Morgenstern
Everyone starts unloading. Fuse and Caius fire their handguns, and Michelle spins up the minigun. Armor piercing rounds tear through Knox's bone plating, the explosive rounds mixed in blowing large chunks out of his massive body.

He regenerates... fast. The haphazard way he's put together makes it easy to fill the gaps back in. It's... a terrible design for actual combat--he's not agile by any stretch of the imagination. He's just ... extremely good at making it down the stairs.

And that worries you. A lot.

Because he is making it down the stairs. Even as Knox's legs get blown out from under him, he just sort of... rolls, dully fumbling down the stairs until he has enough legs to resume running. He's just large enough, bone plated enough, and meaty enough that taking him out entirely is a tall order.

You have some of your own blood and meat on him, though. It got all over Knox when he drilled his way through your wall, and dove out the window.

You start to pull mass from that blood. Bone, but not joints. Thick fat. You steadily bog him down... and watch as his muscle density begins to increase. Thale is pushing, hard. He really wants Knox to get close enough for whatever the next stage in the plan is.

As a hailstorm of bullets and your fight to weigh him back reaches a peak, and Knox slows down almost to a stop... just for a second... you drop some of the meat from him, shift it all into blood, and open it as a portal. Knox steps in it, leg bones splintering as his hefty momentum tries to carry him forward still.

You use the blood portal to pull more... well, blood portal. Knox claws at the edges, digging at the stairs. He whips his long arm back... and you catch a hint of what Thale was going for.

The tendril-like appendage isn't full of extendable joints--it's not a whip, like the last time you saw this. You watch as the whip bends itself, prehensile, full of muscle. You watch as the end splits open in three ways, revealing jagged teeth, like some horrid snake. You see skin begin to decay where the long arm meets the rest of the body--preparation for it to detach.

You widen the portal before Knox can lash the serpent forward, and Knox plummets entirely into the red. You turn the portal back into a normal pool of blood, trapping Knox inside.

...There's a very long pause, the only sound that of heavy breathing from everyone involved.

Michelle starts to laugh. It's a small one at first, a scoff, a chuckle, but Fuse soon joins in. Caius is the last to realize what happened... and he starts to laugh as well.

"Holy SHIT, did that just happen?," Fuse manages to get out.

"Suck... it... Thale!," Caius yells, throwing a middle finger up to nowhere in particular.

"What? What'd I miss?," Grizwald asks from inside his cage.

Michelle slows her laugh to a wide grin, shaking her head. "Blondie just... dragged Thale's monster to hell. Just... dropped it in a big ol' hole. It was gonna do somethin', but uh... it didn't."

Ask Michelle to tell you if there's a threat, get Griz out.

Make sure knox isn't a threat to you. There might be repercussions for doing what we did.

We also might be able to turn Knox free of thale.

Check for thale or his secretary in building or out. Have raven follow them if possible.
Gigafreak 4th Jun 2018, 9:19 PM edit delete reply
The Thale clone and the secretary were trapped in the building; if they weren't used as material for the Knox monster, then they're still either in the back hallway (with the spare room containing Griz's coat) or on the second floor.

Unless there was a secret passage somewhere. We never did check the men's restroom...
chaosblitz 4th Jun 2018, 10:18 PM edit delete reply
Oh! that reminds me, we still need to check out that safe! It probably has something important in it, so if there aren't any other major threats, lets either go get the safe or make some sort of meat-beast-thing to carry it to us (we are getting a LOT of mileage out of our meat golums this time around (...my computer doesn't think "golums" is a word. HOW is this not a word!? IT'S IN JEWISH FOLKLORE!))
skybirds15 5th Jun 2018, 12:58 AM edit delete reply
...it's spelled golem.
chaosblitz 5th Jun 2018, 11:24 AM edit delete reply
According to google, it can be spelled either way, but my spellcheck doesn't like "golem" either.
PurpleKetchup 5th Jun 2018, 3:09 PM edit delete reply
Google is useless because it stores everyone's typos and they end up challenging the correct spelling in its db. Use a dictionary instead.

Skullrama 4th Jun 2018, 9:12 PM edit delete reply
Awesome.

So, I know we really need to get out of here, but... do we have time to blood Knoxbeast in The Red (should be pretty damn easy to do in there) before Thale self destructs him? Then maybe we can see about making sure the environment is at least survivable for him.

