You try to perceive through the body of the dead bartender--but all you get is darkness. His body seems to have been stowed away somewhere.

You decide to check in on the guard you injected, and on Macland. Helpfully, they are in the same place at the moment. Your guard is strapped to a steel beam in what looks like a warehouse.

"Mackey, nothin' happened! I wouldn't lie to you, man!"

"No, you wouldn't," says Macland. "But that bitch nurse would." He motions to his scarred bodyguard, who pulls out a syringe filled with a thick, orange liquid. You recognize it as the drug chatter. Chatter is technically illegal--a "truth serum," of sorts, a hypnotic that alters higher brain functions. In short, it prevents lying and lowers inhibition with regard to speech.

Macland sighs as his scarred accomplice approaches your tied up guard, presumably to inject him. "You gotta understand... I need to clean house. No spies, supernatural or otherwise," says Macland. Though you've commanded your guard to act as if nothing happened, you doubt that will hold up against being medically induced to tell what happened. Once your guard is injected, it will take about one minute for chatter to take hold.

We could make the guard bite his own tongue off. I'm sure they will just bio-print a new tongue for him but it will at least buy us some time.

Cut off the circulation to his brain long enough for him to pass out.

I think we can actually force him to pass out and even prolong sleep, if I remember our skills correctly (when we learnt to imitate the effects of coffee).

Can our blood simulate an antidote to chatter, or somehow bind to it to prevent it from hitting the neurotransmitters it normally hits? Given the amount of control we have over our blood, we should theoretically be able to have it seek and bind to the chatter in the bloodstream. Then we can instruct our guard to pretend he's under the influence of chatter, except to conceal our involvement. Not sure what to have him say-- I guess we have 60 seconds to figure that out once it gets injected!

Also goddamn, we really need to figure out how to set "alarms" on our bloodfriends to notify us when certain things happen-- for when they're in danger, and we need to alarm Mac for when he talks about STQ or us, and when he does anything involving capturing/torturing/beating up/killing people. We shouldn't have let the bartender get killed.

Trying to juggle too many bloodfriends at once is a problem, which we may be able to mitigate a bit at least by automating certain things like that. Maybe our Red could provide some pointers for us.

I really want to be able to do that to chatter with our blood, but the question becomes whether we actually have enough time to learn how to do it before the guard has to talk. :'D

Hm... Since we have control of Macland as well, we could probably command him not to kill this guy, nor allow him to spill the beans to begin with -- but is there any real benefit to that?

Like, the more the merrier, but if we forced Macland to let him live, he'd still *know* the guy is infected; he'll just be forced to not do anything about it.

If there's no good reason to intervene, we may as well just let what happens happen.

i say we make our guard pass out, and then make macland shoot his guard in the fucking face. and then we go from there. he needs to know that he's not in charge any more.

...As much as I like taking the subtle approach, maybe we SHOULD make a show of force here. We are an eldritch monstrosity and he called us a bitch; that kinda stupidity maybe shouldn't go unpunished. It might be good to exercise our eldritch nature on someone who most certainly deserves it.

On the other hand, I don't necessarily wanna risk the guy we have who knows things. Maybe we should have him shoot his guard at a time when the guard is looking the other way, rather than looking in his direction.

I dunno, it's tough to decide... Maybe we should be more forward, because subtlety was what got the bartender killed? Maybe MORE people would've died if we hadn't been subtle? Maybe we need to try to make it so the ones who do end up dying are the shitty ones?

technically, his back is to us if he's moved to inject our guard with the chatter, so we can shoot him from behind.

I'm a fan of the passing out plan.

Maybe while we're at it we could accidentally on purpose have Macland spill the Chatter/break the syringe or something.
