You don't completely understand how level works, but you know it--at the very least--alters the signals of transmitters in the brain, and changes neurochemical levels. You don't think you can copy it perfectly, but you can get close to imitating its basic hypnotic/sedative effect.
You affect Macland as though he were dosed with painkillers and bad level.
You're not too certain how much this will weaken the process he's being put through, but you're sure it's better than nothing.
right, back to the guard. he's not dead yet, which is a good start. i'd suggest letting finch know what's going on with macland. also, i still think we should sync with the guard and try to get across the fact that we're trying to help him.
Agreed to the "let finch know" part. However, bear in mind that syncing generally means making use of his abilities, or him making use of ours. We can only read his thoughts after we do so, and he can draw on what we know. But where we're at right now, unsynced, we can still make him think things, and make him say things.
Not to go meta, but if we take the Persona approach, it might be better. Put the thought in his head that he has the power inside him to become free and escape this situation. Put the thought in his head that in order to awaken that power, he must "open his mind" and "embrace change in whatever form it may take." To signal he has done so and is ready, he must clench his fists and nod his head, as a physical sign of readiness.
Any takers? I feel bad making that much of a suggestion.
Edit: As far as the signal goes, my thinking was that the Prophet turned his back and the Bane-a-like won't notice the signal. Better than saying "Yes" or "I ACCEPT THE CHANGE" out loud.
To be practical, I'm not sure what knowing about our intentions are at this point would do for the guard. Being tied up and blindfolded while in a room with something that could pretty much kill him by just flicking him with his pinky-finger kind of puts him at a massive disadvantage regardless of how he feels about us. Syncing with him unfortunately doesn't help him out in that regard, in terms of syncing abilities; we don't have anything that would specifically get him out of this mess, at least, nothing I can think of. :'D
If we could 'awaken' a power in the guard Persona-style, that'd be cool, but it'd have to be enough to overpower Bane-a-like and I'm kind of unsure. >_>; I think the most we could do is cause an adrenaline rush, but would that be enough?
Michelle and Fuse agree that this whole thing feels like a trap, and we do want to avoid walking right into it. I'm still kind of hoping for a diversion tactic. Smoke bombs maybe?
You know what we need to do next time? We need to get pints of our blood in storage and carry it around for convenient blood portalling, that's what. -v-;;;; (Though I guess we should practice that first. And have plenty of digestive biscuits and fruit juice ready for replenishing our massive blood donations XD)
I think, if I'm interpreting correctly, the strong push for syncing with someone new is that we need an edge -- an ally on the inside. Because if any of Team Doe get in there, the trap springs. But we have two blooded people already in there, and Mac is definitely the inferior option.
I don't so much mean awakening a power in the guard and breaking free. I'm more saying that this could be a good way to get the guard on our side instead of puppet-stringing him. Neither the guard nor Mac know what has been done to them, while Michelle, Finch, and Fuse witnessed the injection. So we have this opportunity to convince the blood, and the voice in his head, is part of himself. He's "not a thrall," he's being directed by his own ability to survive. You know how in Naruto, koto-amatsu-kami works by mind controlling people without them knowing they're being controlled? I'm proposing a similar thing for now: let him think the blood and our voice is just him.
On a side note, our blood IS immune to the regular congealing process. Normal blood can't just be stockpiled because it breaks down. But our blood is the same on our sheets as it is in our veins. So this "store up pints" thing is a great long-term plan.
I don't really see eye-to-eye with the smoke bombs (yet) but I do agree that we need a forward plan. The time for espionage is over (or the end fast approaching). Mac is squared away for now. The guard needs a solution.
Edit: If necessary after syncing, we can let the guard think that our more active presence and the leaching of knowledge from our head is a split personality manifesting due to his mind splintering under stress. That defensive survival part of him taken a more interactive form.
I think I'm confused about what the point of syncing is right this second XD;;; I'm not opposed to it in general, it's more of a matter of 'does this help him right now?'
I'm not full-on with smoke bombs either frankly but not sure *what* to do. Fuse and Michelle, if you guys have any ideas, now would be a great time to say something, JUST SAYING. XD;;;
Yes, definitely speak up, Team Doe. We need the peanut gallery to weigh in.
I'm sure others have suggestions as to the point of syncing with the guard, but all I'm thinking is that it helps us vis-a-vis the acquisition of a new agent on the inside. Fuse and Michelle can't really give their two cents on Prophet and Bane-a-like, so all we've got to go on is our own thoughts. Having the guard to inform us would be quite helpful, potentially. As to helping him, he's probably scared and confused, especially since he keeps passing out for seemingly no reason. Guy seems tough; he probably hasn't fainted before today. So being able to monitor his thoughts and help keep him composed will help him mentally, if nothing else.
here's a reason: the only way we're getting him out, if we get him out at all, is through a door. the only door we know of is the front door, which is currently being guarded by prophet and/or TH's men. if there is another door and we haven't seen it just going around the building, there's a chance he might have seen it before he was made to pass out and blindfolded.
also, yeah. if it were me tied up in a warehouse, threatened with illicit drugs, blindfolded, passing out for no reason, forced to speak (and not of my own free will), and suddenly developing a debilitating phobia of needles, i'd be pretty fucking terrified. and knowing that he's not alone and that there are people trying to figure out how to help him might help. we don't even actually know how he's handling this, we haven't even checked on him aside from verifying that he's still alive.
Alright, I updated the fan data page - I think I'm mostly up to date now, but if you guys note something missing that might be useful, please pipe up :D
On something not entirely related to the comic, I wonder if in their era there are still eclipses to wow each other about, or if you need to be on the uppermost tiers of the city to view the sun without radioactive clouds nearby.
For the comic itself, I know Blondie/Brunettie/Jane can't control more than one person at a time, but can she sense the situation through both the guard & Macland's eyes simultaneously? Also, for Macland, is there a way to 'squeeze' the optic nerves some how, to turn him 'blind' temporarily to block the images without the other 2 in the room sensing something is wrong?
In a world where you can easily print and plop eyes as a "minor" procedure (which Jane did like a beer run), not a bad idea! I think our buddy boy Macland is covered, though. At least in the short-term. Also, I fear we may be running dangerously close to "Nothing we can say or do would make Macland a good sync"?
I wonder if it's the ponytail that's making him such a bad prospect. Maybe if we subliminally get him to change his hairstyle, he'll become more personable, and thus a better sync prospect. Especially if, since he already knows we're in his brain/blood, we can inform him about the lower-class group that TH has under control & is using to counter "Mac's" high-class group.
So I came late to this party from Mushroom GO webpage and have binged over the past few days. Rather than sync couldn't we just "Blood-o Phone" the guard? "Hey listen, we know your scared, you aren't alone we are outside. But we need a diversion to rescue you" kind of thing? Also since we can replicate drug effects can we somehow cause amnesia like when you drink to much? Would sure be handy for making people forget they were injected. Instead of "Don't talk about it" it would be a true you can't remember.
Yay, a fellow newbie! I have about the same exposure to Blood Is Mine as you, AlphaDragon, but I haven't read much of the author's other stuff.
We COULD Blood-o-phone him, but right now he's a guard on the enemy side, and would have more reason to oppose us if he knew why/how we were involved. Winning him over takes precedent to showing up, in my opinion. I think removing memories would be hard, but we could easily give him a simpler order like "Any time that you think about being injected, you will quickly shrug the idea off as paranoia and dismiss it for the time being."
