You try on Michelle what you did with Dr. Finch: you mentally force her to think about what you're about to do.

You command the sheet to launch itself at the cop's face. Michelle is already moving.

Both of them fire their guns.

Two bullets take to the air.

One grazes Michelle's arm.

The other goes firmly into the sheet. The officer's body hits the floor, and Michelle fires another round into his head to be sure.

You crawl out of the vent, and Fuse emerges behind you. Michelle wipes the tears and the sweat from her face, still looking furious. "Now what? What do we do?"

"First--" Fuse is the first to speak. He slips the visor from his face, staring at the room with his eyes exposed. "First there's a lock downstairs that we need your help with. After that, you're going to help me load these bodies into your truck, and I'm taking them to the lower tiers."

Michelle's eyes grow wide. "No. You're fuckin' crazy."

"YES, THAT IS THE PLAN. Okay? I know a guy--" "--Fuse, I'm not gonna let you--" "--I KNOW A GUY that owes me a favor and doesn't do DRUGS, I am taking these GOD DAMN bodies and nobody in this room needs to know what's going to happen to them!"

There's the briefest of pauses. Michelle and Fuse look like they could kill each other. Michelle breaks the silence.

"What if they stop you? What if you get caught?"

"Then I go to jail. Whatever SHE is--" Fuse points at you, "--and whatever's down there is bigger than me. I'm not going to leave two dead cops in her house when I know I can do something about it."

"Fuse, this is stupid--"

"MY. BEST. FRIEND. The guy I grew up with, the guy that I used to smoke level and play video games with, killed a bunch of people and tried to do more. These cops? I KNOW THESE COPS. I see these cops all the time! Read the writing on the FUCKING wall, Michelle! The only prophecy around here with HALF a chance of coming true is that I am destined, DESTINED, to get myself killed or thrown in prison like every other piece of bottom tier GARBAGE, the LEAST I can do... the least I can do is go down doing something noble.

For God's sakes, somebody needs to."

There's another, longer pause. Fuse puts his visor back on before he continues.

"I can't make up for what Howler did, but I can try. And it's not like I'm planning to get caught, alright? This isn't my first rodeo. I won't get caught. Just let me do this."

D: Fuse....

I don't want him to go down. Oh geez. There has to be something we can do to secure his safety at the very least, or find another way to get rid of the bodies, because this is really not cool. It's not his fault that Howler did all that stuff and he shouldn't feel like he's trash. Gosh darn it, Fuse, no. ;______;

Would dOing Blood teleporting be good enough?
rufiangel 5th Aug 2017, 5:16 AM edit delete reply
While that certainly sounds like a good idea in theory, I think it literally takes a pool of Jane's blood for that to work, and I don't know if we're capable of recovering after losing that much blood without entering some weird comatose state that induces temporary amnesia (like we had at the start of this I think :'D). Though if it IS possible it certainly sounds like a plan. >_>;

Fuse knows the streets and knows the risks of what he's doing. Let him do it. He's also right that we really don't need bodies of cops to be found in Jane's house. That will just give us even more shit to shovel through to get the job done.

THAT SAID: Nothing cannot be challenged or changed, hell even the things written in stone can be amended... or outright shattered when enough push comes to shove. I mean, history's got at least half a dozen street rats that somehow wound up in positions of power through their own sweat, blood and tears. And I'm fairly certain I'm low-balling that number way too damn low to do those people justice. Point is, fate is meant to be challenged when you're dealt a bad starting hand. I'd say that it's meant to be challenged period but some people start out with some pretty sweet stuff and just have to be a bit wise in how they use it so they don't loose it.

Oh and give Fuse a syringe of Jane's blood before he goes. Just because his friend doesn't do drugs doesn't mean he didn't get stuck by a syringe of Queen against his will.

Attempt to sync with Michelle and bleed on the Locked Door

Ah. I guess we should check Michelle's arm while we're at it because it got grazed.
Xylas_Incarnum 5th Aug 2017, 5:29 AM edit delete reply
.... Wait a moment, Jane's blood was still wet on those sheets despite it being something like a full day or more since she bled on them. it should have been completely dry and a bit crusty before we got here. Can Jane try drawing the blood out of the cloth into free form tendril things? if she can do that, then maybe she can also make needles to infect people with so we don't have to rely on syringes so damn much.

Yeah, blood that can alter its erythrocyte surface antigens doesn't really care about normal clotting. It can do that whenever (even inside blood vessels).

I don't really see how Michelle can reach the hidden room without blowing a hole in the floor somewhere.
... She was controlled when she saw Jane come out of the vent, so the secret room is not really secret anymore, which means there's no time to waste.
I'm stumped.

Michelle should at least help Fuse carry (and loot) the bodies.

Do not linger too long. The dirty cops were probably waiting for Jane to come back home, which is why they came so fast. Reinforcements will come in soon (upper tiers likely have way more cops available) to 'investigate the gunshots'.

If there's no way to get Michelle down quickly, grab some food and leave. Time to hit that Rockwell arcade.

I don't think Michelle has to actually be in the room for us to sync to her. Given what Fuse said, I think he wants us to actually deal with the lock thing first before dealing with the bodies, precisely because there's no other time to try it other than right now. I think it's worth trying to unlock right here and now - if it seems like it'll take too long, we'll skidaddle I guess?
PurpleKetchup 5th Aug 2017, 5:35 AM edit delete reply
A 3-person remote bridging sync right after falling down a vent and twisting her neck, shortly after a drug trip ?
Sure, why not.
Xylas_Incarnum 5th Aug 2017, 5:40 AM edit delete reply
well that neck bit only happened because Jane didn't have the time to focus on going down normally.
Xylas_Incarnum 5th Aug 2017, 5:39 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, if we can't unlock it now we should come back later to see if the job's been done for us. Though the thing is, Queen doesn't really know if anything else is down there right now. For all it knows we were searching perfectly normal duct work.......
Yeah I know, wishful thinking. Anyways if it hasn't been busted open by the Queen's drones then we should have a crowbar and maybe some kind of blasting charges to open it up when we get back. WE should scrounge for another couple of syringes in the house before we leave though. Fuse is going to need one just in case and our needing them has come up twice so far. Best to have numbers 3 and 4 ready for use like number 1.

By the way, am I alone in wanting to see this conversation get sprites to go with it? This is one of those moments that really needs pictures to boost the feels.
... something like that at any rate.

I might be wrong, but... I think it's 4:39am on that timestamp when this post went up XD;;; if that's in Matthew's timezone, then I can understand why there aren't any sprites, LOL

Though yes, if they're added later that would certainly be lovely -v-

I didn't want to spoil the outcome of the gunfight by frontloading the image.

The next one might make up for it, I think.
rufiangel 5th Aug 2017, 6:02 AM edit delete reply
OHHHH I see! That makes sense. <3 The next one did make up for it, seeing that sheet-swaddled cop was pretty cool XD

Thank you for keeping this up so late!!! ;v;*
