You decide to focus on prepping to rescue Grizwald. The ghosts can wait a little longer.

Dr. Finch begins taking a closer look at the corpse of the acid spider, the length of bulletproof bone, and the laser eye implant.

Michelle, Caius, and Fuse start working on the bone armor ritual--specifically, practicing drawing the symbols out, and reciting the lines.

"We gotta put the symbol somewhere folks can't see it," Michelle suggests. "We don't wanna freak Jury out."

"Oh, yeah," Fuse comments. "Just seeing an arcane circle might activate her weird secret government mode."

"Right," Michelle replies. "So... keep this stuff under your clothes, and if ya gotta do any magic words, say 'em quiet."

"--An' hope Jury ain't got like, super hearin'," Caius adds.

While the others work on all that, you focus on crafting weapons out of dense bone--maces, spears, knives. You also try to practice pulling blood directly from the red into your veins--not just opening a portal and withdrawing it manually, which would be hard to focus on in the heat of battle... but making it straight from your body. You've hesitated in the past using this method, after what happened when you healed your shoulder--but this is a very small production, and you're more confident in your ability to fix something if you mess up. Being able to replenish your own blood supply on a whim would make you substantially more effective.

You also start working on bone fragment bombs. You figure it out easily enough, actually--it just requires you to activate it manually.

Lastly, you have the raven and the rat you sent to Hope's church begin to scout the place out. The raven spies windows upstairs, but none downstairs. There appears to be only one entrance to the massive church--at least, only one exterior door. A way into and out of Thale's tunnels isn't unlikely, and there's a couple of vent entrances.

As you send your rat toward one of the vents, though, something stops you: the smell of dead rats. It's faint, the rodents having been cleaned out recently... but it's very much present. Something in the vent has killed other vermin that crawled into it.

You recall that Lydia and Fuse infiltrated the church through the ventilation system once before. Hope may have added security measures to keep that from happening again.

Practice pulling things INTO your Red, and try to find a way into the church for it's drainage system.
And after that, try to make the markings of the ritual of bone armor in a body, maybe simply altering the shape of the skin, or marking it in the bones smaller enough to be safe.

yes! I suggested pulling things into the red on the previous comic, but I don't think anyone noticed...
ReikoLupus 13th May 2018, 10:15 PM edit delete reply
I noticed XD.
I'm bringing it back because it sounded like a really good idea, with a sheer amount of potential.

Trying to make the marks within everyone's bodies sounds like a good idea. But it may alter the result. Maybe once we understand the ritual better?

We could try to protect the rat from whatever is harming it in the same way we help out everyone else..

To further the secrecy bit, play dumb and say the trigger phrase always in a state of disbelief like 'You mean to tell me if I say fortis femoris I'll get-' *Shoom 'Well holy crap it worked.'
As for placement, henna on the hip.

Ooo crazy idea. Put the bone armor symbol on an animal and see if you can activate it. Willard has a new assignment!

Get Pierce and Liz in on this armor action. Pierce will want to reverse engineer the circle and spells, which will be good.

Chest or back or buttocks are usually covered by clothing. We want at the least semi-permanent ink that will not wash off even with soap and water. Henna is good, and if it needs removed we just force the pigments out like a forign substance, which we have done before.

The only issue with an armored rodent is the dead giveaway. We're still trying to keep our pet spies a secret, rather than give Thale more ideas. The use of such a tactic on a golem, sure... not the animals though.

Valid point indeed.

Can you use the blood to filter any poison that might breath in as is exploring the house?
pkrankow 13th May 2018, 10:06 PM edit delete reply
I am positive we can, but I don't think we have explored here. This is part of the bome armor spacesuit concept.

Actually, can we confirm that our friendly hobo still has the vial of our blood? We have some practice controlling things from the red now, more than just signals and remote senses. Even generating material is getting easier. If we can generate something practical WITHIN the vial, we can get information we might have otherwise missed. An eye need be no bigger than that of what an insect uses, and we're use to working with mice. Florescent chemicals would make the vial generate light for a short time (which is good, as over exposure creates more risks). Literally anything to detect whether or not the vial is actually with Grizwald would be more than pleasant.

Just some food for thought here... also, Fuse needs to start developing his abilities every bit as much as Jane. He's likely her only equal on this team.

Damn, WHY I hadn't thought about it before?
We can ask the Tradesmen for a way to strangthen the Powers of Fuse!
Imagine what he would be able to do if his Fire becomes 3-4 times stronger!!!
37212513 13th May 2018, 10:24 PM edit delete reply
He can already make it strong, but his fear keeps him from learning control. This is the kind of training he needs. A power boost on someone to scared to use the power he has is more dangerous than useless. It's a fear I'm quite familiar with.
ReikoLupus 13th May 2018, 10:28 PM edit delete reply
But we can simply ask of a way to make it's control easier. And even if he learns to control it, it'll still have a power cap. We can ask how to make it's power greater, and even if there is a way to make it more flexible.
Imagine Fuse covered in an armor of flames, letting out a sea of fire to our enemies XD.

EDIT: We are dealing with damn gods. Like a sage said some time a go: "We can do whatever we want". We simply need to ask the experts about how to take Fuse to these highs XD.

I see the line of thought and over all, I like it. But I see it like this: When a man comes to you asking for greater speed, do you show him how to improve his cardio or give him a bike? Both answers work, but the bike is a new cap with limits of its own. The cardio is a way to continue pushing the limit (thus raising the cap) and cannot be lost once received.

Like I said, both work, and if we can get both, SCORE! But I personally favor the cardio over the bike, if you get my meaning.
ReikoLupus 13th May 2018, 10:50 PM edit delete reply
Yep, I can understand it. It's a very good Point. But like you said, is better to get Both XD.
In the end, we are going to apply Incident F in Jane to expand the potential of her powers. We can do the same with Fuse. (But instead of Incident F, we must ask the Tradesmen about a version for Fuse XD)

Here's an idea from the edge of insanity. Fuse really like his visor, right? Offer up his visor, a vial of his blood, the best computer he's ever built personally (no traded or otherwise assisted tidbits), and a thumb-drive containing a secret he still won't tell his allies (something very personal). Maybe he's get a personalized artifact back. All four items offered would be essentially part of himself, so the trade up would have to match... right??

I third eyeballing Grizwalds blood vials.

Also... getting Fuse past his fears should be a high priority after we save Grizwald, as Fuse's non-fire power is time-shenanigans, and when raised to a high skill level, they're some of the most OP powers they are. Time Shenanigans are what separate McGyver from Dr. Who.

Absorb some of the bulletproof bone. If we're going to be making bone armor, might as well learn to make it bulletproof.

Can we send another rat to check for a way in from the tunnels? Discreetly, of course.

Try ants in the vents at the church? I don't mean blooded. Capture some ants, package them up and have Willard open and drop it in the vents. They should pick up on the death smell and go in looking for a meal. There's a few possibilities after this. Either the ants are too small for whatever is defending the vent and we can send more with blood, or the defense is indiscriminate like poison or gas and we'll have a better idea of what's going on. We could start with blooded ants, but I don't like sacrificing blooded entities if we can help it.