This leaves the possibility of trying to change him back and save him at least open for discussion later.

EDIT: Actually, Thale's control likely doesn't reach int our Red... I would be surprised if it did. Stillllll...
Gigafreak 4th Jun 2018, 9:16 PM edit delete reply
That's right, Thale's range is limited! I had completely forgotten!

Blooding the Knox monster should be easy, then.
PurpleKetchup 5th Jun 2018, 12:19 AM edit delete reply
Seconding the attempt to heal Knox back to a more normal status.
He likely won't join, but that's fine. Purge the fake blood from him, ungrow all the nasty stuff and let him leave town.
But that's probably not for right now.
Leafia_Barrett 5th Jun 2018, 7:53 AM edit delete reply
Leafia_Barrett
We'd have to undo the full oversync that Thale performed on him, too. Even so, I am in full support of the idea of trying to save him.
Gigafreak 4th Jun 2018, 9:15 PM edit delete reply
Those blood-filled bone spikes that we used to cage the guards-- if Mine can continuously form them all around the Knox monster and repeatedly jab him to inject blood, we can force Thale into a losing rot-and-regenerate cycle. We do NOT want that thing living in the red, or else the chances of enemy shenanigans will steadily climb the longer it lives.
Liquid Bacon 4th Jun 2018, 9:53 PM edit delete reply
Thale has a distance limit, unlike Mine, so while Knox is in the Red Thale has no control over it. Since I doubt his limited range can reach into another dimention.
FlockPack 4th Jun 2018, 9:16 PM edit delete reply
FlockPack
I definately agree. I don't want Knox free to roam in the red. If he goes too far, we'll lose him. Or worse, Thale could check on him, and realize we have infinate material. If he does not know this yet, he will work harder to stop us.
winger 4th Jun 2018, 9:21 PM edit delete reply
don't forget thale's reach is limited and likely does not go in to "Mine's" red so knox could be just flooting there doing nothing
Istyatur 7th Jun 2018, 7:50 PM edit delete reply
Id prefer 'definitly because we killed all the thale on our end' to probably safe.
Mochi 4th Jun 2018, 9:32 PM edit delete reply

thale's reach didn't extend to another planet, i highly doubt it extends to infinite, eldritch, meat-filled pocket dimensions.

also, atmospheric conditions are subject to mine's whims, which means no oxygen, so he'd proooobably suffocate pretty quickly.

It worked! IT WORKED!

FUCK YOU, PADDY-WHACK!

But also we Super need to clarify that it wasn't hell that that thing was drawn to, but an alternate dimension, like folding the mass in on itself to an infinitesimal degree - We don't want anybody that's potentially listening to thing that we can actually open gates to hell.
Gigafreak 4th Jun 2018, 9:23 PM edit delete reply
I mean, Hope is kind of already convinced that Mine Ametsuchi is An Actual Devil With Devil Powers, so the odds are quite high that he already believed she COULD yank things to actual Hell.

Yes, it did not go to "hell" but rather to a different dimension.

Specifically being Mine's red is moot.

The red is not hell. It's an infinite meat dimension. It's a very important distinction.

So Thale knows we have a Red now.

Use the Red to pulverize the Knox monster, and leave.
Verde 4th Jun 2018, 11:46 PM edit delete reply
What reason have we to believe Thale even know what the red is?
skybirds15 5th Jun 2018, 12:33 AM edit delete reply
Presumably the fake-lasker blood has a sort of blood-memory (cause the blood is neurons for the aliens, remember) and also maybe the original Thale might have acquired some of that knowledge when he got the rest of it.
lil Joshu 5th Jun 2018, 1:16 AM edit delete reply
lil Joshu
@Verde,
Because he was the director of Z50. Before this point, we haven't demonstrated access to red. Now that we have, he's going to be scared - he thought he had us pegged as something less than him but greater than a mutant, and now he's realizing he's messing with something with resources that far surpass his. It's intimidation points on our end, but it does mean overpowering us isn't going to be his future methods (he kind of pulled out all the stops with the beast down below, thinking he could just overpower us.) So it was an appropriate time to overpower him with our abilities... but that said, we'll want to strike fast against Thale before he has time to re-formulate his plans in light of this new information.
Cyanic 4th Jun 2018, 9:56 PM edit delete reply
HAHA IT WORKED

Alright, It's just there now for a while, and Thale's control range shouldn't extend to other dimensions

BUT he still has another guard here, and, might still try something else, we gotta be ready.

