoulder.

Set up a secure area to hold a supply dump of weapons, ammo, armour, etc. that you have found/will buy/will find and can draw on as needed. Inventory check and identify things to get as able. For example: duct tape, syringes, flameproof clothing, a can of Raid, rope, handcuffs.
WalkerOfSorrow 30th Aug 2017, 7:38 PM edit delete reply
We sure make a lot of use of Level effects, real or simulated. And now that we've had recent experience using it to help us regenerate, I think we can make some headway there.

Recon is totally wise. Talking with our mom's Red is a good idea, as is talking to ours. An inventory check and grocery trip would certainly do us wonders.

Apologize to Caius for dragging him into all this stuff.
Mochi 30th Aug 2017, 8:42 PM edit delete reply
yeeeah... i mean, at this point i think he's probably fine with it, but a straight-up apology probably wouldn't be a bad thing to do. everyone else had the opportunity to make their own decisions about us, but caius didn't really have a choice in the matter. we did give him an out, though, and he didn't take it, which means he's also made his own decision, but still. a "sorry i got you kidnapped, tied up, and harassed by mutants" wouldn't be out of line.

<3 Breakfast. Also, Caius looks better without hair, I am happy he shaved his head XD

Could we ask Fuse about the safest way to figure out the mysterious number on Tiger-mask's phone?
Mochi 30th Aug 2017, 9:19 PM edit delete reply
he looks Different and Unique now, just like michelle! now we just need to get him clothes that aren't the remains of his club elegance uniform and he'll be good to go.

Just want to encourage anyone who reads this to help spread the word of MM's webcomics (Dirty Drift and/or Blood is Mine) if you can't support financially. :) Statistically speaking, 1% or less of a total readership for a webcomic will/can pitch in monetarily to support it, so the best thing you can do - regardless of whether you can give monies or not - is to help increase the size of readership. So spread the word!
