Caius calls Jury, and starts to fill her in on everything you've learned Thale can do--and the possible dangers of holding Hope. Also, to find out how the feds are handling the situation, in general.

Fuse builds up the nerve to use the translation device the trading ritual provided, and continue work on cracking the bunkers. Dr. Finch returns to fiddling with the eye implant, the acidic spider-monster, and everything else in the lab area. Michelle just... takes it easy. In general, everyone's focused on keeping it light before bed--nothing too involving, just some idle tasks to round the day out.

You take to working on Elizabeth some more, putting more effort into... er, normalizing her skeletal structure, and fixing some of Thale's oversights. You make a lot of progress--after all the crazy things you've been using your powers for lately, this suddenly seems a lot easier.

After getting a lot done--and once it starts to get pretty late--you give Liz a hug.

She sighs. "I understand that I'm useful to you. You're not obligated to befriend me, though, let alone hug me. Is this a balancing mechanism? Is this how you remind yourself of your humanity? Hugs?"

You shake your head. You were a hugger looong before all this started.

"Oh," she replies. "It's habitual."

You probably got it from your parents. They were very huggy, especially your mom. ...She kind of just liked contact a bunch. You remember her just... touching things, for the sake of touching them. She'd get distracted by interesting surfaces.

It's on a big list of things that should have been a red flag, if you hadn't grown up with and gotten used to it. Tactile sensation at the human scale had to have been a relatively new experience for her. Most of her existence was likely spent without hugs, or... hands, even. So it became a big deal when she stopped being A Fragment and started being A Person--something as minor as cupping another person's face in her hands may have felt pretty novel.

"Worse, then," Liz says. "It's genetic." Her tone is disdainful, almost disgusted, but... you can tell she's intentionally hamming it up, as much as Liz can. It's an odd humor, but humor nonetheless... and that's progress.

Even if she still doesn't hug you back.

You lay in bed, and read through the cat magazine you found in Bunker X. There are some extremely chubby kittens in this magazine.

You fall asleep thinking about chunky cats.

What will you do tomorrow?

I think it's finally time for Incident F!

...We should also probably think about excising Nil from Macland once and for all. When we first encountered the problem, we were fairly convinced it would be a massive challenge. But now that we've grown so much in power, while Nil has been sitting around *not* being a human who can learn things in bursts, it would likely be significantly easier.

EDIT: Also, don't forget morning meditation!

I feel like this might also be a good time to start on our memetic warfare project against Thale. By carefully crafting jokes that drive home the idea that Patton Thale is a specific person with one physical body, we can injure his ability to consider the bodies of all of his thralls "his," or possibly at least enhance the resistance of Queened subjects to his mental manipulation.

I think the best way to do this would be to craft what *appears* to be a botched shilling/marketing campaign. The first phase of the plan is to spam messageboards and forums (or hire people to do so-- what are the going rates for Internet shills from future-Russia?) with weirdly glowing messages about Thale's companies that also include messages like, "Plus, Patton Thale is a very attractive man! He has a firm jawline!" "Patton Thale is an excellent businessman with attractive eyes!" The sort of thing that looks like blatant but very weird shilling. This might get people started talking about "why is Patton Thale hiring people to advertise his companies by saying he's attractive?"

The second step would be to start graffiti-ing these sorts of messages around the city, and the third step would be to purchase actual ad space and ad slots on the web, in whatever print media still exist, perhaps even on TV if we can get the funding together, to run ads along this same theme that are blatantly unusual enough to get people talking about them.

The end goal would be to get people talking about Patton Thale's weird obsession with his personal physique, maybe even to the level of being something they use in conversation as a sarcastic response. (A possible example: "My new girlfriend is so hot, I wish you could meet her but she goes to another school!" "Suuuuure, and Patton Thale has shapely feet.")

Anyway, the first step of this is something that we could have folks working on while Mine is doing Incident F, since our buddies aren't exactly gonna be able to help her be a ghost any better than she could on her own.

As strange as this sounds, I think it will actually accomplish something. I am looking forward to doing this, but first let's deal with Incident F.
Istyatur 9th Jun 2018, 6:32 PM edit delete reply
That so crazy it just might work... but incident f first. Barring a new need to throw a wrench into thales plans, incident f is our next task.

Everything in steps. We've done 2 forced syncs. One might have almost gotten us killed. The other definitely almost got us killed. Let's try getting to a point where almost being killed stops happening.
My advice for a first step would be to do a forced sync on an awake Michelle. Now that Macland is going to be an ally, let's see if there's a huge difference between conscious and unconscious (there wasn't between an unconscious ally and an unconscious enemy). After we get those results we can try experimenting with the syncee manipulating their mind world to our advantage and the syncer (Jane) trying to put up a mental defense or wall to prevent Nil from invading again (if either of those are even possible).
fellow 9th Jun 2018, 7:47 PM edit delete reply
Macland still has nil in him. Syncing with him is a very bad idea.
Ablaze 9th Jun 2018, 7:22 AM edit delete reply
That's pretty clever the memetic warfare. You could fake register "patton thale" as a sleazy politician running for an election. That would surely piss him off though... hehe.
pkrankow 9th Jun 2018, 7:59 AM edit delete reply
Clever. See if this can be done. We have contacts in england who can help. Get several different groups hired in on it if possible. Bad translations might be good in this case.