Let's make another Lumpy and give him the BoneArmor+ spell, don't chant yet. Let's also check in on all our surveillance things. Grow eyes on every meat-thing we have in the church and look around, see if anything might still be amiss. Contact Jury too

If nothing's up, we get Griz and get out

Finding Thale et.AL in short order would be good. The place is full of blood under our control. Animate it and explore with haste like the water tentacle from "The Abyss" except use a bunch of them.

If the place is "clean" then clean up after ourselves.

Check on Jury's team.
DrBilly 4th Jun 2018, 10:04 PM edit delete reply
I think our best bet for this monster is to open a blood portal on Mars and dump him out there. Assuming that's safe, anyway.
Frission 4th Jun 2018, 10:04 PM edit delete reply
Frission
So yeah, let's make a pocket of air for Knox in there, do our best to keep him alive so we can try to save and fix him later. Highly important for everyone's mental well being, I believe, that we make the attempt at the very least to fix him. He was an alright guy in the past—I hate for this to be how it ends for him.

However, we've got an important thing on our immediate plate: Open Griz's meat cage, and get everyone out of there.
pkrankow 4th Jun 2018, 10:08 PM edit delete reply
pkrankow
Ok, saving him might be preferable to digesting him...maybe. I guess.
Twyll 4th Jun 2018, 10:11 PM edit delete reply
He wasn't necessarily an alright guy in the past-- I recall that, according to Caius, he actually *enjoyed* the morally questionable parts of his job far too much-- but I do think we ought to try to save him anyways. Even if it turns out we can't, it's still important to try.

If it turns out that he's oversynced, it could also be a very important learning experience, to see if we're capable of bringing people back from oversync. If we are, that could help us in working with Ms. Voclain and also allow us to rescue Thale's other victims of oversync, including his other secretaries. If we aren't, still valuable information to know, so we can properly consider anyone who is oversynced "already dead" and be able to make tactical decisions accordingly.

Also, we might get really good intel from Knox.

I propose we keep Knox alive and safe in the Red until we've completed Incident F—I have a strong feeling that is going to make all the difference here.
Skullrama 4th Jun 2018, 10:37 PM edit delete reply
The debate in the discord over this has been really something. I also vote for blooding Knox and keeping him alive in an air bubble for now.
Twyll 4th Jun 2018, 11:09 PM edit delete reply
Debate has concluded; we decided "blood Knox and attempt to save him, while recognizing that doing so is very probably impossible, if only for what we can learn in the attempt."
Skullrama 4th Jun 2018, 11:49 PM edit delete reply
Did we even consider that the Knoxtrosity might attempt to kill itself? An oversynched Thale brain probably doesn't WANT us to learn its secrets. Gonna need to give some pretty strict 'no self harm' commands after blooding.
Guest 4th Jun 2018, 11:50 PM edit delete reply

Debate over in discord? I must have missed discord was a thing for bloodismine. Is the big M responding to suggestions over there, or is it just a spot in discord for people to hash out ideas before posting them up over here?
Twyll 5th Jun 2018, 12:47 PM edit delete reply
Yes, there's a link over on the left side of the page! MM doesn't take suggestions from there-- only from the comments here. It's just a place for discussing stuff, hashing out ideas, sharing fanart and talking about random other stuff.

I kind of want to just dump Knox into bunker x. But only after flushing thale out.
Crestlinger 4th Jun 2018, 11:01 PM edit delete reply
Guess the school of hard Knox left him seeing red.
For Cleanup:
-dissolve all boned evidence, quickly
-secure Grizwald and knock out any remaining hostiles (blood and drug or percussion)
-loot the safe
-leave the carpenter foil up, act as though he helped out with intelligence, armaments, etc. when meeting with Jury in case any listening devices/spies are still present
-explore the rest of the church carefully and recommend Jury get a proper team in here to sweep all the tunnels below
Baron11704 4th Jun 2018, 11:11 PM edit delete reply
Let's just purge Knox of blood in the red and replace it with ours, remove him from Thale, and then see if it's even remotely possible to bring him baco
Skullrama 4th Jun 2018, 11:39 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, general next steps:

Get the hell out with Griz.

Once far enough away, disolve allll our blood meat and bone stuff.

Take Griz somewhere safe and secluded that is NOT our bunker. Check for tracers, and offer our blood. No taking him to our bunker without blood or a blindfold at least.

