You quickly hand your scalpel to Red, who helps finish cutting Science-Mine free. The two of them resume holding onto you, trying to keep you from being pulled under by Fear-Mine.

"You can't just hide everyone away!," Science-Mine yells. "It's not a permanent solution! It wouldn't save the rest of the world, it wouldn't stop Thale!"

You kick and squirm, but you feel the hands from the floor beginning to bandage your legs together.

"More importantly, it's not what we want!," yells Red. "It's not what our friends want! They wouldn't let us put them in a cage if we wanted to!"

More hands emerge, grabbing at the ankles of Red and Science-Mine. They kick them away, but start to lose their grip on you as they fight for their own ground.

Your wrists are pulled out of the grasp of the other yous by Fear-Mine's numerous arms. They start to go for the bandages, however--

the big, angry you comes barreling in. She shouts, somewhat incoherently... and takes a firm hold of several arms at once, beginning to rip the Fear-Mine out of the floor. The arms relinquish you, too busy focusing on trying to keep the main body of your fear rooted out of sight.

...To no avail.

Fear-Mine is pulled up from the floor. Well, a significant portion of her.

"They can handle themselves," says Visor-Mine. "We can handle ourselves. ...We can be sure of it. We take every precaution necessary to keep everyone alive, always."

"If we really want our friends to be safe..." Red states, "we have to stop Thale. For good. No amount of hiding will matter until he's done chasing us."

"Once Thale's gone..." Nurse-Mine says, nervously, from the doorway, "...we won't need to hide anymore. Our friends will be free. They can just... live."

Fear-Mine glances aside, but doesn't say anything. She's not... a rational part of you, just pure emotional instinct, just untamed desire with no logic to it. Still... she does seem to have calmed down.

And now that the fighting's over, you're getting a long, hard stare from Science-Mine.

"Right?," Red says with almost a chuckle, also having another glance at you. "We have no idea which one this is. She looks tired, that's all I got."

"She looks old," Nurse-Mine says, a little sadly.

"...Of course she does," Science-Mine finally replies, her expression softening. "She is old. Millions of years old, at the the, the bare minimum."

There's... some confusion among you all, the various aspects of yourself looking at each other with lost expressions.

Science-Mine adjusts her glasses. "She's generation after generation of evolution and adaptation. She's... she's human tenacity, she's gut instinct, she's blind luck. This is a woman lifting a car off her child, this is a man slicing his own arm off to avoid dying in the mountains, this... of course she looks tired. This part of us has been more or less steering the ship since the moment we woke up in the hospital."

Science-Mine sighs a bit to herself, shoving her hands in her coat pockets. "We should all pray that soon she won't have to. This part of us shouldn't... be this haggard. We've been running on our staunch refusal to die for almost two months now."

...After some pause, Science-Mine just sort of... staring into space for a moment, she shakes her head, snapping out of her thoughts. "Oh, and hello. I'm our curiosity, our inward pondering, rational detachment, all that business. ...Rather heavily modified by our time spent synced to Dr. Finch, of course."

That includes you, Fear-Mine.

We're not finished in the mindscape yet, but this is indeed at last a good time for a group hug. The things we do for hugs...

Next step after that would be to open that skin door in the hallway, I think. On the way, ask if any of the other selves are aware of... other monster-selves, just in case.
Cyanic 19th Jun 2018, 9:13 PM edit delete reply
I agree with asking for other possible monsterMines (actually agree with all above)

And for once, we know for a fact that everyone in the room is also a hugger.

+1 group hug

A hug, comfort, is what Fear Mine needs the most right now. If words won't fully get through, feelings will. <3
Caydenite 19th Jun 2018, 9:06 PM edit delete reply
Verbally and, if possible, physically reassure Fear. Yes, I mean hug, if it won't scare her. Then ask the gathered Mines for advice on what they know and how to proceed.
Cyanic 19th Jun 2018, 9:11 PM edit delete reply
Before we group hug and recombine ourselves, let's have a roll-call, all the Mine's together as they step into the hug?

EDIT: not actually recombine ourselves yet, but still group hug
Twelveseal 19th Jun 2018, 11:11 PM edit delete reply
Not sure we have all the Mines yet, tbh. Or how we group hug the wall. I suspect we have to get them all back to that first room somehow.
Lu!dot 19th Jun 2018, 9:15 PM edit delete reply
yo after hugs and all that lets go through the next skin door.
yeah theres still one more to cut through in that hallway, we didnt go through it yet.
Madd 19th Jun 2018, 9:29 PM edit delete reply
Cut the next skin door and bring everyone with us.
ReikoLupus 19th Jun 2018, 9:41 PM edit delete reply
Hug Red!Mine, Visor!Mine, Science!Mine, and Fear!Mine.

PD: Fear!Mine is prettier than I expected XD.
Akasha 19th Jun 2018, 9:52 PM edit delete reply
Right, then! We've made some good progress, though we're not quite done yet. Time to see what lies beyond the other skin door.
Waddle Dee 19th Jun 2018, 10:40 PM edit delete reply
Firstly, GROUP HUG, then all head through that last skin-covered door.
Barswanian 19th Jun 2018, 10:47 PM edit delete reply
Don't we need to get back to our youth? Above? Recruiting Fearmine might let us get there?
pkrankow 19th Jun 2018, 10:52 PM edit delete reply
Good possibility the last door takes us there. If that doesnt work, backup plan.
Blue_Elite 19th Jun 2018, 10:59 PM edit delete reply
We have to meat meet up with mouth!Mine as well anyway. No need to worry about young!Mine until we need everyone together.
Cuttlefish 19th Jun 2018, 11:54 PM edit delete reply
Make sure to thank rage-Mine, too!
Twelveseal 20th Jun 2018, 12:52 AM edit delete reply
No kidding. Dat strong girl save was perfect. Same for Visor, since she's the one that brought her over and saved us from a time-out in the floor.
Ablaze 20th Jun 2018, 6:41 AM edit delete reply
We need to head into the last room. I think we're still missing a couple of important mines. My guess is they would take the forms of Michelle and Caius.
1977 20th Jun 2018, 7:03 AM edit delete reply
You think there may be a Macland!Mine as well?
If so then she thinks most about mmmmmmmoney.
Twelveseal 20th Jun 2018, 8:07 AM edit delete reply
Nah, MacMine only thinks about how awesome Mine is.

Caius would probably be courage, in part because of his tendency to act first and think second. Michelle... let's leave that to the imagination~
mr. thought 20th Jun 2018, 8:44 AM edit delete reply
I think we should ask where the last door leads and if there are any other Mines out there we need to know about before we open up the skin door but yes I agree. Group Hug!

...why aren't we more concerned about the fact that the "main" Mine driving the ship has been the Survival Instinct?

Though it says something good about Mine that her Survival Instinct wants everyone to live, not just herself.
wierdweblurker 20th Jun 2018, 11:53 AM edit delete reply
It is concerning, yes. Even the other Mines know that it isn't healthy. That said, with the amount of enemies we have, we can't afford to not leave tenacity in control.
Twelveseal 20th Jun 2018, 11:59 AM edit delete reply
Honestly? I'd say it's because it makes sense. I'm more concerned by the fact that it's worn out. Mine's survival instincts are getting tired of keeping everyone alive. Not in principle, ofc, but in ability. She's dealing with too much and needs help coping with the heavy demands of just... not dying.