Yes, Incident F.
ReikoLupus 9th Jun 2018, 10:46 AM edit delete reply
Your idea is as crazy that it MUST work to some level XD.
We need to do this in some moment XD.

If we make the name, Patton Thale, unusable he may move on from that identity and start being one of his "children".
Leafia_Barrett 11th Jun 2018, 12:54 AM edit delete reply
I'm still not 100% sold on the Patton Thale memetic warfare, but when the opportunity presents itself, it might work. Can't hurt to try I guess?

Also, yes, meditation sounds wise.
Twelveseal 11th Jun 2018, 2:43 AM edit delete reply
I rather like the memetic warfare concept. It's a long-term strategy that may hinder his ability to spread and control others. However, we may want to also try bringing the names of the other Thales into the limelight as well, reinforcing their identities in an attempt to fragment his control over them. Even bringing up his original name may have an impact.

Incident F, the Fuse that, now, will never be said it's worth it.

Also maybe work on "Project Space Car".
Swagner 9th Jun 2018, 2:54 AM edit delete reply
Also, testing the sketchier ammos in the arctic and/or on mars. We could probably get some really useful ballistics data from using meat walls as targets.
Espylacopa 9th Jun 2018, 3:06 AM edit delete reply
Yeah. If we do that we should set up our targets before the ghosty business cause we'll probably be too tired to want to afterward.
Cyanic 9th Jun 2018, 12:34 AM edit delete reply
To do list:
*Get breakfast
*Ask MomRed about stuff, bloodspeech, the storage, how it's doing, all that
*Create some bone in the red and some muscle in the red, hold them both with our hands and see if we can control them like we can with the bandages and feel through them
*Prepare ourselves to Incident F, so we can get that whole deal sorted and grab the power cells without feeling like we're using Faraday to power Ilworth
*try to externalize Red in the afternoon after some rest
Skullrama 9th Jun 2018, 12:59 AM edit delete reply
Agree with pretty much all of this - we have time to do a simple experiment and chat with Mom's Red before we go do incident F. We maaaay end up too exhausted from that to do anything else after, so spending a little morning time seems fine.

Prepare to do Incident F!

We should put one thing before everything else on the agenda, if only for the sake of simplicity. After Incident F is completed, we can finish off the small tasks at the end of the day.

Also: I'm so active in the comments because I like seeing the cat gif am really enjoying this comic! and also have to much time on my hands

First Mine's favourite breakfast + icecream then Incident F.
The Mars family could clean Ilworth up a bit so that we can finally use it.

Things to do in Ilworth are investigating the ghostspots and cleaning an area for the tradingcircle so we can finally trade up all the bikes, cars, trucks, tanks, fighterjets and all the other stuff that got abandoned in Ilworth.

I'm still thinking we should trade up bioprinters.
We aquire them in southden, probably with the help of the deck if necessary.
A bioprinter from the Tradesmen should be capable of producing perfect bodies and parts.
That's probably the solution to the brainproblem discussed earlier.
Normal bioprinters can't copy/print a working brain but the Tradesmenbioprinter can.
Barswanian 9th Jun 2018, 2:01 AM edit delete reply
We should work out an alarm system for our allies to contact Mine; each in the know should have a vial of blood.

Only one blood alarm means we're going to miss things when Thale strikes back, and he will, with everything he's got. We'll be split up at some point, and we need to have a way to insure everyone's safety, or at least give them a fighting chance.

Also: we need to try and save our monster man in the red.
Blue_Elite 9th Jun 2018, 4:37 AM edit delete reply
I'd like to propose as a project to the blood portaling idea that is so popular that getting either fixed!Knox or the Knoxstrocity out of the red would be a good first step (actually it's a pretty terrible first step but I'd rather have a physically/mentally broken Knox than someone we care about like one of our rats).

Still recommending cereal for breakfast if it's an option.

Let's finally get Incident F done. We're going to need someone to accompany Jane to load ghost!Jane into the Project Odin machine. I'd recommend Caius (just because he's so skilled with his hands) and Dr. Finch to monitor/activate the whole thing. Will have to wing it from there to try and resolve the matter.
If everything works out and we're able to get Faraday back to her normal self, double ghost hug with Faraday and Tesla.

I have a plan for releasing Edison: We'll want Caius on point to actually release her (for the same reasons as specified above) and Jane in ghost mode to restrain Edison at first as we know being in the canister puts one in hibernation. We'll also want both Faraday and Tesla around to try and talk Edison down. If everything goes smoothly - group ghost hug.
For obvious reasons, if Jane is completely drained by Incident F, releasing Edison can wait until Jane has recovered. Also, we may want to buy a sewing kit and some sewing projects so Edison has something to do/won't get up to mischief.