I'd like to arrange giving Hope to Jury. Connecting that monster under his church to him should be easy thanks to the access door that leads from the church to the tunnels (automated doors don't "just happen"). If he breaks down and admits the monster belongs to Thale, Jury will finally have a way to get the Feds on Thale's case. THAT will hopefully free up a day for us to do Incident F and start-up the Ilworth power plant and all the other things we really need to set in motion.

Buuuuuut I may be getting ahead of myself. This victory was nice and all but we're still thick in enemy territory. Whatever arrangements need to be made to get Hope and Grizwald to safety make them. Otherwise let's not waste another moment and get to the hummer and get out of here.
Also give Grizwald our tinfoil hat whenever that's convenient. It'd also be nice if he could join us for victory dinner (with plenty of booze).
skybirds15 5th Jun 2018, 12:26 AM edit delete reply
Can... can we get Knox back out of there? Like, Knox-Knox, not the monster. Probably not, but maybe worth a try? He probably knows stuff if he's been guarding Thale.

Also, yeah, free the Griz, tell Jury situation is handled (but, ah, maybe don't come up here theres lots of inexplicable meat walls) and we've captured Hope, who has some explaining to do about certain tunnels and monsters in those tunnels and kidnappings and the like. Also Fatty has a hand wound cause he tried to shoot us and also the guards we killed were in self-defense (true) and the old guy is probably dead of a heart attack somewhere.
skybirds15 5th Jun 2018, 12:30 AM edit delete reply
Heh, the egg's still there. Guess we didn't use that one.

Also: We could make like really legit bone shackles for Hope while he's in there, then we can let him out.

That was epic!
Am I the only one who thinks we should blood Hope.
I think that might be the only way to make him stop rage against us.
At the very least, it would stop Thale from exploding him or something, when the Feds get him.
*sidenote*
When we were in the red, time went much slower in there than in the normal world.. we can probably let Knox stay in the Red a while, without him being too affected.
Also, if we can make him human-ish again, he will probably be fairly cooperative when we let him out.
Tobias23 5th Jun 2018, 4:07 AM edit delete reply
Holy hell, that was awesome!

But, to move this along: Thale might still be in the building, in one form or another. Therefore, I think we should:
-Make the red, for now, habitable for Knox, we can try and save him later
-Check the building with more meatwall-eyes or bugs for Thale
-Stealthily attach an egg of blood to Gargan
-Get Grizwald out under appropriate cover
-Check the Hummer again / check with the Finch about developments outside of the church
-Get out, get away, check Griz for tracers
-Dissolve all meatwalls back into the red

And since someone mentioned the safe: Let's not go up and get it. If we want the contents, let's just fly a bug over when we're on the road and drop that sucker into the red. We can open it on Mars.

Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but we could use our blood/materials on Knox to try to pinpoint him within the red, and...maybe drop him into space via the Mars bunker?

Despite what we know of his range, I don't want anything of Thale's near our red for longer than it needs to be.
Ablaze 5th Jun 2018, 6:53 AM edit delete reply
If we could turn knox back into a human and remove thale's influence and then dump him out of the red, that would be an epic way of countering the "monster of hell" line hope is spewing.

I'm all for fixing knox, but let's just blood him for now and do the real fixing when we're somewhere Thayle can't reach.

We should blood Hope. Just make cage form a needle and pump him full of blood. He's a capital-A Asshole but he's also a public figure. We could make him speak out against Thayle, or, if that seems questionable, get information from him. No sense in letting Thayle keep his lackey.

We should also see if we can open that safe. Or perhaps we could just send lumpy to go get it.
T41 5th Jun 2018, 10:03 AM edit delete reply

Blue_Elite 5th Jun 2018, 10:28 AM edit delete reply

Since he can't say the name of his "angel" it's a safe bet he is queened.

Macland also couldn't say Thale's name (more specifically wouldn't but that was early on and Thale has probably up'd his threats to his cohorts about speaking his name since then). Also Hope is not displaying signs of Thale's oversync. If anything, his feverish devotion is a sign he's not Queened.
PurpleKetchup 5th Jun 2018, 3:14 PM edit delete reply
Depends, really. Red Prophet was not oversynced, but clearly queened, and he had his own way to express his extreme devotion.
When Thale finds a particularly charismatic person he can use, he tends not to oversync them to keep them as useful as possible.
