Your phone vibrates.

It's Dr. Finch.

"I wasn't too sure how to contact you telepathically, so I called.

I'm a genius, and I've figured out what your cells are doing to these drugs.

Bear with me, yes? Yes.

Whenever a figurine gets shown at a convention, it's of impeccable quality. But, but but but, when that figurine goes out for sale it's much shoddier. The figure doesn't hold up as well and the paint job suffers tremendously. The prototype figure, put on display as a preview for potential buyers, is hand painted and meticulously crafted. The versions that are sold in stores are mass produced in a factory. Quantity over quality. For cost effectiveness. There's even flaws in them, sometimes.

Blood does this, too.

Specifically, red blood cells from a bio printer have a shoddy and uneven look to them. They're gross. Gross blood. Because they're not being meticulously hand crafted by hemocytoblasts, they're being pumped out of a machine.

Save the Queen has cells in it that are like your cells, but they're not. They do the same foldy bendy trick maneuver, pretending to be the hallucinogenic compound they're bundled with. That's why all the scientists trying to reverse engineer it can't figure out what it's made of--all they see is a tube full of military grade hallucinogens.

But, but but but... I've been looking at your blood. I'm accustomed to camouflage.

Save the Queen is regular drugs, and blood cells pretending to be regular drugs. They won't imitate ALL drugs, but the drugs used in Save the Queen are, themselves, derived from blood cells. So it's blood pretending to be a drug that used to be blood.

Here's the big but.

The sneaky blood cells in Save the Queen are not meticulously crafted. They're shoddy. Ugly blood. Many flaws. They're not made by hemocytoblasts, they're made in a machine somewhere. And... and and and. Your blood can see through their disguise.

Your blood calls their blood out. It's hilarious to watch.

That's why your control overrides Queen's. Your blood is better.

and here's the biggest but of all.

I hunted down some of your old medical records. You've been blood tested before. Before you died, even.

Your blood didn't do this before. It was sneaky blood, pretending to be B positive, but it acts like B positive blood. It doesn't bend or fold or put out electrical signals, which is something your blood cells do now and that bothers me because your blood cells are acting like neurons. But I digress.

Your blood cells started doing that because they saw Save the Queen doing it.

They learned the idea from Save the Queen.

And then started doing it better.

Your blood cells in Queen infected blood pretend to be the new blood type, but also continue doing the Save the Queen trick.

My point is, whoever is in control of all this... this isn't their blood. My theory is: they're engineering a blank slate version of the camouflage blood and then distributing it in Save the Queen. I believe you have control of anyone with your blood because you have a majority of your blood. Obviously. It's your blood. It stands to reason that whoever is controlling those with Save the Queen, has themselves a majority of their blood replaced with this artificially engineered control blood.

Which is mind boggling, because bio printer blood is bad. They would be extremely unhealthy."

So someone has replaced their blood with super unhealthy but mind-controlly faker blood. If there's any word on an eccentric millionaire who is super unhealthy but influential, we might have our suspect. Maybe we need Finch to skim the news for someone who matches that description

I guess it's arcade time? Our Red probably needs time to itself.

Also, hey egg.

So essentially, when someone tried to take over us, our blood recognized the threat and called it out after copying its powers.. That's funny.

We copied and did things better.

Still, the power is now effectively ours and whatever has our blood can be controlled/immune to Queen. That's good. We have knowledge.

Now what we need is the head of Queen itself. Maybe it's time to rendevouz with Michelle and talk to her about the discoveries we made.

Woah. Quantum-entangled blood. That also acts like neurons? Maybe our body was indeed brain-dead... but then our blood was like "Welp. Primary nervous system is down. Time to run backup protocols!"

That egg... was that egg ours? I mean, Mom had a non-human biology. Maybe we were hatched?
PurpleKetchup 6th Aug 2017, 4:47 AM edit delete reply
Eggshell, either ours or mom's, floating in blood... Touch the tube softly just in case she left a message for us.

Then time for the arcade.

Oh, also give your Red more slack and try stretching your limbs a bit. Better get used to our special dispositions out of critical moments.

Go back up and create a Plan with Everyone before going to the Arcade
Espylacopa 6th Aug 2017, 5:37 AM edit delete reply
What's with the shell?
Macheman7 6th Aug 2017, 5:46 AM edit delete reply
Oh good, I'm caught up!
I'm liking Our Red more, but I still don't entirely trust it, because it was trying to freak us out and stuff at the beginning. We were kinda interrupted anyway, but we really do need to go to the Arcade, because every second we spend doing something else might be our contact's last moments.
Also? Seriously. Give Michelle a hug, or something. She must be pretty lonely up there. Fill her and Finch in while you're at it.
Vahno 6th Aug 2017, 8:48 AM edit delete reply
...shit. What are we gonna tell Michelle and the others? That... You're only half human? know what. You should tell them. I mean, it's only fair... And... you'll figure out a way to pull your blood out when it's all over. Stick a syringe in them and pull out Your Blood or something. But for now... We're done here, more of less. Time for Grizwald.

> Consider that the architect of the Queen Blood likely does not know what they're playing with. Your Mother was an all devouring goddess pretending to be a human woman. The mind control aspects of her (and your) powers are incidental, a byproduct of your interdimensional biology.

It's likely that the people who created the Queen Blood did so exclusively for those mind control powers, as there's precious little benefit in building an artificial all devouring horrorterror just for lols, and the spreading of the blood through the underground drug trade suggests an attempt to impose control, not unleash Armageddon.

The point I'm getting at is, the person who is the host of the Queen Blood is not themselves, the Queen. If the Queen Blood awakens (acquires it's own 'red') this could be doubleplusungood for humanity. A catalyst for this happening might be the death of it's host. Even if you track down the current host of the Queen, killing them is probably not a good idea, if you're still into the idea of humanity existing.

Worse still, you do need to find this person really quickly, because like Dr. Finch just said, the Queen Blood is really bad at actually being blood, and this person might just up and die on you if you don't find them soon.

I also vote for poke the egg before we head back up, chat with Michelle and mentally communicate with Dr. Finch/Fuse about the latest in what you understand of your blood/identity, and arcade-time fo sho. (I think it's fine at this point to ell them we're half-human, it explains a lot and also they kind of deserve to know they've got alien blood in their system now lol)

Something felt weird... then it hit me.
Jane and Red have both eyes intact and uncovered. Unacceptable (j/k)!

@PurpleKetchup: I know it's weird, but if you check the scene, Red has both eyes intact! :'D (I didn't actually draw Jane's eyes this time XD)

Ooooh... Oooh.
When I look at this?

I feel like sittng in a corner with a cup of cocoa staring at this for a lil bit.
Looking up through the glass at the stars above, then rolling under my blanket and falling to sleep curled in a cozy corner. Counting the fireflies and shooting stars as they drift overhead.

Aww! <3 That's a beautiful comment in itself XD <33

This scene gave me all the feels, so I'm happy if it's able to express even a bit of the original's feels -v- <33

These panels are phenomenal! I don't know exactly how much further I need to read to catch up, but I am equally excited to see what other beautiful fanarts you've cooked up over the months as I am to read this great story!