With the Faraday matter resolved, next we could get the power restored to the Ilworth power plant and see about moving the Mars bunker refugees into the Ilworth fallback base (we may need to see about getting running water to it first after getting the power back though).

EDIT: Just to give everyone something to do: Fuse can continue to work on getting that supercomputer up and running (the sooner we can get that going as a background project the better) and Michelle could take the Mars Bunker refugees out to Ilworth again to try and get that place in livable condition. Elizabeth might want to give the physical improvements we made on her a spin and help out with Ilworth (but that's up to her).

While we're handing out misc. tasks to everyone, see if Pierce can refine that bone armor spell.

Elizabeth honing her snarking skills is pretty endearing.
Gives me hope about Mine being able to help other oversynced victims.
Fishbulb 9th Jun 2018, 9:02 AM edit delete reply
If there are people that aren't going to be busy, let's have them work on finishing making Ilworth habitable. Maybe Fuse and Liz could search for some solar panels or a gas generator (or the in-universe equivalent), and Caius and Michelle could finish repairs on some of the houses.
ReikoLupus 9th Jun 2018, 10:50 AM edit delete reply
Let's get breakfast, and after that start with the Incident F.
And while we are at it:
-Fuse starts to work in the Alien Computer.
-Finch investigates the things from Floor 0.
-Michelle and Caius proceed with "Project Space-Car".
-Liz reads Geoangular Control. (Yes, I want her to be the "Witch" of our group XD. Imagine how Thale is going to feel when he discovers that we not only took from him one of the Mom-Clones, but we given her Powers that he can't understand XD)

We should get a ton of biology, physiology, and anatomy books and trade them up, hopefully get a brain-book that we can use while we fix up Elizabeth, and to make better structurally sound golems!

... We’ll give it to Finch and sync with him. xD

I wouldn’t see why not. It’s still a “human brain.” As long as we keep considering it that way it shouldn’t be an issue. Hell, we may be able to cleantex after even, as to not have to continually use it too often!
Swagner 9th Jun 2018, 10:32 PM edit delete reply
2 bucks says we get a superior anatomy book, but it's based on some future evolution of humans that doesn't exist yet.
pkrankow 9th Jun 2018, 10:49 PM edit delete reply
So we need to add drug texts, physiology, sports medicine, and all other sub specialty texts we can. At $100/ book this might get pricey.

Twelveseal 10th Jun 2018, 11:11 AM edit delete reply
All for fixing Faraday next, after some breakfast ofc.

Before we go pulling Knox out of the Red, we may want to go to Mars. Wouldn't put it past Thale to put some kind of tracker in the guy that somehow survived the transformation process.

We should consider those trades, especially the ones on anatomy, but also look into a separate one on genetics and animal biology. We may not have the expertise to replicate things like cuttlefish camo, but the Blood folds to match blood type and presumably genetic code, since it hasn't seemed to cause issues wih cell replication in Finch. We should be able to replicate non-human capabilities that way. Alternatively, since the Blood folds like that, but is also functioning as a brain, it may remember the genetic structures of things it's emulated. So far, we've been attempting to copy things through their structure as a complete object. We haven't tried using an existing genetic code as a blueprint and just growing specific parts from the Blood. It might be more efficient that way. If that works, we could theoretically use it to repair Mine's brain. Or, for that matter, grow additional ones and leave thrm in the Red to act as backup processors for our more complex power applications. Nothing wrong with Syncing those for a power boost or to run tandem Blood uses, unlike Thale's trick. We could even churn out spare bodies in case Mine or one of the crew needs a new one.

Also, Liz picking up the grimoire sounds nice. Maybe get her and Pierce working together. Though, then again, it might be interesting to see if he might have any ideas on ways to invert the ritual he used on Red. If we could use it to teleport into locations or gate things from the Red without having to infiltrate first, we'd have some wider options.
Leafia_Barrett 11th Jun 2018, 12:51 AM edit delete reply
This is all valid.
Blue_Elite 10th Jun 2018, 4:12 PM edit delete reply
I'm just going to throw this out there as a way to inspire ideas rather than as a recommendation: Gather a horde of healing medical supplies (not curing, relieving, etc. we want a very specific function) and see if we can trade them up for an advanced healer like a medical syringe or healing potion or spell.
As nice as our bioprinter is and all the ways we have to replace missing parts with seemingly more advanced parts, it'd be really nice to be able to treat minor wounds on the fly and without having to suffer through crippling injuries while on a mission (looking at you Bunker X). Also it may be a quick, easy, and riskless solution to the repairing brain damage problem.
Twelveseal 11th Jun 2018, 1:58 AM edit delete reply
My main concern with this is that it may end up as a single use. Not entirely sure how to get around that, except to maybe try to make an autoregenerator in the Red and trade that.

Hmmm... might be something to try figuring out how to make.
